A great time capsule,
By
This review is from: Toy Story/Toy Story 2 [Widescreen & Ultimate Toy Box] [3 Discs] (DVD)
I love Pixar and purchasing this set was to update my collection to DVDs rather than the newer Bluray Trilogy box set. The Toy Story movies, in my opinion, are just great. Good story, good acting, good animation, and a lot of heart. I just wanted to point out that this set of DVDs was made right after Toy Story 2 was released. And it may surprise Gen X (or Echo Boomers) crowd that this happened over a decade ago. So don't be surprised to hear in the extra features producers and directors comment on this 'new' technology of the DVD or tell you how to use your DVD remote. Many of the technological comments are dated, but that really gives this set a unique 'time capsule' charm. Seeing the animators work on their (to us) ancient and sluggish computers is quite amazing. After seeing the extra features, I'm surprised that Pixar was even able to create such a beautiful and well animated/acted movie using the technology that they had at the time. So, on one hand it is a great way to see how far Pixar has come. On the other hand, it is a bit 'long in the tooth' as some of the features are just text (including an early screenplay/storyline of Toy Story one) that go on and on, page by page. Which, I guess, was common in DVDs from the late 90s. I was able to snag this at a very low used price. I would not pay an incredible amount for this set. Just letting you know.

Received one bootleg dvd and one real one,
This review is from: Toy Story/Toy Story 2 (Widescreen/Full Screen) [2 Discs] (DVD)
I received this item today, and I must say that I am not impressed at all! First off, the copy of 'Toy Story' I received was nowhere near what I expected, it was much less. Just from the look of the disc I could tell that it was a knock-off, bootleg, however you wanna say it, version of the film. The disc artwork was blurry, unreal and was missing several pieces of info that you should regularly find on a DVD. In viewing this movie, Several things were wrong and showed that it was not an official Disney DVD, it did not show any previews or even a main menu, just went straight to the movie. It would have been fine if not for the fact that the lagging and skips made enjoyable viewing next to impossible. The copy of 'Toy Story 2' I had received was the quality I was expecting both movies to be, this one was an actual official DVD and included everything expected (good disc visuals, main menu, previews) and did not stop, skip or lag like the other one had.

Collector's Item,

This is definitely a collector's item. It is one of the extremely rare cases when a sequel is better than the original (which was a five star by itself)Not only do you get two excellent movies in one pack, but the bonus features rival the movies for entertainment value. The outtakes are hilarious, and the short film "Luxo Jnr" belies the fact that it was created way back in 1986. This should be rated 15 stars - 5 for each movie and 5 for the bonus features.

My entire family loves these movies. While we enjoyed the second movie more, both are a joy to watch again and again. We bought the DVD's to replace worn out VHS copies. The 3rd disk doesn't have much of interest, but then, how could they top the movies?

This is truely the funniest pixar movie. Monster Inc. is funny and finding nemo's ok......,but these movies beats those by a long shot. I havent really seen the special featurres, I havent really seen the dvd's, but when these movie come back in print, ill be the first one to get it. These movies better come back on the shelf,a world without toy story,is like a world without jennifer lopez and ben afflecks movie gigli,it's the best movie ever!!!!!!!(for you serious people, im being sarcastic). Pixar needs to put this back on the shelfs, pronto!!!

Real Toys,

This review is from: Toy Story/Toy Story 2 (Widescreen/Full Screen) [2 Discs] (DVD)
The first time I saw TS1 & 2 was on a bad taped version, so I bought the 2 disc DVD the second I got a DVD player (a couple years ago). And the 2 disc was worth the money. But even seeing them on a badly taped version I was absorbed into the story of these toys. As an only child, I was convinced my toys had a life when I left so watching these movies took me back to my childhood. As disturbing as Sid was, there's a lot of kids who enjoy destroying toys and for this reason he was a perfect 'real' villian for the toys. The best part of these films is that (with the exception of Woody and Buzz, or in TS2's case 'the Woody toy collection') all the toys are real toys. The idea of Toys living has been done before, but the fact that these were actual toys (from Mattle, Hasbro, FisherPrice, etc) really brought it to life (that and the introduction of 3D computer animation in feature length format). At times, I forgot it was animated. And even though Woody and Buzz only became real toys because of the movie, the two eras of toys they represent are very real as are the stories sorounding them (TS1 shinny new toy becomes boy's favorite, TS2 Classic old toy becomes collectors item). Also, the story itself got to the heart of what a buddy film is suppose to be. There's nothing else to say except that these movies are a must have.

This is a beautifully packaged collection! Get one while supplies last, it may prove as valuable as a vintage Woody doll. Pixar really came up with something wonderful in these two stories, both provide such engaging accounts of one's [longing] for toys of the past. My kids treasure these two movies and the dialog is witty enough to draw parents into the stories. Toy Story II builds on the former, introducing a wider range of characters and offering a light-hearted parable on the collection mania in America. One too many out of the frying pan and into the fire situations for my taste, but the action keeps kids enthralled throughout. Hanks and Allen lend great voice to the battling lead characters, and there are many other wonderful voices as well. The only drawback (and it is a mild one) is not mixing Pixar toys with real family members. I think that would have made the stories even more compelling.

My husband and I bought this DVD set for our little boy when he was only 2. We weren't sure if he would like it or not, but it's now one of his favorites! This is a great set for family night or even for a lazy Sunday afternoon. We never get tired of watching Buzz and Woody!

What good movies!,

Both TOY STORY films are so good, funny, great stories, unbelievable animation and Tom Hanks and Tim Allen really make Woddy and Buzz come to life! I don't think there's a person on Earth who doesn't like thesse movies. I remember back in '95 when the first one was in theaters; I saw it literally 5 or 6 times, and the same goes for the second one. Do not pass up this great DVD 2-pack of unforgettable Disney classics! Walt would be so proud!

Toy Story was great. As much for the adults as any kid watching. And Pixar did a great job w/the computer animation. Toy Story 2 was even better, though it seemed to have more adult pleasing scenes. Both DVDs are as good as the theatre experience. The movies get 5 stars each. The 3rd disk of technical stuff is interesting, but it didn't hold my attention as much as I thought/hoped it would - so I give that a 3 star rating. I averaged out to overall 4 stars. I would have been just as happy with the two-pack, but the three-pack looks good in the DVD collection. Safe yourself a little $$$ and and get the two pack unless you're into the technical pieces. |
