Sick to my stomache,
By
This review is from: (MIA): The Complete Anthology (Audio CD)
My coworker walked in while i was playing this disc, and he said it made him sick to his stomache listening to it. rad sh*t man...hehe...in all seriousness this is a great disc, if your a fan of the old school cali punk style, raw, simple, and f**kin hardcore youll like this disc. His vocals are so raw and sometimes sickening it actually soundsl ike hes throwing up sometimes. only negative to the disc is they have a few on here that are lower quality recordings of tracks, but if that doesnt bother you then i say buy it, my fav tracks are communist eys, what we do is secret, we must bleed, and lexicon devil.

Darby Crash was indeed insane and his rock and roll lifestyle did eventually cost him his life, however before he croaked me managed to release some very respectable punk rock, the most evidently great release was M.I.A. The songs are fast and catchy and sang with a snotty, desperate scream. Songs like We Must Bleed stick inside of my head and refuse to get out. Overall this is a very good punk rock release that paved the way for many more bands. I stronly recommend this record to anyone who is a fan of punk or any hard rock type music.

Best Band Ever,

The Germs are the best punk band ever. I bought this cd a week ago and have listened to it about 20 times now. It is very addictive. The lyrics are amazing and they have one of the best guitarists ever, Pat Smear. Darby Crash is a great vocalist. If you like old punk bands, such as Black Flag, you'll love the Germs.

Yeah, but they don't deserve the rabid, salivating cult,

This review is from: (MIA): The Complete Anthology (Audio CD)
The Germs' effect on the development of California punk is indisputable, but I just don't know what all their desciples are on about. Same thing with Minor Threat and 7 Seconds. All of these bands have wonderful classics (for Minor Threat it's "Salad Days" and "We're Just a Minor Threat," for 7 Seconds, it's "Walk Together Rock Together" and "99 Red Balloons," for the Germs it's the various versions of "Lexicon Devil" and "Forming") but so do a lot of bands. I don't understand why people treat them like gods. Sorry, Germ-o-philes, I don't mean to sound ignorant, but a lotta this stuff sounds alike. Oh yeah; has anyone thought that they might've called this "M.I.A." 'cuz the Germs' alias and first album were called "G.I." and Darby Crash is one G.I. who's M.I.A., like Missing In Action? Did anybody get that or is it just me? Anybody? y'know what we need is a rabid, salivating cult following of the Zounds. Psychedelic anarcho-pacifist crusty punks don't get enough of that. Or a rabid, salivating cult following of the Rich Kids. Y'know, Glen Matlock's band after the Sex Pistols? Anybody? How 'bout D.I.? Or how 'bout for my own band, Organ Donor? Please? Anybody?

Living in Infamy,

This disc is a must have for anyone who wants to touch the reality of the LA punk scene as the 70's ended and the 80's began. I was coming of age in the Inland Empire during that time, and this was one of my life soundtracks. I hope the CD comes with lyric sheet (included in original vinyl album) because -yes- they are that good. My teenager was in awe when I pulled out this album and shared it with him. Don't let the next generation neglect these true roots. Let 'em listen to Iggy, too.

If there is something compelling about Los Angeles, and that's certainly up for debate, you might just find it here buried deep down inside this album. Darby Crash was a firehose of verbal torment, spewing out his words in an eruption. This cd will make you rethink all of your assumptions about rock music, and particularly punk. It still sounds primitive, fresh and full of life, like Mentos.

The First...,
This review is from: (MIA): The Complete Anthology (Audio CD)
This is a discography of L.A. punk band The Germs. It includes two of their early singles and the classic (GI) Germs Incognito L.P. along with some later recordings. The thing that makes the (GI) L.P. important is that it is the birth of american hardcore punk rock. Before The Germs (GI), there were no hardcore records (except for the Middle Class E.P.). Sure, The Germs are looked at as a punk band now, but if you listen to (GI) and you KNOW hardcore, you will be amazed by the originality of this band and their inventiveness at the time.
