5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and mystertious
I bought this CD on a whim in a used CD shop up in Berkeley, California, because I was am avid BOC fan. I have not regretted this purchase at all.

The complexity of their music along with the mysterious aura that they create is mindblowing. How can someone synthesize something so beautiful? I found it remarkable.

This music is very soothing after having a long, bad...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars a satisfying EP
Boards Of Canada have refined their sound from MHTRTC, but not their song structures and compositions. Once they establish their grooves and melodies in their tracks, nothing much happens. You may call it minimalism, but you can call it lazyness, too. This a pleasant EP, but it is far less rewarding then their previous full-lenght.

The complexity of their music along with the mysterious aura that they create is mindblowing. How can someone synthesize something so beautiful? I found it remarkable.

This music is very soothing after having a long, bad day, and you just need a rest. It is calming, and makes you think about past things. The beat is just enough to keep your pulse up, and it's quiet enough not to interrupt you while you think back. I found it great for driving at night, although I would not advise it if it's really late because my friend almost fell asleep listening to "Music Has the Right to Children" while driving home once.

Wonderfully done and fully worth the cost. It runs about 30 minutes and has very good tracks. I liked this better than "Geogaddi".

5.0 out of 5 stars Natural, July 9 2004

Well,I've become BOC fan back in Europe, and wandered
why some Scottish guys are so enchanted about Canada...
The destiny made its step and I ended up living in Canada.
I love to take bus and put my headphones on.
Certainly, the greatest enlightment was listening this album,
being amazed how can this digital-electronical-synthetic stuff
get harmonized with Canadian landscape...but it does.

Maybe its my imagination.
But listening this EP brings back the greatest feeling;
being at home, with the Nature,in the Nature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kid For Today, Jun 19 2004
By
This review is from: In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country (Audio CD)
Kid For Today is my favourite piece of music of all time, honestly. This track is not music, it is poetry, but without any lyrics(a voice sample appears, but nothing I could grasp of it). It is based on a simple pattern that alters three riffs on a synth and an ep, while the beat builds up(it is lead by a typing on a keyboard sample, I think). Subtle details and a constant background noise(it reminds me of a destant highway at night) make it pure magic.
The rest on this EP is not as good as Kid For Today - In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country stands out, and Amo Bishop Roden is also a good, although not very engaging track. Zoetrope is probably based on a mathematical pattern, because it repeats different arpeggios without developing at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, Feb 7 2004
By
This review is from: In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country (Audio CD)
This is simply one of the best albums ever made...I am not employing hyperbole, folks. I bought this album somewhat on a whim, and it is one of the best eight bucks any music lover can spend. "Amo Bishop Roden" is one of the most beautiful songs ever. It is one of those classic electronica ballads that barely, I mean BARELY, climaxes and drifts away into oblivion...perfect. This album isn't very similar to "Children" or "Geogaddi", or even "Twoism". Much more ambient. Buy this before the world ends.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is Good, But It's Not IDM So Quit it., Jan 29 2004
This review is from: In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country (Audio CD)
Especially you Xltronic nerds. This isn't IDM, they just happens to be Warp-signees. Now onto my review of this album: I'll keep it short. This ep is excellent in every way; great ambience and perfect sound samples. A beautiful release. If you like this and want more, sucks for you cuz these guys haven't made anything else worth hearing other than a few cuts off that Geogaddi lp.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sonic Genius, Jan 12 2004
This review is from: In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country (Audio CD)
If you like downtempo atmospherics, do yourself a favor and obtain this EP immediately. This is a very special album. All the way through, I can attest that it's a masterpiece. Short but sweet, listening to this album will effortlessly recenter you. Trust me. Check out the ESL label and Ulrich Schnauss-put him on your radar- he's wicked talented. See WES MONTGOMERY as well.

More mystifying, paranoia-inducing stuff from Boards of Canada that really should have been added to "Geogaddi" or the classic, "Music has the Right to Children." These four songs are all good, but nothing deserving of their own CD, unless BoC somehow forgot to include them on the aforementioned. That notwithstanding, it's great to hear anything new from these guys no matter what format it's in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Any more than 4 songs would ruin it., Oct 28 2003
This review is from: In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country (Audio CD)
What does "In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country" sound like? Well, thats just it, it sounds like a beautiful place out in the counrty. The beauty is there, definitely, and the pastoral atmosperic elements are represented. Listening the this album is on par with looking at pictures of open spaces. This album sounds mysty, it sounds windy, it sounds like the weather. Kid For Today reminds me of wind chimes blwoing in the wind. Zoetrope is the most 'beat' oriented song to be found, it has a fairly aggressive (but quiet) backbeat to it. I wouldn't complain at all about this being too short, I think BOC set out to create a certain sound to correllate with a certain emotion. They really want to invoke something in the listener. And they succeed.

this is a great single both melodic and dark. Few bands can create an atmospher quite like Boards of Canada. This single is not to be passed up by any true music fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best half-hour of your day..., April 20 2003
This review is from: In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country (Audio CD)
Right off the bat I could tell that I would love this little ep to the extreme. It's lush, gorgeous sounds and samples go with the flow like wine. These guys know some serious stuff about music!

If you've heard anything from them, I'm sure you know you can't go wrong spending money on this wonderful piece to add to your collection of good music.

P.S. There's only a few things from BOC that I still have to get, but I assure you, if you pick up anything from them you too will hear, these guys don't produce anything but scrumptious sounds.
...Peace.
