Very funny, wonderfully done, good-hearted comedy,

While I don't usually go for modern, mainstream Hollywood comedy - it often feels too familiar and too obvious - this really worked for me.Funny and sweet, 'The 40 Year Old Virgin' film starts from a high concept premise, but adds heart and soul, along with a bunch of laugh-out-loud moments. The acting and writing, even in the small character roles, is excellent. A side note; I saw the 133 min unrated version and loved it, but many film savvy friends who have seen both actually feel the R-rated 117 minute version actually flows better, and keeps a better pace.

This movie is so funny. The title of the movie tells it all. Although not the most believable title for a movie, the movie itself is one of the funniest of the decade. I won't spoil the plot and tell you if he ever gets laid or not. But I will tell you that Steve Carell is hilarious in this movie. And it is one of those comedies that you will enjoy watching over and over again.

The movie itself is pretty funny. The 1080p transfer however could use some improvement. It looked like a 720p transfer they upscaled and added a ridiculous amount of sharpening to. Better than any DVD version of the movie, but still not very good. But I'm a harsh critic when it comes to this sort of stuff... the average consumer probably won't even notice.

Adult comedy,

This review is from: The 40-Year-Old Virgin (Unrated Widescreen Edition) (DVD)
This movie is surprisingly funny, and is easily one of my favourites. The comedy is nearly adolescent, but never juvenile, and is saved by a remarkably sophisticated charm. If you were an adolescent during the 1970s and/or 1980s, you'll absolutely appreciate much of the humour; however, I think if you are a younger person you might have trouble "getting" what is so funny about this movie. The performances by Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan are excellent (hilarious), and Jane Lynch (Best of Show, For Your Consideration) easily steals the scenes in the electronics shop where much of the movie takes place. If you liked "Ron Bergundy" Anchorman," you will like this movie. It is the sort of squirming comedy that makes you laugh and groan at the same time. I was prepared to dislike the film the first time I saw it, and was very surprised at how very funny it is.

This movie was very funny. Not suitable for kids, but hey it isn't disney. The nice thing is that there are surprises throughout, and the ending is not what you could ever expect.Well worthwhile to watch.

first off,i will say this movie is better than "Anchorman:the Legend ofRon Burgundy.i mention "Anchorman" Because it has a bit of a connection to "The 40 Year Old Virgin" in that the producer of "Anchorman"(Judd Apotow) is also the producer of "Virgin".i hated "Anchorman" saying in my review that "i would rather have my sinuses scraped".while i didn't hate "Virgin" as much as "Anchorman",i didn't think it was a good movie.there were some amusing moments, and there's a really hot chick in the movie.mostly though,i found it tedious, boring and non funny.there are many lame jokes in here and i don't mean that in any good way.this is one movie to avoid for the most part.i'll give it a 1.1/5 for the hot chick and nothing else.

This is one of those movies that show you all the good parts in the trailer.A 40 year old geek works in an electronic store where his co-workers, who for the last 2 years never noticed him, all of a sudden start giving him woman advice after they find out he is a virgin. Most of the movie is just talking and more talking. There is a happy ending, what a surprise but the whole movie was pretty boring. I can't even believe I watched the whole thing. |
