3.0 out of 5 stars Yoga Zone - Postures for Pregnancy
I found this video to be easy to follow. It included postures that were easy for a beginner and more advanced poses. I would recommend this video to someone who has some yoga experience.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Purchase this DVD!, April 20 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Postures for Pregnancy - Yoga (DVD)
This is by far the worst thing ever! I couldn't bear to listen to it for more than 10 minutes. The girl on the front barely talks and her husband does it all.... very annoying.

Not recomended at all!

I couldn't stand the guy in this workout. Very boring I watched it once with the sound on and then tried again with it with no sound. I didn't like it either way.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not recommended, Mar 11 2004

I saw good reviews for this video on another site, so I purchased it for my own pregnancy. I was very unsettled by what was contained on the tape. While Finger's descriptions are pretty clear and he does give a good introductory speech about the problems women can encounter with breathing during the later stages of their pregnancy, he includes a number of postures that are contraindicated past the fourth or fifth month. Downward Dog, Standing Forward Bends and Standing Forward Folds are all inversions (which bring your head beneath your waist). Most ob-gyns are adamant that these postures should not be performed once the pregnancy gets too heavy. So I find Finger's claim that this is a routine that can be safely done at all stages of pregnancy hard to swallow. Clearly, his wife Greta, the model here, was able to perform those postures in her seventh month of pregnancy without any visible side effects. That doesn't mean, however, that the same will hold true for all women.

If you have your heart set on this routine, I advise discussing it with your doctor before you begin.

I found the dvd to be very boring. A man does most of the speaking throughout. He was very monotone and not motivating. I was annoyed having some who would never go through pregnancy explain the benefits. He obviously will never have experience. The woman doing the exercises was pregnant.

1.0 out of 5 stars So Annoying I Could Only Handle Doing This Once, May 1 2003

I wish I would have known about all the different prenatal Yoga videos out there! There has definately got to be something better than this. As it is, this was the only one my local video store had. I was six months pregnant when I watched it. I kept waiting for the instructor to stop talking so I could enjoy the poses and have a relaxing workout. Oh no, he talks constantly the whole 50 minutes of the video, explaining in excrutiating detail all the poses. He spends so much time explaining the poses...and then they're only held for seconds before moving on to the next one. So most of the time I was not doing anything because I was waiting for him to finish explaining the next pose, and I just wanted him to show it already so I could do it! Don't waste your time or money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great relief for a changing body, Mar 1 2003

I got this DVD as a gift and was a bit surprised and disappointed when I realized that it was the husband explaining all the moves while his wife demonstrated. I mean, we're supposed to get advice from other women, right? However, I gave it a go and tried it a couple of times.

I have to admit that the techniques (or postures) in this video have helped me the most. It's not a yoga workout. It's simply different postures that you can get into to help relieve some of the pressures on your changing body. I find that I use it more as stretching ideas than an actual workout.

I also miss it when I don't do it - my body starts to feel more constricted and uncomfortable.

Again, this is NOT a workout video. For that, I'd suggest Rocki's Prenatal Yoga video. This one contains different poses and detailed information on how to do the pose properly. Most of the different poses are accompanied by a reason for the pose - i.e. This one relieves the neck and shoulders, this one helps with tension in the back of the legs, etc. So that after you've done the video a couple of times, you quickly pick up on the different poses you can do when you only have time for a momentary release. For instance, your lower back is hurting, so take a moment to stand against the wall and slide down into a squatting position. Then get up and continue on with what you're doing. (Although your office mates may think you're a bit odd, they tend to excuse any weird actions during pregnancy.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Heaven sent, Feb 11 2003

This review is from: Postures for Pregnancy - Yoga (DVD)
Twenty minutes into this DVD I realised I had purchased something that was going to be of enormous benefit during my pregnancy. There is no irritating new-age background music, the commentator gives clear instructions (so that you can concentrate on the pose and getting your form correct) and it places particular emphasis on back strengthening exercises. I do have previous yoga experience so I'd hesitate to recommend it someone who has never been to yoga class unless they were already fit and reasonably flexible. It sure beats flicking through a book, having to stop every few minutes to read each of the instructions to make sure you have the correct pose. I have purchased 2 books on pregnancy and yoga and both have remained unopened since I bought the Yoga Zone DVD. So if you are like me and have done some yoga, but live in a remote area with no access to a class tailored for pregnancy then this is by far and away the next best thing - you won't regret it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners, Jan 17 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Postures for Pregnancy - Yoga (DVD)
This video is not for pregnant moms with no yoga experience - some of the instruction was hard to follow and the poses - even the ones that might seem simple - were sometimes quite difficult for me (I'm 7 and one half months pregnant).

There was no pregnancy preparation (e.g., kegels) either.

I'm still looking for a good pre-natal DVD with light stretching and exercise.

We own another Yoga Zone DVD, and it is great, so naturally I bought this one when my wife got pregnant. This is NOT the same format as the other Yoga Zone DVD. It is a guy (and his 8-month pregnant wife as a model) advising you the different positions. There is no background music, and the poses are held for long periods of time while the guy explains correct form.

We were not interested in "performing" or getting the forms exactly right, but rather light exercise that was safe and easy to do. This video is more for someone with extensive Yoga experience.
