3.0 out of 5 stars You gotta start somewhere, Aug 29 2007

This review is from: 24: Season One (DVD)
In retrospect, this season of 24 is one of the weaker ones. It gets its due credit for being the first however. You can see how the show is still playing with some of the ideas that the writers had whirling around (the intro sequence even changes after a couple of episodes).

The story is a little over the top, but as later seasons of 24 prove...that's to be expected with this series. Characters come and go, there are surprise twists and turns, traitors/double agents etc. Anyone looking for a TV serial action-drama with the feel of a hollywood blockbuster should check out 24.

**If you're looking for a more realistic take on the spy/intelligence community check out the BBC series "MI-5" aka "Spooks" in the UK.**

5.0 out of 5 stars 24 hours to go..., Nov 7 2010

for a long time this has been one of my favourite shows. Incredibly paced, great acting and most important, believable characters. Each season of the show is 24 episodes highlighting a continuous 24 hour span in the life of CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit) agent Jack Bauer. Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is an emotional actor who wears his heart on his sleeve. Sure he may at times be over the top (during interrogations) but that is part of the fun in the series.

At the conclusion of each episode they usually leave you with a scenario that always makes you want to watch just one more episode...damn cliffhangers ;)

Kiefer is backed up by a great/memorable cast of characters that you'll find yourself more drawn into with each passing episode. Dennis Haysbert, Elisha Cuthbert, Carlos Bernard, Xander Berkeley to name a few. The first few seasons of 24 were something really special (before the show slowly went off rails). It easily ranks up there with Lost season 1 & 2 as some of the best hours to ever be seen on television

This show is just amazing. I started watching at the start of season 3. After about two episodes. I rushed out to buy the first season, and I wasn't disappointed. If you want to start watching 24 BUY THIS DVD FIRST. You won't regret it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many expendables, Mar 21 2005

This review is from: 24: Season One (DVD)
The writers just went overboard on the twists and turns of this series. Maybe it work its popularity mainly from viewers seeing a segment every other week. But it is dissapointing when you watch it continuously in its dvd format and the villains are thrown all over the place. For the writers to continually revealing traitors,is very annoying. The biggest boo boo is the last one revealed.

I was glued to my TV set from DVD #1 to DVD #6. Non-stop, interesting and riveting plot. The best drama series I have ever seen. Great cast too.

4.0 out of 5 stars dodgy filming, Jan 17 2005
This review is from: 24: Season One (DVD)
Great show, some questionable plots and twists. Am I the only one who noticed on at least 2 occasions film crew members accidently being in the shot? When Teri and Kim are waiting to be picked up by chopper next to the lake at Gains's compound watch the left of the screen and see the guy sitting next to the lake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific, July 6 2004

This review is from: 24: Season One (DVD)
This is TV at its finest. Bravo to Kiefer Sutherland for taking a chance on the "small screen". For him, federal agent Jack Bauer is the role of a lifetime. It's hard to imagine a better match between actor and character. Season One is outstanding. One of the best moments occurs in the first meeting between Bauer and Senator David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert). The two characters nearly come to blows over a misunderstanding of the situation. It's intense. Sutherland looked like he really wanted to deck Haysbert in that scene, that's how angry he appeared. Sit back, watch this program, avoid nitpicking, and find yourself shocked and awed. The storytellers in Hollywood hit the bullseye with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating! My Wife and I couldn't Stop Watching., July 2 2004

My Cousin brought this over and I must admit I wasn't in any hurry to watch it. It took me a week before I could muster up the courage to watch an episode. When I did, I was hooked. I watched 6 episodes of the 24 late at night and couldn't wait to find the time to watch the others.

My wife didn't really want to watch it either, but she finally gave it a chance. She was an instant addict as well!

The show is very well done. Instead of just one story about an antiterrorist agent, it has many that all interlink. It is packed with action and suspense that will keep you guessing till
the very end. If you want great entertainment, buy this DVD

5.0 out of 5 stars This series is great!, July 1 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: 24: Season One (DVD)
This series is the best series I have ever seen. It is total non-stop action with no rest. There was so many things going on at once. It's stressful. They made it perfect, 1 hour each and everything fit together. I was lost sometimes but when I kept on watching, I found out what that was. So if you miss someting and don't understand it, watch more and it will explain it. Getting the DVD is so much better that watching it on TV because if you want to watch the next one, you can pop the DVD right in and watch it. But on TV, you have to wait every time. I recommend buying the DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Plausible Than Season 2, Though Less Captivating., Jun 29 2004
By
This review is from: 24: Season One (DVD)
The "24" series, for those who don't know yet, is one of the best things to happen to television in years. That sounds cheesy, but it's true. I am a skeptic/critic, and while I may find flaws, both season one and two of "24" will not disappoint.

I watched the second season of "24" before I watched the first season. I enjoyed the second season but disliked the twist of the story about half way through. Season one gives the usual--suspense, drama, action--but I believe the story to be more plausible and cohesive than the second season. While season one is more cohesive, I do believe season 2 is more exciting, thrilling.

Overall recommendation: Highly recommended for lovers of action, adventure, spy, or thriller genres. The second requirement is a A LOT of time--at about 20 hours per season, one needs some serious time to watch these. A WARNING: "24" is very addicting.
