I enjoyed this CD very much, exclusive of a few songs of course. Metro is fantastic, as well as Bizarre Love Triangle and Melt with Me...I must say that nobody can adequately cover Depeche Mode but I do feel that Scott Weiland did an amazing job! I hate to admit it, but I actually like the cover better than the original. All in all, this is a great CD, but a ROTTEN movie!

This is a great soundtrack. The best songs are GC's cover of "If You Leave" and Goldfinger's "99 Red Balloons".

Not another cover soundtrack,

Its simply a collection of sub-par covers. I perfer the original recordings of all of these songs. The only outstanding track is Scott Weiland's "But Not Tonight." It has a catchy but haunting intro that will be stuck in your mind for weeks. This CD is symbolic of hollywood in general: it lacks fresh ideas and thus redoes classic movies, Tv shows, etc with dismal results.

The album is an excellent compilation of some badass 80's covers. Good Charlotte's "If You Leave" is amazing, but the best track on the album goes to Goldfinger's cover of "99 Red Balloons." There's nothing quite like that song to get a person really, really excited and incite a well of energy that one wouldn't otherwise know existed.

more songs not included on the soundtrack,

good soundtreack but there were a couple more songs in the movie that were not included on the cd that I was wondering about. The first song I'm wondering about might have just been something made for the movie but it sounded like the beginning of a song I've heard but can't recall. It's the song played while Catherine is "making over" Janey when Jake brings Catherine over to Janey's house. The second song, I know I've heard before, is played for a couple of seconds in the background at the party right before the old lady tells Catherine she's never been kissed. If anyone could help me find the titles of these songs that'd be great.

Manson's cover of "Tainted Love" and Orgy's cover of "Blue Monday" are just great and as a DJ I see both songs pack the dance floor week after week after week!I don't care for the rest of the CD at all, if your a industrial type DJ I would recommend owning the cd for the two listed songs above, however as a music fan I would be hard pressed to recommend this CD.

To answer cheesemeister02's question about the road trip song-it's "Let's Go" by the Cars, another obvious overlook by the people who put this soundtrack together.

Killing the eighties,

It's been standard practice for some time for pop soundtracks to include new versions of older hits. Since NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE was largely a spoof of films of the eighties, it's appropriate that the soundtrack reference the music of same. It seems the music is also largely a spoof, and an unfunny one at that. Most of these remakes will horrify anyone who grew up with these songs. A disappointingly narrow selection of corporate alternative bands put their generic, grungy stamp on almost a dozen classic new wave tracks, completely obliterating any integrity they once had. These artists clearly don't understand the original music at all. System of a Down makes an atrocity of Berlin. Saliva murder "Message of Love." Mest make a mess of "I Melt With You." And please, please stop Muse before they record another Smiths song. The two Depeche Mode covers are at least listenable but they are boring. There are exactly two cuts worth hearing on this album, and only one of them is new. Marilyn Manson rejuvenates Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" and Orgy's cover of "Blue Monday" is even better than New Order's original. The latter previously appeared on Orgy's own debut album, so you probably already have it. That leaves one reason to own this CD. I'd recommend just getting the movie DVD. It's not great, but it's moderately entertaining, and at least then you'll have the "Tainted Love" video. Hey, there's even nudity. |
