2.0 out of 5 stars An ok movie
This movie was ok I guess, the boy was a little hick though! :) Kind of sad, kind of sappy-bad actors. I guess the horses were beautiful though, so that at least deserves some stars. I wouldn't recommend rushing out to buy it though, it's not the best movie in the bunch thats for sure!

When these films were released, I recall seeing them in the local Movie Theatre, as they beame available to the public. The sequence of this trilogy returned me once more to my younger years and the good, wholesome family entertainment that was available to everyone. The story line is predictable and the acting is a simple rendition of the script, but it cleverly includes the viewer as more than another someone occupying a seat just to pass the time away.
This DVD Collection was received as promised by the Vendor and the quality of the movie itself, was very good for its era.
It is a 'must see' for both children and adults who have any apprciation of the horse world and the manner in which families adopt horses into their inner circle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Childhood dreams and responsibilities, Jan 3 2003

I have not yet seen the movie but have read this book so many times i have lost count. This is my favourite story and Ken's feelings were close to what I felt growing up. Lots of kids day dream and such was Ken's dream to own his own horse one day. When dream becomes reality, Ken deals with all the ups and downs that must come with responsibility of ownership. I fell in love with Wyoming in my own mind and I am hoping that the movie will live up to my image of Wyoming and Goose Bar Ranch.
A truly heart warming story...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Horse Movie, Mar 14 2002
By
This review is from: My Friend Flicka (VHS Tape)
With beautiful scenery and lots of horses, this is a great family movie. The bond between a boy and his filly is the central theme of "My Friend Flicka," and it would be enjoyed by any horse lover. Although a bit old-fashioned, it is exciting and interesting nevertheless. A shorter, simpler, less mature version of the classic novel, I reccommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great classic, Sep 25 2001

I loved this movie when I was a child. I had not yet read the book. Certain changes were made in the transition from book to film, but I can live with these. Ken's older brother, Howard, was eliminated, and his place was taken by an annoying child-brat named "Hildy," but this is the only complaint I have. This is a beautiful, spiritual film, and can be watched from both a child's and an adult's point of view. The scene where the hero stallion, Banner, saves the mares and foals from running over the cliff, and the scene where Rocket's speed is tested before she is sold, are extremely exciting. The horses are gorgeous and a treat for any horse lover. Preston Foster as Rob and Roddy McDowell as Ken are wonderfully cast. An all-time classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Friend Flicka, Jan 12 2000

This is an all-time classic horse movie. Along with the others in the series which I am trying to get such as"Green Grass of Wyoming" and "Thunderbolt;Son of Flicka" but unfortunately not having much luck. They are all excellent movies not only do I expereince laughter but also a few tears to a not so emotional person. I think it is movies like this one that will never cease their popularity, it would just be nice if they were played more often then what they are. I am in my 20s and I love many of the new movies, but My Friend Flicka will always be a childhood fav.

2.0 out of 5 stars Please call the vet, Dec 23 1999

The horse gets sick, the kid gets sick. Not much before or after. It's fun to see a young Roddy McDowall as the kid, but his character is a limp noodle. If you are looking for a family alternative to the action, shoot-'em-up movies, forget this one and try My Neighbor Totoro.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first movie I ever saw on the big screen, Feb 12 1999
This review is from: My Friend Flicka (VHS Tape)
In 1943, when I was seven years old, my grandmother took me to see this wonderful movie. Wyoming was a distant place, but it was beautiful! Roddy McDowell became my same-age hero. The movie holds up well with time. I'm 63 and I still love it. Great family story! I recommend it highly.
