5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
This would normally not be my favorite types of movie, but I loved it from beginning to end! The cast is great and the storyline is very well done! Loved Julianna Margulies in ER but she really proves to be an excellent actrice in this movie. Nice twist at the end! I would recommend this DVD to anyone that likes a good thriller with a lot of suspense.

2.0 out of 5 stars Eh...
This movie ain't too good. I watched it last night, expected what I got, but I was bored, so I watched it anyway. The story revolves around an evil spirit who tricks a group of people into boarding a ghost ship in which he is collecting souls to send to Hell. Great plot, huh? He has to reach the number of souls required, so I killing everyone originally on board the ship...

This movie ain't too good. I watched it last night, expected what I got, but I was bored, so I watched it anyway. The story revolves around an evil spirit who tricks a group of people into boarding a ghost ship in which he is collecting souls to send to Hell. Great plot, huh? He has to reach the number of souls required, so I killing everyone originally on board the ship (who are the ghosts now) wasn't enough, so he brings new people on for those ghosts, and himself, to kill. Yay!

This isn't really a scary movie. It's gory as all hell, so if you have a weak stomach, do avoid. You're gonna see a wire slashing through everyone (except the little girl, of course) on a dance floor (which wouldn't really happen, right?), a hook swinging down and going into the side of a woman's face, bodies chopped in half, some guy's head cut in half and slowly sliding off, etc. However, all these effects are pretty good, actually. If there's a reason to see this movie, it's definetly the effects, if you can stomach them.

Also, there's a little girl who was killed on the ship who is actually a good guy. She's so cute!

Loved the thrill of this movie! I must of watched it at least 4 times and would not hesitate to watch it again. Extraordinary cast and great storyline... but not for the whole family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ghost Chills & Thrills, Aug 26 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Ghost Ship (Full Screen) (DVD)
This movie is about a crew that searches for old boats, they try to fix them and see if there is any loot on board.

One night they are in a bar and a guy comes to the crew with a propsal about a huge "ghost ship" that he has seen in the ocean. The crew agrees to his deal and they set sail. Little do they know that when they board this ship the are boarding a haunted nightmare.

They ending is a shocker, so in a way it is kind of like a mystery/thriller.

A salvage crew is informed of a missing ship du jour that has turned up for grabs on the open sea. They go to retrieve the ship to find it is much larger than they planned on. And that aint all. The ship may have other occupants and a collector salvager of a different type.

I will not go into details as the fun is in being surprised at the twists, turns and spooky music. Needles to say it is a standard formula but well acted. Well maybe the dialog is a tad hokey but that is part of the fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ghost Ship review, Aug 10 2009
This review is from: Ghost Ship (Widescreen) (DVD)
I would be tempted by the title{Ghost Ship} as I am a fan of all things supernatural. I did google it, before I purchased, what turned out to be a great find. The graphics alone would have won me over. Lots of action coupled with great acting. I have added this movie to my collection and reccommend it to anyone who enjoys these kinds of movies.Put the kids to bed and enjoy!

(this review/comment is just my opinion)this movie bit the big one,and
i mean that in the worst possible way.it starts off really slow and
boring.then, they decide to give us a sequence containing buckets of
gore, with people dying horrible deaths.bad enough,but...the method in
which they are dispatched(pretty much all at the same time)a mass
killing if you will,is beyond the realm of plausibility even for a
movie.add to that, the lack of realism in the scene i.e poor makeup
effects, with really fake looking blood.what's next?well, back to being
slooooww and borrrring again and bad acting,in fact almost no effort
put forth.oh,and really bad dialogue to boot.things did not improve
from this point,so i quit watching before the end.i almost felt sorry
for the actors, but not quite.they at least picked up a paycheck
(hopefully not too large of one)from this mess, while the viewer merely
loses a good chunk of their life.Julianna Margulies (a talented
actress) is wasted in this movie, as is Gabrriel Byrne.summing up,we
start off with a real yawner,followed by a gore/crap fest.(ie bad
makeup effects, fake looking blood)next we have another yawn fest, with
cheese(The dialogue hehe)and,finally a clinic on bad acting.all this
for the price of admission or rental to one movie.very impressive.and
that's having only seen maybe half the movie.wow.for me,Ghost Ship is
less than 0/5

1.0 out of 5 stars A Serious Disappointment, Jun 18 2004

What do you get when you combine good production values, good special effects, but forget the story? This movie. Perhaps if you are a special effects addict or just have to see every bad movie that comes along, then you might enjoy this. This movie left me with nothing except a waste of my time. Just look at the number of used copies available and the low price they are asking. This should give you an indication that this is a movie you will never want to see again. If you want a much better movie, then check out 'Deep Rising'. And somebody had to be cruel by recommending 'Event Horizon' in addition to 'Ghost Ship'. Maybe they meant that it was to be avoided just like this one. -Bob

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid it, Jun 13 2004
This review is from: Ghost Ship (Widescreen) (DVD)
I was impressed by the trailer and I said to myself if Gabriel Byrne is in, must be alright. I was wrong. It's boring and the end/twist is dumb. They apparently spent much money making this crap. when you listen and wath the "making of" in the special features, it sounds like the guys really believe this movie will make it and will be a classic in the genre. Forget it. It's absurd and grotesque.
