5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Deluxe edition
The album Bad contains so many hits, one could think it's a greatest hits compilation! And the new Bad 25th anniversary Deluxe edition just made it even better! Some of the demos included on disc 2 are so good it's hard to comprehend why Michael didn't include them on the original album in the first place (Al Capone, Price Of Fame, Streetwalker, Fly away...) But the best...

3.0 out of 5 stars extra stuff!
The music on this cd is great! I really like the new songs that were added. I've always heard that Mr. Jackson would record many extra songs for his albums. What really disappointed me was the low number of new songs. I also didn't understand why have all of that Quincy Jones interview on the CD. I bought the CD to hear the music, not him talking. Once you have...

Perhaps one of his most consistant efforts. Has a dated feel about, some of those synth solos sounds very late 80's but something of a hidden Gem...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Michael Gets Edge, Oct 23 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bad (Audio CD)
Michael is by far one of the most inventive people in the music business. You'll never hear two songs that sound any where near the same and while being this creative he still remains on top. With this album, the follow up to the best selling album of all time, Thriller, Michael takes a totally different path musically and gives his music a little more edge. Bad, Speed Demon, The Way You Make Me Feel, Dirty Diana, and Leave Me Alone are all prime example of this. In many of these songs Michael is singing rock better than the rocker who've been doing in for decades. This album also marks the begining of Michael signature anthems. If for nothing else get this album simply for Man in the Mirror! A true classic that the world will be listening to for generations to come ("If you want to make the world a better place take a look at yourself and make a change.")

This album was also the first album ever to have 6 #1 singles (Smooth Criminal, Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Leave Me Alone, Man in the Mirror, and Another Part of Me). This is a truly classic album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing!, Oct 22 2001

Although this album was released 14 years ago, the sound of the music stays fresh in your head. Michael Jackson's music has always stood out from the rest and if you don't have Bad yet, this is a time as good as any to buy it. What more with the remastered digital sound and extra tracks. I must say that the extra track "Streetwalker" is a typical Jackson sounding record and in my opinion should have made it on the album on the initial pressing. And the spanish version of IJCSLY is amazing, Michael's vocals really shine on this one as opposed to the english version. "Fly Away" is a brilliant love theme that is reminiscent of the old Michael we know and all I can say is that this album is well worth the buy, even for the extra 3 tracks alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad is Great!, Oct 20 2001

BAD is an incredible follow up to Thriller that features MJ's songwriting talents, as 9 of the 11 songs are written by him alone. It's an incredible achievement that's filled with memorable, dancable, moving, groving songs that will stay with this listener forever. He really came into his own with this album. Thankfully, it's all preserved and remasered for our continued enjoyment.

The sound presented here is really incredible. The pulsating bass on Bad really stands out as does the vocal layering on Leave Me Alone. It's amazing how much better technology is, that this kind of clarity that can be achieved with a 14 year old recording. It's also amazing how well thes songs stand the test of time. These tracks don't seem dated at all.

Aside from the remastering, this special edition also features 9 new photos (plus the original 8 fish eye lens photos), interviews with Quincy Jones and 3 rare songs. A few nit picks: the isn't a track listing for the bonus material in the booklet, the spoken intro to 'I Just Can't Stop Loving You' has been excluded for some reason, some cd cover art would've been nice (all we get is a red cd with white lettering) and I was disappointed to see there wasn't a photo underneath the clear CD tray.

The bonus song 'Streetwalker' was vying for the place 'Another Part of Me' took on the album. It's an ambitious song that beautifully captures a street feel with lots of horns and bass. It's very much dancable and running 5:49 it would've been the longest song on the album. It's wonderful to finally be allowed to hear it but I'm glad it was cut from the album. Not because it's bad but because Another Part of Me is so wonderful. I'd have hated to miss out on it for all this time.

'Fly Away' is a mid tempo love song. A lyrical bon-bon akin to 'I Can't Help It' from Off The Wall. It's not mentioned in teh interview sections why this song was deleted from the album, but it surely deserved a spot, just as long as it wasn't going to replace any other song already on the ablum.

