versus
3.0 out of 5 stars I have yet to view this DVD, but..
I'm glad that Mary-ELlis and Jon have decided to place seasons 1 and 12 of the Real World on DVD, but what about some of my favorites, like Boston, Miami, Seattle, and Chicago? I would love to relieve Genesis's self-discovery and just plain old b**chy Flora.... I hope that they do release all the seasons.

4.0 out of 5 stars Watching not the same as 1992 / Best cast, April 14 2004
This review is from: Real World: New York - Season 1 (Full Screen) (DVD)
I can remeber the first time it's debut in May of 1992. I was a sophomore in high school. I was hooked from then on this was so new and experimental to TV for the quote on quote Gen X generation. I watched it all the way through addicted to these 7 strangers. This DVD collection has all the shows but be aware what made the show episodes so good is the music they put in at certain moments it told a story. That is not in this collection they put some instrumental music over it. So you won't hear Finally by CeCe Peniston at the Roxy with Norman, Heather, & Julie roller skating or wiggle it when Eric is dancing at Julie's dance class. Overall watching this is great to see the episodes again over ten years later but it's not the same as watching back in 92 the feeling of something new & wild. This season was truly the best most interesting castmembers with great story lines. The show isn't the same now unfortunetly going into it's 15 season. So it's worth adding to collection for nostalgic reasons you go back an visit Norm, Heather, Kevin, Julie, Eric, Becky, & Andre at a fun time.

1.0 out of 5 stars And this is from a die-hard RW fan., Mar 15 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Real World: New York - Season 1 (Full Screen) (DVD)
Ok. I love the Real World. Love it. Watched it from season one on . . . religiously until season nine or so. I bought this DVD the day it was released.

I could not have been more disappointed.

The original soundtrack is gone, replaced by a horrible, grating score (no "Finally" at Roxy?!). The crawl is gone (and some of the best moments--like Eric's scar story--took place during the closing credit sequence). The features (asinine episode intros and a schlocky "pilot") just suck.

My advice to fans: Get a DVD recorder and wait for a marathon on MTV.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT worth buying, Jan 31 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Real World: New York - Season 1 (Full Screen) (DVD)
As a consumer you don't need to read a review for you to know that this set is not worth buying. I have not bought it and will not. The original music for the show was replaced with generic crap. If you watch The Real World, you know that the music creates moods and adds so much to the show. This show relies on it's music to maintain that feel of drama.

This review is from: Real World: New York - Season 1 (Full Screen) (DVD)
Its great watching where Real World started, its fun watching the styles of the early 90s, the bigs hair etc. but the songs are missing, like where is "Opposites Attract" and all those other early 90s classics? Recommended but with no music it loses its appeal.

3.0 out of 5 stars real show... fake music, Feb 19 2003
This review is from: Real World: New York - Season 1 (Full Screen) (DVD)
I love the Real World series. I started watching at the Chicago series, then watched the other seasons and loved them all... the earlier ones are the better ones. Since I loved the New york season (it was the most real and they didn't act), I bought the dvd. Before even the first 10 minutes, I turned it off. I noticed something strange... there was different music! All of the original musci from the show was changed to newer, but worse music. I loved the original 1990's music! ...

omg dont buy this. its terrible. all the 1990's music has been replaced!!! WHY??? That is so stupid. i came so close to buying this dvd.. i am so glad i got out bidded on ebay. it was a close one! i am not cutting down the show.. the show was awesome. i mean the main reason i wanted it was to hear all the 1992ish songs! there is no reason to buy it now.. screw it! maybe they will come out with a better one later.
