Okay. It is clearly evident listening to "Forever" that Geri Halliwell was the POP behind the Spice Girls. Missing from here are the snappy, sassy, fun lyrics prominent in SPICE and SPICE WORLD. Their image has been toned down and sexed up (mistake). The Spice Girls were never sexy. They were campy and fun bordering on parody. The songs are r&b-lite at best and don't...

After Geri's departure in early 1998, the remaing four girls, Victoria, Melanie B., Melanie C., & Emma, were left, feeling devastated. They were supposed to have a bond where nothing will break them apart until it was time to leave the world with what they had. The four decided to continue on as a quartet, where in late November of 1998, they released a song entitled Goodbye. The song was released as a single. The single consisted of four tracks. The first two songs were studio recorded songs and the last two were live performances.

Two years after releasing their 1998 single, Victoria, Emma, Melanie B., & Melanie C. reunited to release their third album, Forever, their first album without Geri. The album pulled away from their original girl power sound and their sexy images. The girls took up a more mature look and grabbed a techno R&B sound.

HOLLER
The second single from the album. This is one of the best songs on this album. The video is nothing short of amazing.

TELL ME WHY
Not bad.

LET LOVE LEAD THE WAY
The first single from the album. This song was their second dedication to Geri, the first being "Goodbye". This is another beautiful song and the harmonies are unbelievable.

RIGHT BACK AT YA
Not bad.

GET DOWN WITH ME
This is my favorite song off the album. I love it's funky R&B sound.

WASTING MY TIME
Not bad.

WEEKEND LOVE
Okay.

TIME GOES BY
Another beautiful song. When read the title of the song, I thought it was another song about Geri, but when I read the lyrics, I found out I was I wrong. It's a love song and a beautiful one.

IF YOU WANNA HAVE SOME FUN
Not bad.

OXYGEN
Okay.

GOODBYE
From the single, Goodbye (1998). I thought it was a great gesture to put this song on the album. After all, there is another dedication on the album, so they put two and two together.

This album did very poorly on the charts, due to the fact the girls abandoned their girl power sound and image, and most importantly, because the whole group wasn't there. But, in my opinion, the album is not that bad, and I give the girls credit for trying to move on. Melanie C. has stated that they will not be getting back together. She has said that they've accomplished so much in their short time and all of their fans have grown up. They want to live in their fans memories as they were when they first started out with their first two albums. You girls did a great job and, even though us fans have grown up, the five of you will forever remain in our memories and hearts.

I hope that the spice girls comes back not just for a greatest hits cd. I think that if they promote there cds more then the will sell. Look at "Forever", Virgin records did not promote it as much as they did with other artists. Anyways, I will buy anything that they put out. I wish that a DVD with all there videos are included with there Greatest Hits. I hope that the 5 of them will look past there failing solo careers for a bigger cause. I look forward to seeing the spice girls again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Once trailblazers...now playing catch-up!, Mar 11 2004

The songs are r&b-lite at best and don't really pack the punch their previous hits did.

FOREVER came out 3 years (!) after SPICEWORLD. 3 years in the music industry nowadays is a long time-and in the POP world it might as well be 300! The Britneys, NSYNCs, Backstreet Boys, etc etc all moved in when the girls took their extended break. During which the girls grew up and their priorities shifted. They no longer possessed the young, in yer face, go for it, we've got nothing to lose, navite that comes with being 19-20. This is what made the Spice Girls the best POP group of the 90's. Here they seem to be playing catch up with the latest trend rather than trailblazing the way for others to follow.

Lead track and single Holler is good enough and features some great vocals from the girls (including Victoria!). Other stand out tracks are Get Down With Me and Tell Me Why that have a minimal demo-ish feel to them that somehow work very well. Smash hit Goodbye is on here too and ends the album (very fitting). However then you have the Backstreet Boys-ish "Right Back At Ya" filled with forced lyrics and just bad production. The Will Smith (!!!!!) sounding If You Wanna Have Some Fun. Another major drawback to this album is the fact that there are far too many ballads. Four in total. Whereas other pop groups usually have about 15 tracks with 10 being ballads, the Spice Girls usually kept their ballads at a strict minimum and the girl power vibe front and centre. SPICE had 2 Become 1. SPICE WORLD had Viva Forever and Too Much (sorta ballad). True these were great songs however the Spice Girls were a party group. Not a weepy, melencholy, take me seriously one.

