BABY MOZART is the one to buy,
By "tkvm3" (Ohio, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Baby Mozart (DVD)
Friends gave us the BABY MOZART video (made 1998) as a gift for our infant when he was 4 months old. He loved it then and he loves it now. It completely holds his attention for the 28 minutes or so it runs. Our little guy has watched it dozens of times over the last two months. It takes Mozart's music and presents it in very child-friendly renditions with simple visuals of toys and puppets. The pacing and length are exactly right. We have played BABY MOZART about 3 times a week for the last 2 months and our little guy enjoys it every time. He smiles and giggles at his favorite parts. Believe it or not, the only time he loses interest is when the credits and ads come on at the end ! We can almost guarantee ourselves almost a half hour of getting chores done around the house as the program runs. (Buy it on DVD because you will eventually wear out the tape.) BABY BEETHOVEN is a fair program and our little guy will sometimes sit through about 15 minutes of it but it pales in comparison to BABY MOZART. The Beethoven video includes even more pointless shots of children and lots of [pricey] toys and mobiles which it promotes at the end. The music on BEETHOVEN and BACH is certainly as good as the Mozart video but for our baby and for us, the overall presentations just don't cut it. BABY MOZART however is a wonderful program and should be in almost every child's video library. With Mozart, they did catch magic in a bottle. Too bad they weren't able to repeat it with the later efforts.

I'm surprised...,

I truly am surprised by the number of positive reviews for this DVD. My son has loved music since birth, but could have cared less for this video. We tried it every couple of weeks to see if it would ever hold his attention, to no avail - I think the longest he lasted was 5 minutes. He did, however, love The Muppet Show (which we're slowing collecting as each subsequent season becomes available) and still does. Now that he's just over a year old, he also enjoys the Baby Einstein Counting and Body Parts DVDs, but again, the Mozart DVD was a total bust, and based on our experience, I can't recommend it. I also have a serious 'beef' with all of the promotional garbage you HAVE to watch before you get to the actual video.

Great tool!,

I loved this video mostly because it was a great tool to help extend my baby's wake time in the mornings. It kept her interested but not overstimulated. It wasn't too loud or too busy, it was a perfect balance! Well thought out, I think.

The series is very interesting and I'm wondering if more kids videos are on the way. My children are 6 and 3 and like watching these and other videos again and again.

I give three stars only because it does come in handy if you need to occupy your infant for thirty minutes, and the video is at least age appropriate for infants...I would much rather have a one year old watch this than a faster paced cartoon. We received this video, Baby Einstein and Baby Bach as a gift and I was not impressed with any of them, although, as I said, they did once in a while come in handy. I do highly recommend some of the newer BE series videos...we got Baby Van Gogh and Baby Doolittle Neighborhood Animals when my daughter was a baby and they are so much better because they use puppets and have a theme and some structure. I never understood the "video board book" concpet of watching the video as an activity with your child...I much preferred looking at picture books when my children were infants.

My 5 month old loves this video. He will watch it all the way through and sometimes twice. He's been watching it since he was 3 months old and still loves it. It is so nice to be able to get things done and know that he is being entertained. Every parent should have this video.

We own 4 of these DVDs, and the content is great, but there are a rediculous amount of commercials at the beginning that cannot be skipped. Spare us the garbage, please!

Even though he has it memorized, he loves to watch it and "sing" along and, especially, growl with the dragon. It's a boy thing, ok? :-DMy other children love it as well. And, as with the other musical Baby Einstein videos, this one is not annoying to parents. A big plus in children's video today.

My son, who is now 5, started listening to Baby Bach & Mozart as a baby. He then listened to the other Einstein series. Today, he can differentiate Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Vivaldi when he hears them randomly -- e.g. at store that's playing a CD. I attribute this to the Baby Einstein series. It's a must for music appreciation.
