5.0 out of 5 stars Almost As Good As The Movie!
I've seen the movie atleast 20 times (no joke) and when I'm not watching the movie, I'm listening to the soundtrack (on repeat mode). These are songs you just can't get tired of. The more listen to them, the more you love them!!

Great movie and this could have been a great soundtrack album if it wasn't completely ruined by the two additional tracks tacked on to the end of the CD. How could the producers have allowed this abomination?!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!, Jun 14 2004
This review is from: Chicago (The Miramax Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
This CD is one of my favourite CD's. The performances are much more gripping on film, I recommend buying the film and then if you like the performances buy the recording. Otherwise check into the stage performances of Chicago.

But wow! The Kander and Ebb score is to die for!! Chicago is one of my favourite musical scores and the energy and excitement of their music comes out so well here! Both of the leading ladies are amazing and even Richard Gere has his moments. An altogether amazing and must have recording!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bang for your buck!, May 23 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Chicago (The Miramax Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
This CD only has 2 songs that I found to be really awful. #17 and #18. I don't what they were thinking when they put those 2 on the CD. The other songs are catchy and jazzy, and for $13, it's worth your money. Everyone complains about Class, but I like it. It has a certain appeal. The instrumental songs are great, they aren't boring and dull like some. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah, Richard Gere, Renee Zellweger and John C. Reilly do a great job singing, especially Catherine. Overall, if you're looking for a good CD with great jazzy numbers, I recommend this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Fantastic, May 18 2004
This review is from: Chicago (The Miramax Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
I love musicals and this movie was great. even though the actors aren't by profession singers, catherine zeta-jones and queen latifah do a fabulous job. renee zellweger has a great voice for the part she plays as does richard gere. what disappointed me about the soundtrack is that it doesn't contain the all instrumental "Chicago After Midnight". i've been looking everywhere for a recording but haven't had any luck so far. if anyone can help me out, leave a message!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Soundtrack since The Man From Snowy River, April 2 2004
By
This review is from: Chicago (The Miramax Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
Wow! The music is outstanding! What more can I say? I do believe it is essential to watch the movie first to really understand and appreciate the soundtrack. I heard the soundtrack before watching the movie and was actually uncertain about watching the film. I didn't understand the lyrics or in the context they were being sung. After watching the movie I bought the soundtrack immediately. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD!, Feb 22 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Chicago (The Miramax Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
This is a great soundtrack except for the 3 bonus songs, Class, Cell Block Tango (Queen Latifah & LiL' Kim) and Love is a Crime. I love all of the other songs though! Here is my rating of them all.
1. Overature/And All That Jazz- I love this song, Catherine Zeta-Jones has a great voice!

2.Funny Honey- Who would've thought Renee Zellweger could sing!?

3.When You're Good To Mama- Queen Latifah is amazing, and I love the music!

4.Cell Block Tango- Probably my favorite, good lyrics and amazing music!

5.All I Care About Is Love- Richard Gere is good, but on the movie it sounds better for some reason.

6.We Both Reached For The Gun- This is a funny song, I like it!

7.Roxie- Another great song sung by Renee Zellweger!

8.I Can't Do It Alone- On the CD, this song isn't that great because you can't see CZJ dancing, & there aren't many lyrics.

9.Mister Cellophane- A sweet, sad song, John C. Reily is perfect for the song

10.Razzle Dazzle- Razzle Dazzled me!

11.Class- An OK song, didn't blow me away.

13.Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag- Upbeat fun instrumental song!

14.I Move On- There is a reason this song won an Oscar! It was just great!

15.After Midnight- I like this number!

16.Roxie's Suite- I like this number too!

17.He had It Comin'- Awful compared to the original! How did a R&B number get on this CD!?

18.Love is A Crime- Pretty bad too! Why did they put these songs on the CD?

