Take it with a grain of salt, Mai 29 2001
I found this movie rather so so. Some of the scenes were quite touching, but some of the events in the movie were just too improbable. The refs disallowed the first goal by the chimp because he was an ineligible player, why did they not disallow a later goal for the same reason? I thought the movie tastefully done on the whole, but too many little things rather spoiled the whole effect. How many households are in the habit of storing ceral under the kitchen sink? Just one of the many points where I had to sigh and shake my had. Still, not a total loss. I had the opportunity to see one of the chimps at a hockey game, and it is impressive how it could skate and shoot a puck. Some of the scenes are clearly borrowed from other films, and if one could ignore the more questionable points, still manage to derive some enjoyment from this work. Just be prepared to take certain things with a grain of salt.
