Don't Do It,
By Manhattan Mom (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (Widescreen) (DVD)
Don't rent it, don't watch it, don't borrow it from the library, and most of all don't buy it. I can't think of any reason why this movie was made. Hopefully someone was able to make a mortgage payment, but that is the only upside I can hope for.I loved the original Croc Dundee. I thought it was witty, and warm, and a lot of fun. I thought the 2 leads had amazing chemistry. They have NO chemistry is this movie. NONE. They were barely in any scenes together, which is a shame. It's almost as if they are in two separate movies that intersect every now and then. THe story is so contrived- she has to help her Father out- they come to LA (no- I can't beleive they live in Walkabout Creek full time), she gets enmeshed in a story, Mick yet again saves her by getting to the route of the problem, blah, blah, blah. What happened to the strong female character from the first movie? What happened to laughs? I saw nothing cute, charming, or other in this movie.

A harmless light-hearted sequel,

Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles should have been a made for video sequel or television. It's not the terrible movie a lot of people say is though. It's cute, not really a bad movie, not great but nothing to really hate about it. Paul Hogan is fun and he has some good lines. The plot is bad and it's lacking the musical score that I loved from the original two films. The film needing a villain just wasn't necessary either. Paul Hogan has a lot of chram though. Watching this guy explaining the world of L.A. to his son or his big lug Croc hunting friend is just a delight. The film has a tv sit-com feel to it and it's sad that's the direction the series took after the first 2 enjoyable films. Don't get me wrong this film is still enjoyable in a light-weight sort of way but the first 2 are better. While the other 2 have some comedy mixed with adventure, this one is all comedy. That's not a bad thing though as Paul Hogan is funny and Mick Dundee is an amusing character. The Crocodile Dundee series may have ran out of steam long ago but you have to admit Mick Dundee would make a fun guy to hang-out with.

"Fun for the whole family!"How often to you see that quote when reading movie reviews these days. Unfortunately, not often enough. Well, I'm happy to say that "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles" *is* fun for the whole family, and if you don't agree with me, you must be a dirty old crocodile! Subaru Outback spokesperson Paul Hogan returns to the silver screen as Mick "Crocodile" Dundee - our favorite bloke from "down under" since Yahoo Serious. After seeing John Carpenter's "Escape from L.A.", I was hesitant to see another movie based in the city of angels. Carpenter's dark and violent vision of the not-so-distant-future left me with an uncomfortable chill. Although, that scene where Snake Pliskin surfs with Henry Fonda (or was that Peter?) was pretty sweet! "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles" doesn't need the "Hollywood special effects", "big budget" or "competent director" to succeed - it does just fine by itself. Filled with knee-slapping pratfalls, and crazy hijinks, don't be surprised if you wake up your neighbors with your boysterous laughs (assuming you live close to your neighbors). Paul Hogan and Linda Kosolowososswski are Hollywood's best on-screen (and OFF-screen!) couple since Keanu Reeves and Lori Petty in "Point Break". Their chemistry is simply priceless! "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles" will leave you with a wonderful feeling!

Utterly forgettable: what movie am I reviewing again?,

Hopefully, Crocodile Dundee In L.A. is not Paul Hogan's swan song for the Dundee series. Paul's previous films to this name are much more inspired in plot, montage, and acting. In this film, Hogan seems to be along for the ride, and for this I blame the direction and screenwriting which is listless and dull. Mind you, CD in LA is not a bad film by any means, nor is it memorable. But there is a sense that Hollywood is merely attempting to cash in on the Dundee character and not use Hogan as the charming, affible actor that he is.Alas, poor Paul Hogan, I knew him well, and miss him in this film. Was it to pay for Linda Kozlowski's plastic surgery, or has Paul Hogan truly lost his bearings in a foreign land? The setting of Los Angeles must have been a dream come true for the Studio execs who signed off on the funding for the film, and the Aussie actors seem to enjoy themselves well enough in the city of Angels. Yet, the jokes, and the humor in Southern California lifestyle is tired. Zzzzzz. Wait for the next film in the series. Hopefully ole' Lightning Jack will be back in his true form by then.

I actually liked this better than the first two films. I had to drag my daughter to the theatre to see this with me. Both of us ended up laughing so hard that our stomachs hurt the next day. Now we get to watch it on DVD. It seems to get funnier with each viewing. You might say that Paul Hogan has his own brand of sophisticated humor. Sophisticated may sound like an odd word to describe his Outback brand of slapstick but it really is! Crocodile Dundee is such a slick character that you don't know when you're really being put on or not. This film is great fun. There is never a dull moment. The secret here is that the plot does not take itself serious at all. There are scenes that are just plain dumb but they work so well. I think we are all getting tired of the fast paced slam bang rapid fire so-called sophisticated humor, that this film is a welcome return to go old fashioned homespun grassroots comedy. It even has a great score by Basil Poledouris. Highly recommended.