5.0 out of 5 stars Roxie, Feb 12 2004
This review is from: Chicago (The Miramax Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
After watching Chicago I fell in love with it. I normally don't watch musicals like Moulin Rouge but this movie is an acception. I have a couple favorites. My first choice is Roxie, It shows how she is desparetly seeking fame and when she found it, she falls in love. She is an incredible performer. The choreography in movie is simple yet enough for the song. It truely reminded of me of the Jazz period being sexy, smooth and cool. Another one of my favorites is "They Both Reached for the Gun" It stuck in my head the most from all the songs. It has a catchy tune and fun lyrics. I especially love the puppets in the movie. It looked so realistic and at the same time a little bit creepy if I where standing next to one of those reporters.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's all I care about..., Feb 7 2004
This review is from: Chicago (The Miramax Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
Chicago is one of the best films I've ever seen and the soundtrack is the perfect companion to the film. I gave it 5 stars even though the last two tracks I always skip as they aren't featured in the movie and are probably there to appeal to young audiences, but they're unnecessary and not my sort of thing. But those songs couldn't dampen my appreciation for this music for one second. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere along with the ensemble cast including Queen Latifah and John C. Reily have made this production of the soundtrack an awe-inspiring experience. Here's my opinion on each of the songs featured:

1. OVERTURE/AND ALL THAT JAZZ (5/5) One of the standout songs and probably the most well-loved and well-known of all Chicago songs it was important it set the mood for the movie and for Velma to really belt it out. Catherine Zeta-Jones shows off her great musical beginnings in all her numbers, particularly this one, where she makes Velma her own. One of the best produced songs on the soundtrack.

2. FUNNY HONEY (4/5) First song by Renee Zellweger (Roxie) doesn't disappoint, with the sultry desire of Roxie handled just right by Zellweger. It only got 4 stars because it's a slower song, and one that's got to "grow" on the listener. But Renee handles it with class.

3. WHEN YOU'RE GOOD TO MAMA (4/5) Who knew Queen Latifah could belt one out?? Not me until I saw Chicago. But yet this is a standout song, and Latifah handles it well, showing off her brazen voice.

4. CELL BLOCK TANGO (5/5) Most people seem to adore this song and I can see why. It has the catchy hook, the clever lyrics and the thumping bass. Watch out for Mya as a murderess in this. A definite highlight.

5. ALL I CARE ABOUT (4.5/5) Richard Gere: another surprise in the singing stakes. He sounds good, cept here he isn't given much room to show off his voice like in other songs. But he does this song justice, "and then some"!

6. WE BOTH REACHED FOR THE GUN (5/5) Whoever's idea it was to set the scene as Billy Flynn puppeteering Roxie's every move should be rewarded. It works so well that I can't think of the scene being played out any other way now. Billy Flynn has fun on this track that it clever, cunning and everything you believe that Billy Flynn is.

7. ROXIE (4.5/5) After this song, the name on your lips will be "Roxie". Renee's second song is better than the first and you can tell she's fully involved in making Roxie a part of her. A definitive song from the musical.

8. I CAN'T DO IT ALONE (4/5) This song is sort of a little bit strange, because in the movie Catherine is dancing where there's no singing, but of course on a CD you don't have visual so all you hear is "I'd go...", "We'd go..." and the like. Still a fun track if you can remember the scene in the movie and put together the missing pieces.

9. MISTER CELLOPHANE (4.5/5) John C. Reily shines in this heartwrenching song of how no one, least of all his wife Roxie, notices him. John C. Reily portrayes Amos with the "less is more" approach, and it works. He really is the heart of the show.

10. RAZZLE DAZZLE (5/5) My personal favourite, this lets Richard Gere take centre stage of a three-ring circus, showcasing his talents to Roxie and to the listener. A catchy melody with a fitting message, it's a definite standout and like I mentioned, my favourite song from the musical.

11. CLASS (4/5) This was taken out of the director's cut of the movie but luckily appears on the soundtrack. It's a worthwhile song and Catherine and Latifah's vocals gel beautifully here. Not a standout though.

12. NOWADAYS (ROXIE) (4.5/5) Renee belts out the feelings of Roxie Hart in this, her last solo. You can really feel what she's singing about, which is true testament to the talents of Zellweger. The interchange to the theatre is a little odd on CD however.

13. NOWADAYS/HOT HONEY RAG (4.5/5) The final encore where Velma and Roxie realise the evil of their ways and laugh in its face. Halfway through it becomes an instrumental and again it lacks something as we cannot see the brilliant choreography during this part, but the music is just a delight.

14. I MOVE ON (4/5) Played during the credits, it's an original song that fits together the pieces of the show and brings it to a fitting end.
