Down to Earth,

I'm a huge Ozzy fan, but Down to Earth just doesn't have alot of appealing songs on it. The album starts out pretty good with "Gets Me Through" then about half way through the album you're bored with it.Even the best songs on "Down to Earth" do not rank amongest Ozzy's best work. The quality of the songwriting is mediocore at best.If you aren't a big Ozzy fan I would think about it for awhile before I'd purchase "Down to Earth."

Bad album. Love Ozzy, but for whatever reason, this album just doesn't do it. Actually, the reason is, the bad songs. This album and Black Rain just do not meet Ozzy's usual standard. 'Dreamer' makes me feel embarrassed for Ozzy.

This album is not as good as the 80's albums he produced but its not catostrophically bad either. The one thing I really hate about this album is that some of the songs are influenced by nu metal. But there are some catchy tunes like dreamer and gets me through. Buy it if you are into nu metal and grunge but if you want to start listening to real ozzy osbourne get the randy rhoads albums (Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman) those are the best albums by Ozzy Osbourne.

Okay, now I love Ozzy and I love Zakk, but this is not a great album. It has a few decent songs like That I Never Had and Dreamer, but the only thing that saves it from total blandness is the sheer brute power of Gets Me Through, which is a fantastic song in my opinion. However, I have to take issue with the people who have been giving Zakk credit/blame for this album. He didn't write a thing on it (except, presumably, the solos) because, allegedly, Ozzy thought the songs Zakk wrote were 'too Black Label', which was his loss really as the resulting BLS album (19*19 Eternal) was a lot better than Down To Earth.

Face it, this is not a stong Ozzy album. As a longtime fan and Sabbath fan, I see his career as one of ups and downs. All the Sabbath albums recorded between 1970 and 1977 were classics and therefore his solo output has to be judged against this. Sometimes, as in the Rhoads era, he has 100% hit rate - great tracks, great albums! But lately he's lost the ability to sustain quality over the length of a cd. To me Raising Hell is the only standout track, the rest could be any middle of the road metal act.I think what has happened is that the fact that he has, in my view mistakenly coz he is making an ass of himself, concentrated on becoming the reality TV Adams family especially in the States. Consequently he has made little attempt to write in depth over time, plus you can track his "softening" of riffs and lyrics. I suspect that is to ensure that his expanded demographic fanbase is catered for. We wouldnt want little Chuck, 15 and at school in Idaho, to be frightened by heavy music now would we. Save the fact that little Chuck has no idea that this man and Iommi/Butler/Ward all but invented heavy metal, he probably thinks that was done by Korn(crap). Sad!

Horribly Underrated And A Metal Classic,
By HeadbangerDuh (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

Many other reviewers on this site complain that Ozzy has recorded a piece of garbage, and that it is a sellout. Nothing could be further from the truth. On Ozzy's 8th studio album, he takes the crunching metal rhythms of No Rest For The Wicked with the odd, sweeping landscape of Ozzmosis and gives them a contemporary feel. The album starts off with a bizarre piano piece on Gets Me Through which leads to a Led Zeppelin-esque thunder riff. Facing Hell, the next track is great and so are the rest. Go and buy.

I'm new to ozzy (and a little bit older than he is !)but I'm hooked - some real great songs on this cd - Gets Me Through, Facing Hell, Junkie, No Easy Way Out. BUT.... ALIVE is awesome ! ! ! what a beat. Randy Castillo would have loved it...

With the incredible vocals of Ozzy and the great guitar work of Zakk Wylde this cd managed to barily reach a dull moment...the only one being a good part of the balad dreamer. The stand out tracks to me would have to be "gets me through" and "junkie". Good stuff.

Not a classic album.,

I have to admit that I do not like this album. There is nothing outstanding on it. No tracks stand out with either a Riff or rythem you can hum back to. In comparision to some of Ozzy's past albums this isn't a classic.

This is one of Ozzys best cds with the exception of a few. The person who said that he is a hackless loser can just shut up. I loved this cd i have the original and 2 copies.