The fun of the two albums is missing. You can just imagine and almost hear the laughter and girl-camraderie in the first two albums. Here you get a sense that the girls stopped by during their busy schedules to record their own vocals and then just left. In fact Melanie C did record her vocals for many songs while she was on her solo tour and then just mailed them in!

This album was made as a "let's see if we still got it" gesture. Holler did indeed hit #1 however the album reached "only" #2 losing out to Irish boyband Westlife. The girls then lost interest and began to concentrate on their solo careers. No more singles were released.

A shame the girls didn't go out with a "bang" but rather just faded out. They will always be the best pop group of the 90's and have firmly placed themselves in music history.

FOREVER is not the Spice Girls to remember. But still, it's okay as background music at a party or while your doing housework.

This is a great album but it didn't sell. I think it's because they changed their style from pop/rock to R&B. This album was produced by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and even though the songs sound like all his other productions by different artist, the album is great.

Last album from the former fab 5 (was fab 4 @ the time of the album release, then disbanded). There were some good songs on "FOREVER." Too bad the girls went under the radar. Someone else did a good job of describing the songs, so I won't waste anyone's time doing a recap. Instead, here are my favorites from the bunch:
1. LET LOVE LEAD THE WAY: beautiful ballad. I think it's one of their better ballads.
2. OXYGEN: another ballad, but really one of the best.
3. TELL ME WHY: Victoria sings (mostly) on this one. she does have a voice (although not a strong one). a song about trust and betrayal. really good listen. sounds like it's dedicated to geri.

Don't get me wrong - I really love listening to this album. But if you do get it and you have the previous Spice Girls CDs as well as solo CDs, I highly recommend you put them on random.

I was a little disappointed with the Spice Girls when I heard the single 'Holler' because it didn't sound like them. It sounded more into Melanie B's direction of rap and r&b. But I listened to the album anyways and found out that it's a highly underrated album. 'Let Love Lead The Way', the other single is such a beautiful ballad. Their FIRST single 'Goodbye' to Geri is also a tear jerker. Don't let the Spice Girls fool you, this is different from their other albums but it's still good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why didn't I get this earlier?, Mar 14 2004
Ce commentaire est de: Forever (Audio CD)
I was a massive Spice Girls fan, I had both Spice and Spiceworld, but when the girls released this CD, I didn't bother buying it. I don't know why - I liked Holler, and it seemed like a good album. I just wasn't interested in it.
3 years after it was released, I spotted it in my local used CD store for 10 dollars. It was cheap, so I decided to get it. I'm glad I'm did - it's excellent. In fact, I like it as much as Spice and Spiceworld. It shows that the girls did great songs without Geri. They matured, and capitalized on the RnB boom going on at the time.
Nearly every single track is class - bar one or two. Also a good fact is that the girls wrote nearly the whole album themselves. That's always good.
My rundown of the tracks:

1. Holler (4:15)
The only single released off this album - this is a corker. I bought the single. It is very funky, with Darkchild rapping on it, saying 'Spice Girls 2000'. All the girls shine, but Emma and Mel B sound the best. Great. 5/5
2. Tell Me Why (4:13)
This would have made a great single. It is extremely funky, and one of my favourites on the album. Victoria does an amazing job on this, I never liked her voice, but she sounds great on verse one. Mel B also sounds great, as does Emma. The chorus is very catchy, and I found myself singing it even after the album had finished. 5,000/5
3. Let Love Lead The Way (4:57)
When I heard this on the Holler single, I didn't like it. But for some reason, I now like it. I gave it a chance, and it's a lovely ballad. It's nice, but not epic (like 2 Become 1, Viva Forever or Too Much). Emma sounds sensational though. 4/5
4. Right Back At Ya (4:09)
Very funky! This shows the girls still had that famous girl power and weren't afraid to use it. All the girls sound great, and Emma warms your heart with the line 'There's been tears along the way, but we're still the best of friends'. Mel B's rap is hilarious. Very good. 5/5
5. Get Down With Me (3:45)
Sounding similiar to the last track, this is still in the upbeat RnB vein of the last few upbeat tracks. The shortest track on the album, this is catchy with a great hook. 5/5
6. Wasting My Time (4:13)
One of my least favourite tracks. This is very bland - Mel C sings most of the song, with Emma and Victoria adlibbing in the background. Mel B is missing from this song. The music is cool though, and the chorus is catchy. 3/5
7. Weekend Love (4:04)
I love this. It's very cheeky, but slow, about casual sex. Mel B's rap in the middle is quite bizarre, and out of place, but good for a laugh. Nice vocals from Emma, and a nice chorus. Another favourite. 5,000/5
8. Time Goes By (4:51)
My other least favourite. Ballads like this don't catch me. I've never liked this.
9. If You Wanna Have Some Fun (5:25)
MY FAVOURITE! This is soooo funky. It's a lot of people's favourite track, and I can see why. It's very old school Spice Girls, and that's a great thing. The intro is sooooooo amazing, I love it. This track is extremely long, but it doesn't get boring. This song is very cheeky, and all the girls sound great. 5,000,000/5
10. Oxygen (4:55)
Another favourite. This is very cool and chilled out - about being deeply in love with someone. Emma sounds stunning on this -her vocals shine, as does Mel B - her voice is very smooth and low on this. Mel C and Victoria also sound good. I love the ending of this. 5/5
11. Goodbye (4:35)
This was THIS close to being my favourite. I LOVE THIS!!!!!! Even though this was released close to 5 years ago, I still love it so much. It is the best Spice ballad EVER and one of my favourite songs from them. The song has a double meaning - it is about Geri, but also could be also a relationship. This gives me shivers, and all the girls do a fantastic song. Emma on the verses, Mel B on the bridges (she is amazing), Mel C on the hook and Victoria on the middle 8. Amazing. 5,000,000/5

My top 5 from the album:

1. If You Wanna Have Some Fun
2. Goodbye
3. Tell Me Why
4. Oxygen
5. Weekend Love

This album is a definite winner, and I think it may be my favourite Spice album out of all 3. The 4 member Spice Girls were great, they never got given a chance - neither did this album. If You Wanna Have Some Fun, Tell Me Why and Weekend Love would have made fantastic singles, that might have saved them. Buy this, it brings back memories.

1.0 out of 5 stars SPICE GILRS- "FOREVER" 2000, Mar 9 2004
Ce commentaire est de: Forever (Audio CD)
I'm pretty sure the Spice Girls only made this album just to go out on one final note. Geri (Ginger Spice) had already left the group, and Mel C (Sporty) never even showed up for recording, but rather recorded all of her parts in a separate studio.

"Forever" steps away from the care-free pop tunes that the girls had been giving us for 4 years by giving us R&B Pop. That's okay I guess, but it doesn't fit with their personalities. The only reason I even put "Holler" as a highlight was because it went to #1, but there really aren't any highlights. No need to get this album, it would be like getting a new album by the Who.

Highlights:
"Holler"

Heads up punks. Just like Vanilla Ice, the SPice Girls have gone hard core to the max. They ain't singin' no more 'bout being friends n lovas. Uh-uh kid, they be deep down in da hood wit a mix of anger, rhyme, and flava. DOn't be dissin' the Brits, cause they's gots da gits. They be up in there domes bustin' out a variety of angery songs to level the establishment. You gots ta jive with these honeys. Pure ghetto anger or hype. No cuz, they's not da type. Baby SPice is still the little innocent looking honey I'd like to knock boots with, but beware playa, she gots a knife behind her back, and she cuts. Peace, word out.
