FITNESS, not dance,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bellydance Fitness:Slim Down (VHS Tape)
I've seen a lot of reviews for this as if it is a dance instruction video - it is not. It is a fitness video. Just like it says on the box. With that said, it is a great workout video to get your heart rate up if done properly!

Fun but disappointing,
By Lady Murasaki (Washington, USA) - See all my reviews

I bought this video because of the rave videos I read on Amazon.com. So, I was expecting a lot. And I was disappointed. The workout itself was quite fun, the moves were interesting, and I liked the music used. However, I have issues with the voice-over instruction. First of all, the cuing was off and at many times it does not explain many of the moves (i.e. proper form). I'm used to instructors who explain the legwork as well as the arms so you don't have to keep your eyes peeled to the tv screen. Also, the voice-over made me feel like I was watching a performance. Veena and Neena are lovely women, but their smiles seemed to be those of performers, not women who are enjoying a workout. And while I felt like I was working my legs and arms, I didn't really feel like I was getting an cardio workout(and believe me, I put a lot of effort into it). This video is for the easygoing exerciser who wants to have low intensity fun.

THE BELLYDANCING SALON,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bellydance Fitness:Slim Down (VHS Tape)
This slim down video is great, for those who ever did Tae-Bo (we're talking about 10X more intense, yet fun) I work @ a Beauty salon and I told them about this tape. Since i lived down the street I gave them the option of me going to get it THEN. they agreed. I brought it popped into the VCR and men and women with plastic bags, nets, other beauticians couldn't resist merely watching it but insisted on getting up and chimmy. This is sold to at least 20 people. By the way there is not one day that i dont workout to this video and me and my co-workers already see a differance in me (and I"ve visited bellydancer instructors in chicago and none of them have a flabby stomach but more like the britney spears/ J.Lo type body)

Boring Introduction to a fabulous dance style,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bellydance Fitness:Slim Down (VHS Tape)
I have been wanting to learn belly dancing for a long time because I am enthralled by the culture of the from where it originated. However, I was incredibly disappointed in this tape. I don't understand the orgin for the postive reviews that it received. The off voice narrative for the moves is distracting, and makes the video seem incredibly low budget. I don't like the fact that there is not any communciation from the dancers aside from the cheesey smile. The narrator does not explain the moves well, and several moves look similar on the video. I don't understand why the production quality is so poor, since the tape does not come from the Middle East but was produced with US technology. The camera focuses on faces of the dancers many times when they are introducing new monves, which makes it difficult to tell exactly what they are doing with their hips or other body parts that are engaged in the movement. Also, having since enrolled in belly dancing classes, I notice now that the narator does not seem to use common terms for movements, which makes it difficult to recogenize what you have learned form the video when you move on to other teachers. Belly dancing music is so lively, but the musical choices used for this video were boring and forgettable. I don't understand why the twins chose such great musics to represent them on the "Bellydance Superstar" cd, but chose such boring music for this video. Worst of all, I didn't even feel that I received a decent work out from the video tape. Veena and Neena's tape made me afraid to purchase other belly dance instruction tapes on the market, becuase I feared that they would be at lest as bad, if not worse. I enrolled in courses with teachers after trying the horrible tape, and absolutely love belly dancing, but would never recommend that anyone use a Veena and Neena tape to explore this fabulous art form.

Slimming Down,

Veena and Neena makes this video sooo easy to follow along with. It is so enjoyable and gives me a very satisfied and refreshed feeling when done. I have lost weight and inches since working out with this vedeo. I've been using it for a couple of months (regularly). It has made it easier to progress on to more challenging videos. Belly dancing is fun and helps me become more flexable, probably because I've followed the gracefullness as it is done. I highly recommend it.

I'm the kind of person who cannot sit on an exercise bike and pedal endlessly toward the wall, or go out for a jog. This video is a fun workout. And the best part is, it gets HARDER the more you do it. I have no dance experience, but they break it down wonderfully.

Awesome Video!,

Ok, just got this video this past week, and have done the workout about 4 times now. It's really easy to follow, and it goes by so fast. I was actually sore after doing some of the moves, but I'm going to continue at it. I really look forward to my morning workouts now! I'm also looking into another of their videos.

Wow, Bellydancing is harder than I thought it would be! This video is fun and gets the heart rate up--and talk about isolating your hips and abs. I found it easy to go at my own pace--move fast/slow depending on the move. If you are not into repetition however, this video might not be for you.

I really enjoy this tape. I thought when I got it that it would be a piece of cake but it's not. These girls will have you sweating and it's fun. It's provided me with a new way of working out.

Dreamy Jeannie Aerobics,

This video is a hoot! Challenging, fun, high spirited, spirit warming and a good work out as well. I recommend this for those who are new to belly dance who want to learn basic movements in between in-person classes. "Bellydance Fitness for Beginners" is also good for those who desire variety in their workout routines at home. This video is a keeper that you will want to use repeatedly.
