5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie! Highly recommend!
I can't believe other reviewers are bashing this movie! It's been in my movie library for awhile now and I always watch it at least 6 times a year! It's very heartwarming and real! The acting is superb! If you love this movie like I do you would also like "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio" with Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson! Both are great movies!

versus
1.0 out of 5 stars Very cheap looking movie, terrible script & awful acting!
Kathy Bates is very vulgar in this movie and it's so poorly made that I was surprised to learn it was not made for the Hallmark Channel because they air this turkey about once a month.

Save your money for a real movie like Anaconda with the great Jon Voight or Prison Heat with Lori Jo Hendrix.

Also, no matter what the DVD package claims, the old man from the Karate...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Family Movie, May 1 2004

If you know what its like to be poor, or even if you empathise with the unfortunate, then you will surely love this movie. It brings tears to your eyes to see the middle-aged widow, played by Kathy Bates, struggle with her six children, to build a house, from nothing. I believe if you want to give your kids a shock of reality, then this movie is as real as you can get. Many families live like this in the third world. You come away with an appreciation of the true things in life: love, and family values.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best family movie you'll see, April 7 2004

Kathy Bates is one of Hollywood's greatest actresses and provides her outstanding preformance in this hard drama showing how she deals with six kids as she is a widower in Idaho recentily moved from Los Angeles and tries to make her kids forget the life they currently live in and think of the house they will live in the near future, with the help of the priest and other great supporting roles, this emotional family drama shows exactly what other families deal with and whats the outcome, they worked hard and live now in a better home. One of my favourite family movies of all time, Kathy Bates shines. 10/10.

I highly recommend this movie to everyone of all ages,it is a movie that makes you think. It goes to show you that you should be thankful for what you have in life and NOT what you don't have in life. The point being that money isn't everything! All that matters is you have the love and support of your family.

5.0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC FAMILY FLICK, Mar 3 2004

I love this movie! Kathy Bates is such a terrific actress, and this film really lets her show off! The movie should be viewed with family. It shows all you need to make it to your dream is hard work, determination, and the love of your family. The Lacey Tribe (Bates and her children) move across the states to find A home of their own, but really a new beginning. And they are dirt poor. One of the saddest moments in the movie is when they open their Christmas gifts, and receive a hammer, nails, everything for their home that their mother is determined to build for them. It really goes to show you that you shouldn't take everyday things for granted. Has a great story from start to finish. The ending is terrific as well. GET THE DVD! Its worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars not well known--too bad!, Feb 1 2004
By
This review is from: Home of Our Own (Widescreen) (DVD)
this movie is excellent. it makes me cry everytime i see it. it's too bad that more people have never heard of it. kathy bates is a wonderful actress, whom never seems like she's 'acting'. i recommend this movie to anybody. it's very heartfelt and contains struggles and situations that should make people happy for what they've got. life can be difficult with the competition that is in society and the amount of money that everything costs... i, for one, am more grateful and aware of what i am blessed with after seeing this movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie, Feb 1 2004
This review is from: Home of Our Own (Widescreen) (DVD)
I saw this in theaters when I was younger, and was never able to forget it. A Home of Our Own is one of the most touching and honest movies I have ever seen. The true story is about a family that is trying to make it after the father dies. I won't give away any more of the story, but the acting really elevates it, with Kathy Bates delivering an amazing performance.

This is an excellent movie. I highly recommend this movie to everyone of all ages. The point of this movie is not to take life for granted and be thankful for what you have in life. You can over come anything with the love and support of your family. Life isn't about money or what you have in life, but the love of your family.
