An Unrivaled Comedy To This Day,
By
This review is from: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)" (DVD)
I have seen just about every comedy ever released since 1955. In my opinion; "IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD" is an unrivaled classic to this day. It is this ICON by which all other comedy should be measured. This is an absolute gut buster that anyone of any age will find hillarious and enjoy. It's a great movie to show at a party or any get together. If you're suffering from depression, just watch this and you will no longer need Prozac! I now have it in VHS and DVD. I have to watch it at least once every three months just to keep my sanity.

Stanley Krammer brought almost a 1,000 actors for what would be the funniest movie I ever witnessed as a kid. I remember watching this film on television and I laughed so hard that it hurt my sides for days. It would be impossible to name all the actors that made this film a laugh riot, but kudos to Ethel Merman as the mediling mother-in-law to Milton Berle (Uncle Milty). Get ready to laugh you tail off!

This review is from: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)" (DVD)
It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is one of those films that is one-of-a-kind. It will always be. Let me start with a ensemble cast of comedians and talent that will never be seen again: Milton Berle, Mickey Rooney, Spencer Tracey, Ethel Merman, Cid Cesar, Jonathan Winters, Peter Falk, Norman Fell, Jerry Lewis, The Three Stooges, Buddy Hackett, Don Knotts, terry Thomas, Jack Benny and Carl Reiner to name a few. Isn't that amazing enough?Technically Stanley Kramer - who is more noted for his dramatic works really took a chance and mad this movie not knowing how it would all come together. The adventurous of everyday people being pulled from heir everyday lives in a chase for $350,000 is hysterical. This movie is a comedy galore. Everyone shines and everyone moves the story along and intertwines with each other. There are amazing stunts, matt photography and special effects that were done the hard way back then. THE DVD extras has a great documentary on the beginnings and production of the films. Most of the original stars can be seen talking about how much fun and craziness went on the set. There are also deleted and reedited scenes that didn't make the final print. Those are really interesting. This is a fantastic classic comedy film and if you have never seen it - buy this one sight unseen! It will make you laugh and wonder in amazement at how they did what they did without today's computers and technology! 7-30-02

"Joyously mad...",

This review is from: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)" (DVD)
Joyously mad and WAY over-the-top comedy extravaganza scores big time for it's endless parade of comedic cameos, including , Jerry Lewis, the Three Stooges, Jimmy Durante, and many more. The movie is certainly bloated, underwritten, and overlong, but it's still great fun, and with so many wonderful stars like Milton Berle, Spencer Tracy, Cid Ceasar, Ethel Murman, and Mickey Rooney, it's even more fun. Nice change of pace for Stanley Kramer and Spencer Tracy, who collaborated earlier on the courtroom drama Judgement at Nuremberg (!).

Best, Most Memorable Comedy Ever Made !!,

This review is from: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)" (DVD)
I originally saw the movie in '63. I was 8. Dad started my Birthday party with it. After the movie, Dad drove the route of the Santa Monica portion of the car chase(yes, there really was a "Big W").Just finished watching the movie on Turner TV. The narrator came on after the movie and said that THE ORIGINAL WAS 5 HOURS long(Just too much "good stuff"). The movie studio had it edited to the shortened current version of three hours. Back in '63 it was a terrific movie-In '04 it is still a terrific movie.

Best Comedy Film Ever,
By
This review is from: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)" (DVD)
"It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" is simply the best comedy film ever made. I have yet to come across any other movie which is as enjoyable and timeless. I have watched it when I was a kid and I have watched it with my kids - it was enjoyable then and as enjoyable for me and my kids now! It is a pity, it cannot be watched in theaters now as I have seen people stand up with joy and fall down rolling in laughter. From the first scene, until the last one - it is one big string of hilarious situations and action. Each comedian (there are dozens of famous ones) seems committed to the ultimate goal - the booty of 350Gs and relentlessly pursues it in the most natural way - greedily! It is to be watched to be experienced. Go - get one and watch with all your friends and loved ones!

