4.0 out of 5 stars A little Bland..., Jun 13 2004

This review is from: Curb (Audio CD)
I hated grunge and as an older music fan I hated any new music because there seemed to be no originality at all in music, but hey there still isn't and that ain't good nor bad. It seems as if Nickleback has one thing on their side and that is a loyal fan base. How many bands in this era of music have actually released four albums and are still well liked? Not many. Anyways, Curb is an album that sounds like four hundred other bands but lyrically they are miles above anyone else. If given a choice of actually naming newer bands that I respect I would pick Disturbed and Nickleback on lyrical content only. This cd is far better than the mess of Silver side up which was horribly written and generic in its musical mediocrity. Chad's voice stands out well, and songs like the title track and my personal favorite Where bristle with an energy that sadly seems lacking in any other new release from the millions of crappy nu-metal bands that seem destined to release one album and fade into obscurity. I urge everyone to pick this up and to all of those nu metal bashing hate mongers relax and buy something from the eighties or seventies and learn to accept that musical integrity is a thing of the past and just enjoy the products that the labels sell us. It was a hard lesson for me to learn but I'm okay with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars CURB--------your enthusiasm !, Dec 9 2009

It would be just fine if Chadwick and Co. followed this road into oblivion where the road - end leads to the edge of the "FLAT" concept of the world. They're stuck in a MEDIEVAL equivalent of rock music---DARK AGE ROCK . Bring back the musical DUCKING STOOL to put an end to this pathetic group of so called musicians' output of digitized disposable bits and bytes. These arrogant fellows should thank their lucky stars there are few INQUISITORS OF MUSIC currently around to steer poor unsuspecting music consumers away from their repetitive formula of noise.Do yourself a favour and "CURB" your wallet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album.., May 16 2004
This review is from: Curb (Audio CD)
I bought 'Curb' 2 years ago for $7 when i was into more mainstream music like Blink 182, Green Day, ect. When I started playing guitar, my tastes took a shift and i listen to heavier/'better' music. Today i decided to listen to some of my older cds (greenday, offspring, ect) and decided to listen to nickelback's curb..

The album has a more natural, less produced sound, and has more passion, the things todays music doesnt have. Its almost like the opposite of Nickelback today. Its surprisingly good and underrated.. Chad's vocals, the bass, guitar, everything in general is actually fairly good, it makes newer nickelback pale in comparison.

1. Little Friend- Good heavy opener, 10/10
2. Pusher - Fairly unique, heavy, even with the acoustic verses 9/10
3. Detangler - wow.. the lyrics are amazing, and have great emotion an sincerity, it really draws you in 10/10
4. Curb - The title track, starts out quieter, turns into one of Nickelbacks heaviest songs ever.. great emotion, good use of dynamics with instruments and chads screaming vocals 10/10
5. Where? - pretty catchy, good meaning behind it, some good guitar work near the bridge 8/10
6. Falls Back On - Another fast/heavy song, 8/10
7. Sea Groove - very intense, hard to desribe, but great 10/10
8. Fly - the single from this album.. not much to say about it.. i used to like it more 8/10
9. Just For - A newer version of this can be found on silver side up. This version is better in my opinion.. more natural and angry 9/10
10. Left - slightly mediocore 7/10
11. Window Shopper - catchy guitar riffs and some unique vocals/lyrics
12. I Dont have - A great finishing track 10/10

Even though it starts stronger than it finishes, curb is a great hard rock album with a natural sound, and isnt what youd expect from the Nickelback you know, and is anything but mainsteam. it should be found relatively cheap, too. if you can pick it up easily, i recommend you do

2.0 out of 5 stars Really Monotonous, Nov 5 2003

Ok, I like Nickelback, but after hearing this album, I understand why it wasn't until their second album that they got famous. I literally got a headache from how repetitive and monotonous Chad Kroeger's singing was.

The album really wasn't that expensive, which was good, but I still don't think that spending money on it is a wise decision. It's probably a better idea to go out and buy Theory of a Deadman instead.

Curb is great, but their work(s) only get better with time, work and age. There is no better than these guys, but if you like Curb, you will love The State, Silver Side Up, and The Long Road. And if you can get it, Hesher, is their classic beginning to this fantastic band and their legacy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nickelback's First Album Is No Slouch, But Not Their Best, Mar 16 2003
This review is from: Curb (Audio CD)
Just after Nickelback released such great albums as "The State" (1999) and "Silver Side Up" (2001), we here in the U.S. finally got a chance to own their first album from 1996, entitled "Curb". You'd think after 5 years, a band who has such a knack for writing fabulous songs would have changed their style a bit. Not in their case...."Curb" still has the same kind of catchy hard-rock grooves that you would hear on their other 2 albums. That really isn't a bad thing though, I mean, more great Nickelback songs, nothing wrong with that! Some of the tunes that stood out to me were "Little Friend", "Detangler" and "Falls Back On" amongst others. Remember the song "Just For" from the "Silver Side Up" album? Well, they have an earlier version of it on here, which isn't as good as the more recent version, but it's still cool. This album, as good as it is, proves to me that Nickelback is getting better as they go. I mean, "The State" was awesome, "Silver Side Up" was even better. This album is probably their weakest effort, but they WERE just getting started after all. It's ok though, just because the album doesn't quite measure up to the 2 more recent ones, doesn't mean it's no good. I still would highly recommnend picking it up if you have the other albums. It's Nickelback doing what they do best....ROCK!

Being a long time Nickelback fan I was thrilled when this was braught out again. Living in Canada has it's great advantages as well.
Nickelback has such a unique style that you cant mistake it for anything else out there (Thank God). Chads voice is so distinct you can recognize it anywhere....even if you can hardly hear the music it's so quiet.
Every song on every album they've made is unbelievable.
I cant wait for next year!!!!
