Very Best of Fleetwood Mac,
By Cheeseman (Ontario, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Very Best of Fleetwood Mac (Audio CD)
The best collection of the modern Fleetwood Mac yet. All the songs have a fresh and crisp feel to them. A very nice remaster of their Greatest Hits. I wish they would come out with such a collection for the Original Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green.

I saw Fleetwood Mac live in June 2009 - fabulous show - left there high on the music, bought this 2-disc set and "The Dance" DVD which has many of the same songs as the CD set. I enthusiastically recommend both, separately or together for anyone who loves this music, especially since you may, like me, appreciate now even more the contributions of Christine McVie, who is no longer on tour with the band. Lindsey Buckingham is a guitar god!

"budget" version of 'mac's greatest?,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac (Audio CD)
i personally feel 'mac have yet to produce a feasible greatest hits, you have this version or the previous '90s compilation or you have "the chain", the 2 former compilations are a bit like budget versions, whereas the latter (the chaim) is your "luxury" version, however, i would not really class it greatest hits as such, a lot of it is unheard of tracks. i personally am more interested in 'mac's best songs, not their single releases.for me, this should include performances from the live album, such as "rhiannon", "fireflies" & "farmers daughter" as well as "sisters of the moon", "gold dust woman", it would also be nice to intersperse this with some early 'mac/peter green tracks, including concert versions, perhaps combining the artist's solo tracks, ie christine's single successes, lindsey's solo tracks &, etc, their must be in the archives some rare versions, having spanned such a long, successful career. i think also, following the success of "say you will", they are set for a new compilation? am i right?

This 2 CD set includes all of the Fleetwood Mac's hits from albums "Fleetwood Mac" & "Rumours" (Basically it contains the entire "Rumours" album, minus 2 tracks)."Tusk", "Mirage", "Tango in the Night" are also represented well on this collection. I won't bother to go into every song and whether or not it should have been included in this set, but anything from "The Dance" should have been left off in place of the original. "Big Love", the acoustic and whiny version presented here does not do the song justice. "Go Insane" I guess was a way for Buckingham to sneak in one of his solo hits onto a Mac album. It's also kind of sad to hear a band that was so original and inventive, go from songs like "The Chain" and "Tusk" to elevator pap like "Skies the Limit" and "Paper Doll". I enjoy the early stuff, hits or not, but everything after "Tango in the Night" should have been left to the record store bargain bins. Instead of buying this, look for used copies of Mac's early albums, I've seen them listed for $5 and under, you could probably buy all of them for the price of this one collection.

The mastering could be better,

The choice of material is OK I guess, but come on, digital distortion in Songbird (both times when she sings "..the score...") and Rhiannon? Somebody was asleep at the controls.Thankfully the remastered Tusk CD released this year wasn't pushed as hot as the tracks that appear on this collection were from it.

The 'Nearly' Complete Set,

I've always been happy with my Fleetwood Mac Box Set (4 discs; 72 songs) and the 1990 Greatest Hits. But this double CD collection has sixteen more songs than the one from fourteen years prior. These include such unforgettable classics like, "Monday Morning", "Silver Springs", "Landslide", "Think About Me' and "Gold Dust Woman". "Family Man" and "Big Love (live)" are some clever Buckingham numbers, but not great. The videos on this Double CD are nice to watch, but one viewing will be all you'll probably need. Still, with the complete and exhaustive Box Set hard to find (and expensive), this surpasses the 1990 Greatest Hits collection by far. This is much more for the average interested fan, but also required for the collector - so it works for everyone.

It is just so unreal to realize, that we often forget about certain artists in the music industry because they are older. That does seem to be the case with so many acts from the 70's. It still doesn't surprise me, but no matter what people think of music now, there will always be a special place for so much great music out there in so many people and their hearts. That just truly is the case for Fleetwood Mac. They have no doubt, seem to define what survival is absolutely all about. They have encountered substance abuse, and other hazards that would enchant the formula of mass destruction that would never lead a band back together again. The music still leads a lot more than ever. The 2002 Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac is considered as a gem for any fan of the 70's group, or for anybody who is just started to be interested in their groove. The double-disc collection contains 36 great songs that are truly landmarked here, accept without failures including Time from 1995, and earlier records from the 1960's and 70's, but they aren't featured here. The songs are just absolutely geared into greatness. The songs range from upbeat and signature classics like Landslide and Little Lies, to absolute true masterpieces like Gypsy, Don't Stop, Hold Me, and Sara. The album highlights a whole lot, including some great songs like Tusk, and Silver Springs as well. Still, it would also lead into another chapter for Fleetwood Mac. Longtime member, Christie McVie, left the group in the 1990's after their comeback live record, The Dance. That leads into the behind the scenes of Say You Will for 2003, which none of the songs from that record are on it, for people who don't have a computer. Truthfully, Say You Will, didn't do as well as this did, largely because there was no commercial support for that record on radio. It just surprises me that I've just rediscovered Fleetwood Mac for what they truly are. Nevertheless, they've had a fantastic journey for what they've encountered as a group. I still wish that so many people who are onterested in manufactured artists today, can try to celebrate these gems from the past. The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac is a absolute must have.

Great Collection,

Fleetwood Mac is an excellent band and the collection here speaks for itself! You can't argue what's here, but maybe what's NOT! The 1990 hit "Save Me" is not here nor the studio version of "Big Love". I like the live track, but for the casual fan, they may prefer the radio hit version. The packaging is superb with pictures and liner notes. For the casual fan that is not sure about buying it because it is a double-disc collection, then try their 1988 "Greatest Hits" single disc album. Either way, you won't go wrong. Now that Fleetwood Mac's recent album was successful, I'm already looking forward to their next album. Believe me, we need MORE bands like Fleetwood Mac.

This CD is perfect. All the hits are there plus the mesmerizing "Big Love", "Go Insane", and "I'm So Afraid" from 97's The Dance. I wanted this CD first for the enhanced goodies. I popped the disk in my computer on Christmas Day and got nothing but a page that "cannot be found" when clicking for the Vaults.
