5.0 out of 5 stars This album is the blueprint!
Jay-z is at the pinnacle with this record. It is the first rap record besides Kanye West that I have been able to FULLY connect with. I love this cd. 3.0 out of 5 stars A good album but NOT classic .
It's important to note why Many people think that this is jay-z's best album since his first because of the samples used throughout the album, the music isn't original and the beats and samples kill me, jay's lyrics seems rushed, "jigga that N888" "all I need" "hola hovito" all filler tracks with poppy hooks and are used for Cd space, On the...

5.0 out of 5 stars This album is the blueprint!, July 18 2004
This review is from: Blueprint (Audio CD)
Jay-z is at the pinnacle with this record. It is the first rap record besides Kanye West that I have been able to FULLY connect with. I love this cd. His lyrics are so catchy and so rememerable that after a couple of listens I was going wit Jay and the rhymes. The beats done by the beatmaster himself Kanye, are so hot and so soulful that they almost steal the album. My favorite songs are TAKEOVER, Jay takes shots at Nas and has piercing lyrics. IZZO, because he samples one of my fave groups the Jackson 5, and its just so damn catchy. GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS, is also so soulful and very funny and Jay describes many types of girls. I like it, because its catchy and cool and it doesnt objectify women. HEART OF THE CITY, I love it for the hook, but I have to say I didn't like this song until Jaguar Wright did it right on the Unplugged cd. VERY HOT go cop that if you ain't heard it. NEVER CHANGE is a testament to the hood life and to the streets. Its almost like the song is standing his ground, he will never change. Very easy to listen to. SONG CRY is my favorite songs on the cd and one of my faves of all time!!! THe song is so hard!! He makes the song cry cause he can't see them coming down his face. I love it, it is the hiphop power ballad! Renegade is another favorite of mine, mainly because its so powerful and Eminem (I hate to say it Jay) spits hot fire on this track. This cd is so captivating, from the beats, to the verses, to Eminem ( the only guet appearance). Thats another thing Jay basically held the cd down for himself as far as performing. How many rap cds out there have a different person on each track. It's hard to hold down the fort by yourself, but hey the king of new york did it...and did it well!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jay-Zs Best, Jun 15 2004
This review is from: Blueprint (Audio CD)
After Jay-Z's captivating debut 'Reasonable Doubt', he followed with a few lackluster projects. He and the producers remarkably span all facets of rap while creating a very cohesive album: from the single-friendly 'Izzo (H.O.V.A.)' and 'Girls, Girls Girls' to the emotional 'Song Cry' and 'Blueprint (Momma Loves Me)' to the bangers 'U Don't Know' and 'Hola' Hovito'. While some tracks are better than others, there are none that are intolerable. Jay-Z's callout to Nas for The Brooklyn crown 'Takeover' is one of the album's best. Eminem also makes a guest appearance (and produces) 'Renegade' (originally an Eminem song with Royce da 5'9") and probably brings the best two verses on the CD if not his entire career. Kanye West makes a name for himself, and rightfully so, with his production on 'Takeover', 'Heart of the City (Ain't No Love)', 'Never Change', and'Izzo (H.O.V.A.)', despite his mass sampling. Jay-Z never says anything too profound, but brings it on 'The Blueprint' with a nice flow and consistent lyrics. This is a must buy for any hip hop fan as one of the greatests' bests.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jay-Z at his best, July 2 2004
This review is from: Blueprint (Audio CD)
Everywhere I talked to people about Jay-Z, they told me Reasonable Doubt was his best cd. I disagree, I think The Blueprint is. His rhymes as always, are amazing, he could probably rhyme in his sleep. The production was awesome too, especially on songs like Jigga My Nigga and Hola' Hovito, and not to mention the Eminem assisted Renegade, which happens to be my favorite song on the cd. That's all I really have to say hopefully this review helps you.

Jay-z had a pretty respectable career by the fall of 2001. He had won a Grammy for Hard Knock Life, he'd sold multiple platinum albums, made his Roc-A-Wear clothing line successful and despite his ability to "bring the 'burbs to the hood" he maintained his street cred. Then out of nowhere came The Blueprint. This C.D. dropped and cemented Jay-z's spot in hip-hop history. By this time in his career Jay had long since dropped his rapid fire delivery and perfected his mid-pace but versatile flow.

The Blueprint is one of the few C.D.'s that I can listen to all the way through. There aren't any skits it's just fourteen (including the two bonus tracks) straight tracks. The production on the album is amazing. The now hugely popular Kanye West donated his soulful melodies to four of the songs. Even the radio-hits off of the Blueprint are still great tracks. "Izzo" and "Girls, girls, girls" could easily have been trite MTV-fodder but, instead they provide light-hearted intermissions to the serious tone of the rest of the L.P.

The only guest appearance other than the regular Roc-crew is that of Eminem. One of the best songs off the album Eminem and Jay-z destory a track that the great white hope himself produced. It is difficult to name my favorite song off of the album because this is one of the albums that is just best to listen to all the way through. But, that being said my favorite song off of The Blueprint is the Just Blaze produced track U Don't Know.

The Blueprint is one of my favorite C.D.'s of all-time and is the Illmatic of the new millenium; the album that defines a decade.

B-More pointed out this hidden track and also think it is tight. Is the "I'm not a one girl's guy..." intro and ending a soul sample or original? If is a sample, what song does it come from. B-More mentioned Chante Moore's name. If anyone knows, email me at techols@uga.edu.
