A fun and good-natured movie for all ages.,
This review is from: Stuart Little 2 (DVD)
This sequel to the 1999 original Stuart Little movie is every bit as good as that one and in some ways I would go as to say that it's even better. The legendary mouse Stuart Little goes on an another adventure when after returning to a normal life with his human family, The Littles, Stuart finds himself developing a crush on a canary but she is in danger of being imprisoned by a tyrant falcon who hates mice and the female bird has never gotten a chance to migrate south with the rest of her species. She and Stuart's worlds collide one day and they've sparked a romance but after she is kidnapped by the evil falcon, Stuart Little and his former feline rival and now somewhat friend Snowbell work together and set out to find and rescue her from the evil falcon before it's too late. This film is yet another good sequel in moviemaking that dodges the infamous sequel-slump and brilliantly continues the story from the first Stuart Little movie. The mix of live and computer animation is really excellent and even the canary and Stuart Little look almost realistic and perfectly blend in with the live footage. It may not be anything phenomenal but it is pure entertainment for those who just want plain fun without anything graphic nor beyond PG rated. It's not necessarily an essential movie but this is certainly worth renting or at least checking out.

Stuart Little 2" is a fun movie for kids,

I think "Stuart Little 2" is a better movie than its predecessor. The sequel has more humor, more effects, and is faster paced than the original. The effects in this film are stunning. Stuart Little has incredible detail in his movements and hair. The bird Margalo is also well animated. She moves just like a bird but still manages to have a cartoon kind of face. The falcon is pretty cool and evil looking, too. All in all, it's an amazing accomplishment by Sony Imageworks. The effects hold up particularly well on the small screen and the colors are bright and clear. The DVD presentation looks great. The voices in this film were well cast. Though I despise Melanie Griffith, her voice fit the bird well. She had just the right mix of innocence and street smarts. James Woods is excellent any time he plays the bad guy, and his voice fits the evil falcon well. And if you saw the original then you know Michael J. Fox fits the mouse's voice perfectly. However, the show stealer is Nathan Lane as Snowbell. Pretty much all of the characters are dull compared to this cat. He has some of the funniest one-liners of any film this summer and steals the show any time he's on screen. The music in "Stuart Little 2" is pretty good, too, and sounds great on a home theater system. You may find yourself tapping your toes to this soundtrack.

Engaging and fun, but not up to the mark set by the first Stuart Little movie. Not much level of plausibility, which was the case in the first movie, where you actually come to believe this little mouse is real. This movie takes on a video game aspect with plenty of action to keep kids enthralled to the very end. The animation team outdoes itself with the level of detail in their animation. Stuart's little eyes are so expressive and Margalo comes across as a winsome soulmate. The falcon steals the show, with James Woods adding a touch of humor to the "fierce creature," who creates quite a bit of tension in this movie. My little one (2-1/2) was a little worried about the fate of Stuart, but after multiple viewings feels assured as to the outcome. Now that the two movies come packaged together you might be better off buying the box set, if you don't already own the first movie.

In this day and age, it is very hard to find family films that are all joy and no terror. This is one of the rare additions to that genre. It's every bit as good, and maybe even better than the first Stuart Little film. Everything about the film is a delight, including the embellishments to the original E.B. White novel, Stuart Little. In the book, Stuart's mother drops her engagement ring down the drain, and her mouse-sized, mouse of a son drops down after it. In this film, the ring is lost in quite another way. Stuart dresses up in foul weather gear for a jaunt in last week's meat loaf and comes up short. The film emphasizes the importance of families, no matter how they are made, the enduring value of friendships, through thick and thin, and the power of positive thinking. Sappy? You bet. And we all loved every minute of it. --Alyssa A. Lappen

Delightful family fare,

Stuart Little is the middle Little, he also happens to be a very well-dressed mouse. In this sequal, Stuart is struggling to find friends and interests that suit his special situation. He finds a friend and adventure and the lessons learned are valuable for other little people (like kids, perhaps) who feel the world is structured for people larger than them.I'm in love with the look of this film; the colors and textures delight the eye. Nathan Lane is back as Snowbell, and he gives a perfect comic performance. The story draws you in and holds the attention of even the most fidgety toddler and the most jaded parent. The characters are sympathetic and likable. Unfortunately, these qualities are missing in too many movies meant for children. This is a rare case where the sequal is actually better than the original. If you liked Stuart Little, you will love Stuart Little 2. The film is rated PG but my three-year-old daughter did not find it too scary. It's themes of friendship, family and finding a place that fits make it a worthy addition to your family movie library.

I had low hopes for the first Stuart Little, and I thought it was a good movie. Then when I heard of a sequel I had high hopes for it but I was very dissapointed. I thought the story of the movie was an idea that was not thought about very much. There is a little action in this movie but most of the action in this movie people have already seen from the previews and trailers on TV. When this movie comes out I recomend keeping it away from your Rental Queue. Do not waste money to see it in the theatre, do not rent it when it comes out either. I was entirely below what I expected.

Wonderfully Charming Family Movie,

I'm always concerned regarding sequels, as most of us are. It seems like most sequels are quickly rushed out to take advantage of the success of the first movie, and all too often disappoints those of us that hope that THIS sequel might actually be good. Fear not, this sequel is as good, if not better in some respects, than the original.Stuart Little (Michael J. Fox, in a perfect voice-over role) has now settled into life with the Littles. One day Stuart "rescues" Margalo (Melanie Griffith, also excellently voiced), an orphaned and apparently injured canary. We soon discover that Margalo is working with a Falcon, menacingly voiced by James Woods, who can act just as mean in a voice-over as he can in person, to steal Mrs. Little's wedding ring, which has a huge diamond. Mrs. Little is played once again by Geena Davis, in a nearly patented innocent style perfect for a family movie. The movie accelerates faster and faster as we race to rescue Margalo, and incidentally, the wedding ring, in an adventure as harrowing as any in a family movie. The scene of Snowbell in a can at the edge of a skyscraper is intended to give those of us that care little for heights sweaty palms. The way in which Stuart saves the day at the end of the movie is charming and recalls the best of family movies from days gone by. This movie is a wonderful rarity. As a sequel, it at least matches the first movie. It maintains a wide-eyed innocence and charm while putting the main characters in harm's way that Stuart's "parents" are unable to prevent. Ultimately, the lesson is learned that not telling the truth and hiding things from your parents is wrong, but in this case the result was measured against the transgression, and while punishment is coming, the movie downplays that part to keep the happy ending aspects. I give this movie 5 stars as a charming family movie and recommend it highly for children of all ages...

George (Jonathan Lipnicki) falls out with Stuart (voiced by Michael J Fox) after Stuart takes an unexpected joyride in George's model airplane and ends up wrecking it. As a result George's annoyance at Stuart sees Stuart having to risk driving home from school alone. As Stuart says often in the movie, this just goes to prove every cloud has a silver lining as he ends up meeting a young bird named Margalo (voiced by Melanie Griffith) who crashes into his car while being stalked by the evil Falcon (voiced by James Woods).Stuart is thrilled to have found a new friend, especially one who is the same size as him; so whle she is injured Stuart takes her home and the Littles let her stay with them while she mends. But in fact it turns out Margalo is actually faking injury in order to aid Falcon in stealing from the Littles. But of course, their friendship prevails as always happens in G rated movies. STUART LITTLE 2 has effects which surpass its predecessor, and is an enjoyable family film. The Politically Correct will no doubt have problems with the "theft" angle in the story but really, these people don't seem to have any purpose in their lives unless they have something frivolous to moan about. Ignore them and just enjoy the movie. |
