The record company just wanted to promote their new American idol, Rufus Wainwright (did I spell that correctly?) and that's why John Cale's version of "Hallelujah", which was in the movie, doesn't appear in the soundtrack. Maybe I missed the whole point of what a soundtrack is supposed to be, but I thought the music from the movie is supposed to be featured!

I loved the music from the movie but have not bought the soundtrack. ive been instead, doing my "homework" on the song hallelujah, which is done by john cale in the movie. i have listened to about three versions, including the one done by jeff buckley.....only none of the versions appear to have the same lyrics as the original done by leonard cohen. why is this??????

This is one of the best CDs I own. If you like music and lyrics, variety, songs that touch the heart and songs that are just plain fun, this CD is for you. I bought this CD after seeing the movie. I own several soundtracks, and the best ones are those that are filled with delightful surprises you don't remember from the movie. This is one of them. After two years of listening to it regularly, I just saw the movie again, and was actually a little disappointed at how little the songs are used in the movie. I used two of the songs on a compilation tape I made for my son when he was born ("You Belong to Me" and "Allstar") and will use two on a compilation tape for my wife on our anniversary ("It is You (I Have Loved)" and "I'm on My Way"). Some people complained about the different version of "Hallelujah". I have heard 4 versions of that great song, and the one on the CD is excellent. Much better than the one in the movie. You won't be disappointed!

Once you've seen the movie you know what an amayzing and original mix of fun, fantasy, and intelligence are involved in the makings of shrek. The soundtrack is equally playful and entertaining. With an upbeat, pop feel, you are carried through the exciting journey of the movie through the emphatic songs that compose the feeling and mood experienced in the movie. Its about as fun and enjoyable as any soundtrack out there, sure to please the kids and abults alike. Purely, whole-hearted fun for everyone.

I love music of all kinds from classical and foriegn to head banging death metal. The Shrek Soundtrack is wonderful. The beloved monster song has got to be my favorite. So simple a message. We listened to this Cd so many times over the months that my 10 year old ended up scratching it and i miss it so much i'm replacing it with another.

I've had this CD in the changer in my car for over a year now. I've switched out several other CDs over time, but this one keeps it's place. One of the main reasons I'm looking forward to the sequel movie is with the hopes that they produce another CD like this one! (of course I'm looking forward to the movie itself as well!)I don't understand the complaints of some other reviewers saying that this CD doesn't reflect the songs actually in the movie. Every song on this CD was in the movie (sometimes very briefly), the only possible exception is "Hallelujah" which appears in both the movie and the CD, but by different artists... I can only assume that there was some sort of contract problem that they encountered with the CD, and instead of just leaving it out all-together, they were able to sign a deal with another artist. There -is- another soundtrack available which has the "orchestral" music from the movie (of which only one track appears on "this" CD). So if you want the orchestral music, check out the other CD (but get this one as well!)

This Was A Very Good CD. Shrek Was A Very Funny Movie. and It's Soundtrack Is Great. Heres How A Rate The Songs.Stay Home/Self 5/5: Very Fun and Cool Song. I'm A Believer/Smashmouth 5/5: A great cover that everyone likes. Like Wow/Leslie Carter 1/5: HORRIBLE! I'm not really a generic pop fan, but if you are you will probably like this song. It Is You (I Have Loved)/Dana Glover 2/5: BORING! Bet Years Of Our Lives/Baha Men 4/5: Usually I'm not a Baha Men fan, but this one passes for me. Bad Reputation/Halfcooked 5/5: Amazing Guitar! My Beloved Monster/EELS 5/5: Wierd, but cool at the same time. You Belong To Me/Jason Wade 3/5: Kinda Boring, but o.k. All Star/Smashmouth 5/5: Does anyone not like this song. Hallelujah/Rufus Wringwright 3/5: See 'You Belong To Me' I'm On My Way/The Proclaimers 5/5: I can't get enough of these guy's Scottish Accents! I'm A Believer/Eddie Murphy 5/5: Taken right off the movie itslef, Donkey's Version of I'm A Believer kicks butt! True Loves First Kiss 4/5: Interesting score piece, I'm not usually a fan of original score, but this was pretty cool. If you liked the movie, by the soundtrack! You won't be disapointed.

Sure Smashmouth's "I'm A Believer" is down with it, but mostly everything else is, "ehhh, weird". The Baha Men one is OK, I've heard Smashmouth's "All Star" in a couple other movies, and yeah.
