When I bought this cd, I paid $26.99 for it. And I tell you it was worth every damn penny! These guys are absolutely amazing. Just listen to a song and you'll agree that they are truly the best. I strongly recommend this cd, you won't be disappointed. And if you are, you don't know good music.

Just... Weak.,

Lacks conviction; they obviously had an idea of what they wanted this to sound like, and it proved overly ambitious, because this CD is incredibly generic. I am entirely confused by the other reviewers who proclaim it is a moving experience; it just flat [is bad].

Best Band You've Never Heard (Of),

This review is from: Dream (Audio CD)
This CD is a dynamic and "new" given the genre that it's associated with. Fans of Thursday will feel at home with this band, but make no mistake that OpenHand stands on its own. The sound can be peaceful or rockin', all the while remaining quite dynamic. There is a sense of expressive urgency that's not always present in hardcore music, let alone mainstream rock.Nevermind what to call the hybrid sound of OpenHand, it's just great rock with an edge of both heaviness and passion. GET IT THIS INSTANT!!

2003 Album of the Year.,

in my opinion Open Hand's album "The Dream" is one of the best albums to come out this year. i was surprised when i heard they were on trustkill after i got a sampler from my work. trustkill made a wise choice by taking these guys under thier wings(otherwise, ferret would've gotten them). seriously though, this album is amazing, the first two songs crossfade into each other so well that the first time i listened to it i thought it was still the same song.Open Hand makes for a wonderful work soundtrack and it's good to relax to when i'm not listening to converge. i give it 10 stars not just 5. buy it or download it. it's worth it.

a girl i met at my school gave me my first listen of openhand at first i thought they were alright but the more i listened to them the more i realized how amazing they were. the album is made up of two previously released EPs the first half of the cd is a much better recording than the older second half but i like the older stuff better despite the poorer recording i cant really describe what kind of music open hand is but what ever it is i like it and i think if you give them a try you will toop.s. if you ever get chance to see openhand live do it. the rock like no other.

Disappointing,

I work for a college radio station, and reviewing this CD was my assignment. Open Hand's album comes across as heavily unorganized hardcore-pop. The band struggles to be heard (and deciphered) over lots of guitars and drums, none of which is absolutely terrible but is horribly drowning. I'm sure the lyrics would be appropriately moving if I could have heard them. The CD was actually assembled from two separate EPs. The first five tracks were done recently, and the latter six were done about five years ago. It shows. I enjoyed four particular tracks, three of which are in the aforementioned first tracks: "Life As Is," "11th Street," and "This Is The End." The fourth is "626." Unfortunately, "11th Street" has some completely random swearing at the end in the form of some distorted answering machine message and cannot be played on our radio station. As for the songs I didn't like, there's not much to say other than they're obviously doing what everyone else seems to be doing now -- which wouldn't be so bad if done with some flair of originality. I love the album jacket and the 3-D effect, but too bad it's wasted on such a mediocre band. If you get to have the CD, check out the jacket; just don't buy it simply to check it out.

just...not good really.,

For starters i have no idea why this band is on Trustkill. I know labels have to have a diverse roster...but this sounds really nu-metal (gag) to me...which is not good at all. I guess Open Hand is trying do do some sort of rock in the vein of HUM (one of the greatest bands ever...) but they really arent good at it. I really tried to like this band but they aren't good. The lyrics are cheesy too. Musically i dont get this album...it seems like its trying to combine genres but doenst to it well. The drumming is almost straight hardcore, the guitars/bass remind me of pop punk and numetal, and the singer...just doesnt fit at all. Plus the random acoustic guitars aren't well placed/needed. This band seems to have a lot of potential but i really am not into this album at all. Maybe some other time.

If there is one band on the Trustkill Records roster that deftly illustrates the label's diversity and ability to spot exciting music other than the incredible hardcore that it has built its reputation upon, it's definitely Open Hand. This Orange County band isn't typical Orange County fare, ie. pop punk and moshcore. 'The Dream' is all push-n-pull, a harmonically distorted distortion of the best qualities of emo and hardcore and pop punk. Shades of all these genres color the vivid The Dream. The album effortlessly changes moods several times throughout, with plenty of contemplative, almostepic moments at the center. Each song is so lush and layered, that one song literally bleeds right into the next. Check out the way 'The Struggle' melts into 'Thought Process' with beautiful, seamless ease. That's no small task orminor accomplishment or easy feat for a band with emotional and heavy tendencies, but Open Hand does it with such oomph, you'd think writing this type of complex music was a joyous day at the beach for Open Hand's players.Vocalist Justin is just that: a vocalist whose clean singing is the tie that binds all the other elements of The Dream. We don't want to wake up after 'In Your Eyes' , 'The Dream' , 'The Struggle' , '11th Street' and 'Radio Days'.

This year is going to bring us MANY great releases from A Static Lullaby to Vendetta Red to Poison the Well, but THIS, this cd is kicking my ... !! Open Hand have possibly created one of the most perfet cd's for 2003. Sure you're going to disagree, but that's why we all have opinions. From the opening song "In Your Eyes" to the ferocity the title track "The Dream" brings to the dynamics of "The Struggle", you're not going to be sorry for making this purchase. if I could personally GUARANTEE you your money back if you weren't satisfied I would, but I have aan odd feeling that you're not going to want your money back. Just a hunch.
