If you're an ELO fan then this is a must have. The tunes are classic and the production is very good. I was disappointed with the venue - seemed antiseptic and two cellists just don't provide enough string-based orchestral background to do those great ELO oldies justice. (Yes - where are the violins?) That's the sound that made them stand out! I have many concert DVD's and while this one is decent it's not nearly as good as say, Roger Waters: In the Flesh - Live, one of my very favorites. This is a 3 to 4 star DVD - good but not great.

This was a bland, boring concert. The review must be 20 words so I am stretching this review to be 20 words. Love the songs, but watching a re-created ELO line up fronted by Jeff Lynne was pretty dull. Well the Cello player was attractive as was Jeff's back up singer, so 2 stars for them.

A Classy Production,

I own maybe half a dozen rock DVDs and have seen a few more, and this one is the standout. I bought it four years ago but it is still the most often-played volume in my small collection. The sound mix is studio-quality and the DTS option makes the sound that much more crisp on my DTS-compatable player. The visuals are served pretty much straight-up, with lighting that I would describe as TV-studio, as no visual gimmickry is necessary due to the high quality of the songs and musicianship. The camera naturally dwells on Lynne a fair bit, being the lead singer, and it is too bad he couldn't lose his shades for this gig. The new "Zoom" songs that are included show that the band's songwriting ability is very much alive and well. If I was to quibble I would have liked to have seen "Waterfall" included here. Nevertheless, highly recommended for ELO fans, or anyone interested in 70's rock or British Invasion.

I have dozens of music DVDs and this one is number one - sound quality is superb, the video work has that smokey edge to it - WOW! Yes, DTS baby. Jeff gets the sound absolutely RIGHT! The only drag is that it is missing a couple of tracks. SURPRISE inside - a couple of Zoom tracks area actually really good. Wow, who would have thought such an old guy could write music that good. This DVD is the sleeper - just about everyone who I've played it for has bought it. If you loved ELO get it for sure! If you didn't love ELO, this will win you over.

ELO was my favorite band for most of my high school years (late 70s). I eventually left ELO behind as being an outdated dinosaur band. Then in the late 90's I picked up a few of their better albums (now on CD, of course) and rediscovered them. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of seeing the band live, but this DVD almost makes up for it. Although it's really more "The Jeff Lynne Show" than ELO (I certainly don't recall three hot woman being in the band back in the 70s!). The show was beautifully filmed in a small venue, Lynne's voice sounds as good as it ever did, and the songs.....well, if you're reading this I probably don't have to tell you about those magnificent songs. Instead, you're probably wondering whether or not you should bother spending the money on the DVD. The answer is YES! Both the sound and picture quality are excellent. And hearing Lynne sing "One Summer Dream" and "Telephone Line" again may just make you cry.

Well, like I said before, This is Jeff Lynne at his very best. And the band sounds fantastic. I have to admit, that I have it bad for Rosie Vela, she has never looked and sounded better. It only took me 5 DVD's to find one that played all the way to the end of the show...but it was well worth the trouble. I can't say enough about this show. Please Jeff, grab Rosie and the band and try it again, I bet you sell out every show. TWO THUMBS UP!!!

Well, I've had my eye on this dvd for ages and I finally got it! I've bought all their albums over the years and have become quite a fan! I wasn't sure what to expect because the Dvd was recorded in 2001, long after most of these songs were originally performed. Now, for the dvd. Richard Tandy and Jeff Lynne are the only original ELO members here. The other band members do a pretty good job, but I was expecting more! For one, where's the violin?? ELO songs don't sound the same without one!! Jeff's voice doesn't sound too bad for his age. His vocal range is no where near as good as it once was. In some songs he sounds rather FLAT! Overall, the dvd isn't too bad. They perform most of the popular ELO songs from the 70's and the Zoom album. I the overall performance is a bit lacking. They haven't gone to much effort to make the concert interesting. It doesn't have the atmosphere of other dvd's like Simply Red Live in London. There isn't enought ENERGY in this dvd. I personally get more out of listening to the original cd's! So, if you're choosing between ELO's Greatest Hits cd and this dvd, get the cd!! ELO sounded much, much better on their original albums than on this! |