DVD excellent color and sharpness. Just viewed it recently and it was much better than I had expected. First 2 in the series were quite good also, meaning Crocidile Dundee joins a rare breed where all 3 of the triology films ended up excellent. For example BACK TO THE FUTURE managed that, however of course is not yet available on DVD, and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK(also no DVD) could have done it except for the subpar TEMPLE OF DOOM, the 2nd movie right before the amazing INDIANA JONES.The writing on DUNDEE L.A. was excellent with some very funny material. One minor flaw in light of its Family movie class, would be to have changed the unwed status of the couple to some kind of Aborigine/outback type hookup maybe with flashbacks to some kind of ceremony before the child was born and to have used that as the film's beginning marriage status - then they could ended it with traditional western marriage. That way it wouldn't look like the standard Hollywood shackup type situation so common in liberal Hollywoood scripts. Wish they could do 3 more films like this, this Mick Dundee is a great character.

One of Hollywoods more family friendly comedies but flawed,
This review is from: Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (Widescreen) (DVD)
The return of Crocodile Dundee for a third movie was greeted with a great deal of applause: hooray for a good old fashioned family friendly comedy. But is it?Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles features the return of Paul Hogan as Crocodile Dundee, once again starring in his humorous fish-out-of-the-water role. This time Dundee travels with his common-law-wife and son to Los Angeles, where he helps her uncover a smuggling ring. The action sequences and climax at the end all have their humour, but the real fun occurs throughout the movie, with Dundee the naïve Australian in the big American city. Most of the humour revolves around cultural differences and pokes fun at American culture and America's own holy grails: the fast food industry, the movie business. Some of the highlights that come to mind are a scene where Dundee chokes up the expressway while trying to rescue a skunk, the drive-through at Wendys, and the drive-by mugging which backfired. Added to the cultural jokes are slap stick humor typical of a comedy where the villains are treated to a variety of appropriate punishments. And the scenes of Australia (with a local aborigine using a mobile phone) are equally charming. All family friendly so far, although the amount of violence and the tense chase scene involving gun-toting thugs and hungry lions at the end would be frightening for youngsters. Somewhat more disturbing, however, are the oblique and more incidental aspects of the movie. There are several foul mouthed expressions, and around half a dozen instances of blasphemy. Is this really necessary? Apparently so. But that's not the worst of it. The movie is filled with sexual innuendoes, with numerous ogling of rear ends and comments like "nice butt", and scantily clad babes are abundant - there's a hardly a modestly dressed female to be seen. The abundant cleavage and short skirts and provocative comments does little to discourage lustful thoughts. And Mick & Sue's eventual marriage merely serves to make their earlier common-law relationship "official." But to top it off, there are several jokes about homosexuality, including a scene where Dundee and his companion enter a gay cross-dressing bar. Producers, it seems, are determined to include references to homosexuality, in order to make us desensitized to an immoral lifestyle. They are already succeeding, as evidenced in the fact that many speak of this movie as "family friendly all the way." Be warned that it's not "all the way" family friendly, because although this is a PG movie, by introducing your children to Crocodile Dundee you are introducing them to profanity and immorality in abundance. Even the fact that Dundee takes the law into his own hands by breaking and entering in order nab the villains does little to encourage respect for authority. Mick Dundee may a better hero than most of Hollywood's offerings, but even he lacks some of the old fashioned morals that America once had. The standards are indeed slipping. By society's standards, it is a relatively clean movie. But the standards of today are already so low, that even the cleanest of movies has a great deal of filth lurking underneath. The waters of Crocodile Dundee may have been declared clean by many, but beware that the crocodiles of immorality are lurking close at hand, ready to nibble away whatever morals your children may have left.

Old Crocodile Dundee heads out to California to help out his [wife] with her new job. In any case, he and his (kind of annoying) son struggle to adapt to modern-day appliances and what not; a sort of "fish out of barrel" expedition. About three-fourths the way through the movie, I finally asked aloud, "Does this movie have a climax?" It isn't until the last twenty minutes of the show that things start to speed up; but then it ends no sooner than the action started. Boring! Admittedly, this show's a pretty clean and decent, family-friendly show... but as far as plots and stories go: audiences of any magnitude need some kind of pace to keep us entertained! Dundee's getting too old for his own good, I'm afraid to say.
