4.0 out of 5 stars Really gets you thinking
What if the end times is soon? This movie causes you to realize the truth about the rapture and with the exception of a few little flaws (such as the folded clothes), it's a great movie. If you think it leaves off with almost no ending, then you are right, but you are wrong. This movie is a part of a trilogy, and the story continues with Tribulation and Revelation...

It exploits the tragedies in the stock footage it uses, the acting is terrible, it inspires xenophobia, and contains several shameless plugs for Jack van Impe, a self-proclaimed Ph.d. Don't waste your time watching this movie, and certainly don't waste your money to buy it.

What if the end times is soon? This movie causes you to realize the truth about the rapture and with the exception of a few little flaws (such as the folded clothes), it's a great movie. If you think it leaves off with almost no ending, then you are right, but you are wrong. This movie is a part of a trilogy, and the story continues with Tribulation and Revelation. After seeing this movie, who could not believe in God? The antichrist (definitely worthy of a lower a), is so mean to people who don't believe in his false beliefs, but Jesus doesn't want to hurt anyone. Of course, if they don't believe in him, then they can't go to heaven to be with him eternally. Jesus is a loving God, but how could someone call the antichrist peaceful? He really doesn't want peace, but Jesus wants peace and loves everyone, even people who don't understand the truth. Read the whole Bible and especially the book of Revelation to find out more about what's ahead. If you believe now, then you can be saved from the Tribulation of the future. This movie is great and gives you an understanding of what lies ahead. Will the lost world be able to believe in Jesus? Watch the movie to find out!

5.0 out of 5 stars You Think you know..., May 5 2004
This review is from: Apocalypse (DVD)
I was really surprised at this movie. I didn't really suspect it to ammount to much considering it came out a year before Left Behind did. I liked it a lot. It was neat how half of the movie was filmed in the news studio, and that they could go all around the world, and show everything from mostly just one place. A very good idea to which the gorgeous Leigh Lewis is playing the star character.
It is the age of the newscaster era. Top Journalists Helen Hannah (Liegh Lewis) and Bronson Pearl (Richard Nester) are caught in the middle of something about to go off. World War III is erupting all over the face of the earth, in country's that were once allies. While Bronson is over in Israel, Live with the explosion footage, suddenly millions of people disappear all at once off the face of the earth. President Franco Macalousso claims he has taken these people away due to religious purposes, and that they will cause even more disaster on the earth even with the war. Helen finds this suspicious, and investigates, finding out that it is not the people that were taken, but it was the people who were left behind that are in danger. Soon, an associate of Macalousso, Len Parker, is taking over Helens newscaster building claiming he is now the CEO. It seems that he is stalking her with spies, and as she desperately tries to escape, she must remember, there is one more person to convince before she can escape the spiraling doom that the antichrist now has her trapped in.
I have noticed something about all the Rapture films. Almost all the starring woman of the films, Left Behind, A Thief In the Night, Apocalypse, all of these have blondes starring as the main characters. Maybe they should change to someone different, but these actresses still do the best. I still think Leigh Lewis is the best out of all of them. Keep up the good Raptures.

1.0 out of 5 stars Apocalypse?, Feb 24 2004

This review is from: Apocalypse - DVD (DVD)
I didn't care for the movie portrayal at all...I have seen many interpretations of the end times, all of which of necessity is interpretive, since only God knows what REALLY happens, but this seemed to be lacking in believability. Events happened, then stopped, or weren't accounted for, and so much was purported to happen in the space of several days, that it seemed more like science fiction than a portrayal of the rapture. I'm afraid I wouldn't recommend it, nor view any like it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather thought provoking., Sep 17 2003

The story line seemed to depict the biblical theme pretty well. I would rate the acting as so-so to okay. The music in the movie was good and very thought provoking. I feel it lacked enough special effects and the rapture scene seemed a bit unrealistic especially with the idea that the raptured people's clothes being "folded neatly" in a pile. I would expect if a person is raptured from their car - their shoes would not be neatly on the driver's seat on top of their clothes. Other than that it was quite enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Start to the Series!!!, July 19 2003

This review is from: Apocalypse - DVD (DVD)
This film was the first in the series of those to follow, where it tracks the Biblical prophecies of the "End Times," and in particular the Rapture and the immediately-following Tribulation period. In this first film we are introduced to Helen Hannah, played remarkably well by Leigh Lewis, and her co-anchor Bronson Pearl, played equally well by Richard Nester, and we watch with almost riveting accuracy, as the events foretold thousands of years ago unfold before our eyes.