The spanish version of 'I Just Can't Stop Loving You' is really beautiful and it's fun to hear MJ singing in another language ( he nails those rolling the 'R'). Probably won't listen to it much, but it's nice to have anyway.

Ultimately, this special edition is the only edition of BAD to own. The songs have never sounded better and you get 3 incredible bonus songs plus interviews with Quincy Jones. Aside from all that, this is one of the greatest albums from the 80's. How can you go wrong with a cd that features not one but FIVE number one hits?!?! BAD is Great!

4.0 out of 5 stars The cherry on top..., Oct 18 2001
By
"trapr1" (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bad (Audio CD)
As most people know, Bad is one of Michael's best albums -- in terms of sales, awards, Top 10 singles, and diverse music -- so the album automatically gets a few stars for its history (no pun intended). However, moving forward, this album offers some unique DVD-like (but audio) extras such as "Streetwalker" and "Fly Away" which can be considered the cherry on top of this already terrific album. "Streetwalker" is easily my favorite additional song on the CD because of its catchy intro and outro. The commentary by Quincy is also a great addition and gives you some exciting "behind the scenes" knowledge. All in all, this is a great purchase for the MJ fan or for the person who doesn't own "Bad" yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad Remastered, Oct 17 2001
This review is from: Bad (Audio CD)
Michael Jackson had the insurmountable task of following up what was not only the biggest selling album of time, but a real cultural phenomenon. Thriller was released in late 1982 and due to its success it took Mr. Jackson five years to release its follow-up. While Bad obviously was not half as big as Thriller in terms of sales, it is still a great record. The title track finds Mr. Jackson taking a defiant stance and instead of running away from trouble as he did in "Beat It", he stakes it head-on. "The Way You Make Me Feel" is a bright and sunny song that has an incredibly infectious groove. "Just Good Friends" is a real treat as he duets with Stevie Wonder and you get to hear two masters at work. "Man In the Mirror" is a spiritual song that begs one to look at themselves and see that we can all make a difference. "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" is a good ballad that is a duet with Siediah Garrett, the songs writer. It was original written to be sung with Whitney Houston, but when she was unavailable, Ms. Garrett stepped in and does a nice good. "Dirty Diana" is a blazing rocker and "Leave Me Alone" is angry tirade against the circus atmosphere that his life had become due to the media. "Smooth Criminal" is a pumping track that has vicious beat and tremendous vocal. Bad does hold one record over Thriller, it became the first album to produce five number one singles ("I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad", "Dirty Diana", "Man In the Mirror" & "The Way You Make Me Feel"). The remastered version has an excellent song that is making its first appearance anywhere, "Streetwalker". The song would have easily fit on the album and fits Mr. Jackson's persona of the time perfectly. "Fly Away" is solid, while the Spanish version of "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" is worth a listen for curiosity's sake, but doesn't offer much else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not BAD,it's awesome!, Feb 24 2004
By
andy8047 (Nokomis,Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bad (Audio CD)
BAD,Michael Jackson's third solo album on the Epic label, spawned seven Top 20 hits as did its predecessor THRILLER. The hits include the title track, which "Weird Al" Yankovic would later use the music for his parody FAT. THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL kicks butt. ANOTHER PART OF ME is cool also. MAN IN THE MIRROR tells about children, naked, hungry and penniless. I JUST CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU is a duet between Jackson and Siedah Garrett. DIRTY DIANA is about an aspiring actress and/or singer. SMOOTH CRIMINAL sounds awesome. Except DIRTY DIANA,SMOOTH CRIMINAL and ANOTHER PART OF ME,the aforementioned songs would later appear on HISTORY BOOK I,PAST,PRESENT and FUTURE. JUST GOOD FRIENDS is a duet between Jackson and Stevie Wonder. In 1987,when this album was released,Wonder released an album the same year with another Jackson-Wonder duet. LEAVE ME ALONE is a bonus track, unavailable on the defunct LP. When Yankovic released his EVEN WORSE album in 1988,he did a parody of this album cover with the very same art conception.