Definitely enjoyed this movie. The negative reviews are very dumb. Comedy films of today are garbage compared to this classic. I guess many people can not laugh at a film unless it has something nasty in it or uses the f word in it's jokes.Everyone was great in this picture. I particularly liked the Englishman, he was a riot. Ethel Merman was great too. Really the whole cast is very funny - you will love this movie!

IT"S A FUNNY,FUNNY.FUNNY,FUNNY MOVIE,

watching MAD WORLD now is like walking through a conignment shop full of curious old things that were the hight of fashion then but are a little odd now. It's like a top of the line enormous Cadilac out of place today because it is too big and too classy.MAD WORLD was a big event when it was first released and I don't think any star studded comedy since has matched it for talent on either side of the camera. It's a big movie ( that's movie - not special effects convention ) the likes of which can never be made again because the world has junked clean humor and replaced movie stars with "Celebs". If you know anything about the stars of the past the list of names here will astound you. The best part is that they are all on top of their game at the same time in this film. They are a vanished breed : the incredibbly seasoned pro. There are no wasted words, no flat gags and no throw away scenes. Even the shots of the cars driving from point to point are spectacular. The plot concerns a group of motorists who witness an accident and stop to help. They learn from the crash victim that he was on the way to recoup a burried treasure of stolen loot. The race is on to be the first to locate the prize and assorted situations lead to comic results before the wild climax RAT RACE is based on the same idea if not an out and out remake so if you liked that movie you should try this one. Now . . . none of this will work for you if you are tunnel visioned on the present. This is from an era when studios did not offend audiences. This is a movie that was made to be seen not just by you but by you and your son or daughter. There are no winks - no nods. If you won't watch Citizen Kane because it's in black and white - see ya! If you don't like 2001/A Space Odyssey because "there aint no words" - leave now. Some people think old means dated but hear this - my son, age 9 at the time, saw this in my collection and asked if he could watch it. I said sure and he loved it. He puts it on by himself now and says" Want to watch it's a Mad Mad World?" I do.

One of the great comedies of all-time,
By
This review is from: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)" (DVD)
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is one of the great comedies of all-time that has a great cast full of comedians. Along a desert road, a car plows off the road into a canyon far below. Several cars stop to see if the man is all right. Right before the man dies, he tells them about $350,000 buried under a "big W" in the Santa Rosita State Park. This sends them on a mad dash south to Santa Rosita to get the money. Some go by planes, others by car, and even by bike. Along the way, they run into countless other greedy people who also want some of the money. This is a great movie that will have you laughing throughout. The excellent cast is perfectly cast as we watch their efforts to get the money. For anyone who has not seen it, I highly recommend this classic comedy. The cast for Mad, Mad World is a who's who list of comedians that are all great. Spencer Tracy plays Captain Culpepper, the police officer with alterior motives. The people making a break for the money include Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, Mickey Rooney, Jonathan Winters, Ethel Merman, Dick Shawn, Phil Silvers, Terry-Thomas, Edie Adams, and Dorothy Provine. There are also countless cameos throughout the movie including Jimmy Durante, Jerry Lewis, Jim Backus, Jack Benny, Buster Keaton, Don Knotts, the Three Stooges, and countless others. The DVD offers several theatrical trailers, an hour of extended scenes, a making of documentary called "Something a Little Less Serious," and the widescreen presentation. This is a can't miss comedy with plenty of laughs to go around. Check out It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World!

This review is from: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)" (DVD)
In the past 40 years this movie hasn't lost its humor. Although most of the characters perform their stereotypical roles, from Jack Benny to Phil Silvers, Terry Thomas to Jim Bacchus, they are very, very funny. When you're having a bad day, watch the movie, or when you feel like belly laughs, watch the movie. No untoward language or lurid scenes, it's loads of fun.
