A great cd to add to your jazz selection. I really haven't heard this until I bought the cd on just for fun. I have to hit replay for all the tunes. Now I have to buy the new cd - can't wait.

All Would Envy,

Chris Botti might be one of the most overlooked"stars" of our time and this album is one of his best. The song "All Would Envy" strikes the heart and becomes addictive--so much truth in the words and the vocals are dazzling.

I am a big fan of jazz. I have listened to other jazz artists but this album, which I bought last week, is like no other I've heard so far. This is a must-have for any jazz lover. The songs are upbeat, wonderful, and relaxing. Keep up the great work, Chris.

This album was excellent. Botti's style is very controling. There is no hesitation from his trumpet. I would recommend this to anyone interested in listening to Jazz or has an interest in the trumpet.

I bought his first CD Slowing Down the World and instantly fell in love with him (actually his sound). Now this cd, Night Sessions, makes me praise him even more. His soulful and tender music makes you forget the world and everyone in it. You lose yourself in the enchanting melodies of this extremely talented young man. I compare him to people like Miles Davis, Herb Alpert and Rick Braun. Like Jim Brickman (who gives the piano so much personality), Chris makes the trumpet come alive. Chris Botti is in league with some great talent. There is not a specific song that stands out more than the rest. Even the songs with vocals sound beautiful. The entire cd is great. It is worth every penny. If you need to unwind; or have someone to snuggle up with; or just want to make your work time flow smoother-I highly recommend NIGHT SESSIONS by Chris Botti. Enjoy!

Chris Botti has a way of playing that conveys an extraordinary feeling of sensuality. One way to describe it is SULTRY.I cut my teeth on Miles Davis's trumpet and literally wore through my vinyl LP of "Kind of Blue" so I had to replace it twice. What I liked about Miles I love about Chris Botti -- an earthiness that transports you to another time and place. Though Chris plays the same instrument as Miles, I can tell you that Chris Botti on CD is better. You, dear listener, will be able to listen to this one hundreds of times. The way Chris sashays his muted trumpet over tunes like Lisa, Miami Overnight and Best Time -- the first, second and third tracks on this CD -- will be the same from the first to the thousandth time -- SASSY. And, dear listener, You Move Me, the eighth track on the CD will show you an ethereal, creative side of Chris -- worth the wait. The entire CD will have you toe tapping to shake the floor. Enjoy this one -- again and again. You, dear listener, can describe the rest of the tracks for yourself.

and they say jazz is dead...,

sometimes music just cant be analyzed, it must be felt...sometimes what we love about it cant be identified, it just is...and thats this album to me, i cant say one particular thing jumped out at me...its just cool...i like listening to the grooves as botti plays his muted trumpet solos, or plays a sweet melody line over his talented rhythm section...Botti has shown in his style of jazz, that jazz itself, as it always has, evolves and becomes not what people think of it, but how people feel...jazz is a music of emotion, not a definition...this doesnt sound like jazz of old, but jazz is everchanging, leading us in new directions, bringing us new sounds...and Botti is a master of the mellow-out groove, w/that brassy edge... this album is one of the best out there...the trumpet melodies and solos, the vocals by Shawn Colvin on "all would envy" and the upbeat rhythm section make for a great album...dont deny yourself this music

DISAPPOINTING,

There was a free-of-charge, one hour Chris Botti concert on one of the cable networks that a friend taped for me. Informally produced with interesting, talented guests like Sting performing, obviously interested in furthering the younger man's career.Botti came across as a charming guy who really played trumpet well. Each song was well done and the hour flew by much too quickly. His banter was candid and easy-going and, fortunately, he kept it to a minimum, concentrating on his music. I bought NIGHT SESSIONS and am very disappointed. There is a sameness in all the tracks here: an almost Muzak-like feel of overly synthesized music which, thankfully, I did not feel on his much better, earlier CD called SLOWING DOWN THE WORLD. Since Columbia obviously wants to play up the similarities that so many critics and fans have pointed out between Botti and Chet Baker, the album contains several black and white, shirtless pictures and a handsome, color close-up of the artist staring, soulfully into the camera, blond hair tousled perfectly. |