Army after army descends into the valley of Armageddon in Central Israel, and then millions of people vanish, and it's a media event unlike any in history, with the entire world glued to their TV sets. At that very moment, a charismatic leader arises and performs a miracle of astounding dimensions, that the rest of the world believes he is the long-awaited Messiah.

Only Bronson Pearl and Helen Hannah, the co-anchors of World News Network (WNN), are in a position to uncover the truth, and as Helen begins to uncover the true identity of this great leader, she is torn between her love for Bronson and her new-found understanding about Christ and the Anti-christ. And with global forces in hot pursuit, there's only one chance to warn the world as it rushes headlong into the Apocalypse.

This was an interesting film, and the footage which it uses to show the "around the world" minute by minute breaking news was astounding and very relative to the world we all live in. There has yet to be installed, though, an intriguing piece of technology, which is super-screens, which sit on top of tall buildings in every city in the globe in order to broadcast the news. This was prominent in the movie, and it worked well when used by the Anti-Christ to address the world. It is highly possible that this technology is yet to be revealed, and the instant news and other events could be transmitted within seconds to every area of the world.

This is a great film, and an important introduction to the following three films of the same story. I'm just waiting for the next installment, and I hope it comes out soon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average, Mar 16 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Apocalypse (DVD)
This movie is the first of what is currently a four-part series about the rapture and ensuing tribulation that includes Apocalypse, Revelation, Tribulation, and Judgement. Each movie has gotten progressively better. Apocalypse is decent but has some problems with the scriptwriters simply not thinking. For example, even though the rapture is supposed to be a surprise, the main character's grandmother has time to write a going away note. Also, the antichrist is indwelled by the devil before the rapture occurs, despite the fact that Jesus said only God knows when the rapture will be.

I strongly suggest adding the whole series to your library - all four movies are very useful for witnessing to others.

1.0 out of 5 stars For goodness sake, DON'T BUY THIS FILM!!!, Aug 20 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Apocalypse (DVD)
"An instant classic!", screams the promo on the back of the box. Well, if you like unintentionally funny drama, this is one for all time.

This "film" bears all the hallmarks of an amateur promotional video for a firm of cowboy builders, and twenty times as many jokes, though none of them scripted.

Cobbled together from a skim-reading of the book of Revelation, this might just as easily have been lifted from the pages of Nostradamus. This is an amateurish production, boasting fifth-rate acting, shoddy scripting, home video-quality photography, and not-so-special special effects. There is also some bizarre product placement for, of all things, Jack Van Impe Ministries.

How on earth something so monumentally dreadful could have come from the same company that produced "Left Behind" simply beggars belief. As my friend so eloquently put it, "There aren't enough words in the English language to describe how bad this film is!".

Whoever greenlighted this one should have walked the plank.

P.s. It gets one star simply because you can't give a ZERO

3.0 out of 5 stars Clever story, acceptable acting, Nov 11 2002
By
TOMMY C ELLIS "Prison Rev." (Federal Way, WA United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Apocalypse - DVD (DVD)
Apocalypse targets conservative evangelical Christians as its audience, and offers a clever fictional account of how the end might be. Christian premillenialist end-times drama is generally semi-professional in quality, and it's audience is primarily the already-converted. Thus, compared to other similar productions, this one is somewhat above average.

The story line is the strength, here. There are clever lines, a fair level of suspense, and the dialogue is reasonably good. The acting is a bit forced, but not painfully so.

The placement of excerpts from several different televangelists' resulted in some negative commentary from some other reviewers. However, if one accepts the plausibility of this particular Christian interpretation of the end times, is it so hard to fathom that the warnings these ministers broadcast would be used to convert people during end times judgments?

Overall, Christians, and those open to Christian spirituality, will find the story thought-provoking, and at times suspenseful. A plus is that the sequels to this first in the series are better.
