A beautiful gem of a movie,
By
This review is from: A Little Romance (Widescreen) (DVD)
I was sorry to have missed this when it came out (in 1979 when I was 18), then forgot about it for many years. The other day I saw a picture of Diane Lane, and remembered this movie, and decided it would be a good family film that my wife and 2 oldest kids (girl 12, boy 15) would enjoy. It was indeed. I don't have much to add to the glowing reviews others have already given it here; I'll just note that 1) There are so many subtle grace notes that repeated viewings will be well repaid What really makes the movie a classic is bullseye performers by ALL the actors. The hardest kind of character for an actor to play is an extremely intelligent one, only very intelligent actors can do it, and the two leads are up to it. (Too bad the scriptwriter uses the word "etymological" once when he means "ontological", it is the kind of mistake Lauren would never have made, but this is the tiniest possible blemish, and no movie this rich can avoid having a handful of forgivable glitches).

First love made to last,
By
This review is from: Little Romance, a (VHS Tape)
Set in France and Italy and deluged with picturesque scenery, and with Laurence Olivier playing a fairy (ahem) godfather, this charming love story is made to last forever. This is Diane Lane's debut movie (the young girl who falls in love with a Frenchman). Combined with Sally Kellerman's wonderful role as the off-the-wall mom, this little romance turns into a film for the ages.Watch it, weep, and smile. Have some chocolate and go to bed with a lover.

As wonderful as Venice at sunset when the bells toll...,
By
This review is from: A Little Romance (Widescreen) (DVD)
This has to be one of the most under-appreciated movies of all time. George Roy Hill had directed two of the best comedies of the late 60s-early 70s, Butch Cassidy... and The Sting. Then he made this little gem. I don't care if I never see the other two again, but I'll watch A Little Romance at least once a month until the tape breaks or the disc has a hole in it.Two lonely teenagers in Paris, a street-wise French boy and a sheltered American girl, both of whom are hiding their genius IQs in order to fit in, fall in love and realize how lucky they are to have found each other. With help from a romantic old con artist (Lawrence Olivier at his best; he should have done more comedy), they run away to Venice to make their love last forever. They have a wonderful adventure, and along the way, Hill pokes fun at American tourists, pays tongue-in-cheek homage to his own great movies, and shows us how wonderful life can be when you're different.

Bingo!,

Just a beautiful movie. Every scene is its own little masterpiece. I have tried, via the useful technology of DVD, to catch only a scene or two over morning coffee. Twice now, I have ended up watching the rest of the movie. If you are uncomfortable getting misty-eyed in front of others, watch this movie alone. There are few works that I can think of that are as thrilling as this movie.

A Little Romance (Widescreen),

A sleeper ...... one of my favourite movies; I've watched it many times. Excellent plot; great acting; scenic. For the sentimental and the romantic. Will take you back to your first love. Suited for a mature audience (due its lack of fights, sex, intense action) and it will likely bore the younger crowd (pre-teen).

If you've ever wanted to bring a little romance into your life, this is the film that does it. Viewable by all ages, adults will adore it for how first love was for them, while teens will be moved by the chance love can bring to them.

A Little Romance is one of those films that once you see it, it will stay with you forever. It is nothing but mesmerising, touching, funny honest, gentle, beautiful. This is a film made for every age. Diane Lane,Therlonious Bernard, Laurence Olivier are fantastic. The scenary of Venis is absolutely beautiful and there's something about the film that gentle and honest. Diane Lane like always is excellent. There's always something about Diane, you can see in her performances that she is older than her years, which I adore about her. Diane is just gorgeous as always. I definitely recommend this film to anyone that wants a little romance in their lives.By Justine Ryan

Don't miss this movie.I fell in love with this film in the early 80's when they ran it on cable and I've been waiting anxiously for it to be released on DVD. This one is in my list of best movies of all time. Diane Lane and Thelonious Bernard are brilliant and as always, Lawrence Olivier is not to be missed.

This movie epitomizes romance and first love. The scenery of Italy enhances the movie with its enchanting musical score and memorable conclusion. Although Diane Lane will most likely win Best Actress this year for her role in the movie, Unfaithful, this is her best role.

The cutest movie ever,

I love this movie. It's definitely one of my favorites. Laurence Olivier is awesome (of course). Diane Lane hasn't changed a bit since she was a kid. She still looks exactly the same. And Thelonious Bernard is absolutely adorable. You just fall in love with him more every time you watch this movie.
