A load of Garbage,
By Steve Larson (Mankato, Minnesota United States) - See all my reviews

What a horrendous album. I can't believe I wasted my hard-earned dollars on it. I listened to whole thing, and the next day, I felt compelled to toss it out of my window of my car on the way to work. Can someone tell me what happened to this band? They were once one of my favorites, seems like they totally sold out. If you buy this album, and listen to it, you will be sorry.

The Burning Bush Has Been Extinguished,

This review is from: Golden State (Audio CD)
Bush used to be a respectable band. IT even looked like they would break free of that pretty boy image with Razorblade Suitcase, an amazing album that boasted awesome tracks. Then came The Science of Things, not great, but still listenable. IF there was any doubt that bush is over, this album will erase it. You might think I'm wrong by listening to the first three tracks. They're pretty good. "Solutions" is typical Bush but is comforting and Rossdale sounds great. "Handful of Ghosts" will really have you confused about the album. It's one of the best songs they've ever done with a haunting chorus that is unforgettable. Even the radio friendly "People we Love" is good for some air quitar solos. After that, turn off the album. It's downhill and the album is downright awful. Every track opens with the same quitar loops and songs such as "Superman" and "Fugitive" will make you want to pull your hair out. How can a man with such a gifted voice sing so horribly on these tracks? Even the supossedly beautiful "Inflated" is an awful, redundant torture. If I were Gwen, I'd be pretty pissed if someone wrote that song for me. The rest of the album needs no mention. Simply refer to the comments above. Too bad the first songs of the album didn't influence the rest. If no one has told him yet, Gavin, you might be beautiful and have a great voice, but it's time to throw in the towel.

Let the Gold grow on you.,

I bought the album after hearing "The People That We Love" (originally called "Speed Kills", the title was changed after the 9/11 disaster) and "Headful of Ghosts". I loved the first for its hard rock passion... a grunge anthem, in the year 2001? And as for "Headful of Ghosts"... mellow, a tad depressing, but overall beautiful. A touch of humanity.So... buying the record was the right move to make, right? At first, I wondered if I wasted my money. The tracks were so slow, and they just lacked... something. Something like pizazz... the stuff that "The People That We Love" had. But then I listened again and again... and again and again... and I found that I fell in love with tracks like "Superman", "Hurricane", and my current Golden State favorite "Inflatable". This is a great mix of a mellower style and 90s alternative... and that's not something that's popular at this point, but it makes for awesome art. This is a record that has to be truly listened to by ear... the lyrics are symbolic, figurative, and at other times, cuttingly straightforward. But they're all fantastic just the same. It's modern poetry.

I love this Album. It's a real rock record. With only one suB par offering-my engine is with you. Everything else is deep and powerful.

The worst Bush CD by FAR,

Anybody who grew up listening to Bush would agree that they have gotten worse and worse over the years. Their first album was terrific, the second album was not quite as good but still was well worth getting, the third album had a few great songs, a bunch of okay songs, and some that sucked. Now with Golden State, Bush has created an all-time low for themselves without one single good song on the album. It's amazing, even the singles they picked for this album suck. Every minute of this CD is boring and uninspired. It's like Gavin used up every good idea he ever had. Don't bother picking this album up, it's worthless.

Bush's best album to date as a whole,

Sure, Sixteen Stone might have been more popular, and yielded more radio hits and record sales, but Golden State is a far superior album in a number of ways. I was very surprised at the maturity of Bush as a collective whole. Everything from the lyrics to the music has grown big time. On Golden State, the band seems renewed. I must say, this is the first Bush album since Sixteen Stone where I liked almost every song on the album. While Razorblade Suitcase and The Science of Things had a few good songs, those albums were not very good as a whole. I figured Bush was done after The Science of Things, because the album didn't sell well, and it was their worst effort by far. Thank goodness they're back on track now, and I hope they can continue to put gems like this together for many years to come. My favorite songs on the CD are without a doubt, "Head Full of Ghosts", "Superman', "Hurricane", and "Inflatable".

Another Great Bush CD,
By Shelley Geiger (Glendive, Montana USA) - See all my reviews

This album like Sixteen Stone, The Science of Things, and Razor Blade Suitcase is a CD worthy to all bush fans that do not rely on hits that other albums have made.I first heard Bush off the soundtrack of American Werewolf in Paris and love all of their CD's. Bush might have come after the megaband Nirvana, but they have their own sound. With this CD it is full of good hits like solutions, head full of ghosts, and superman. This album has a lot of emotion ranging from love, anger, and sadness. Gavin Rossdale's writings have become better and more complex over the years and it has shown on this CD. My personal opinion is that inflatable is the best song on the album. I would recommend this CD to someone that loves the sound of Bush when people were tagging them as Nirvana knock-offs.

Sixteen Stone II,
By james (USA) - See all my reviews

And here they are again, Bush coming back with their fourth (and possibly their best) album: "Golden State". Losing touch with most of their fans with their third release "The Science of Things", Bush decided to go back to their regular post-grunge ways. The reason I labeled this album four stars is because this album sounds like a sequel to Sixteen Stone, which is perfectly alright it's just when I bought this album I was expecting a change (like their previous follow ups to Sixteen Stone) that would put Bush back on the charts. Now now, dont get me wrong this album is still a perfection, "The People That We Love" makes the whole album worth-while and while they still have their weaknesses, ("My Engine is With You" and "Out of the World") such songs as "Headful of Ghosts" and "Flost" definetly make up for it. Another reason why I put the album four stars is because the album sounds REALLY typical and arguably out of date. Every song on this album does tend to sound the same in most cases (something that was never a problem with Bush before) and the only song that really changes direction is "Inflatable" and while that song is pretty good, it's different what most Bush songs sound. If you're a real fan of Bush (and love Sixteen Stone) I guarantee you'll love this album and should definetly buy it if you're smart. Atleast this album still shows that Bush has the strength to survive through all the mainstream metal (and/or hard rock). Standouts: "Solutions" "Headful of Ghosts" "The People That We Love" "Inflatable" "Float"
