5.0 out of 5 stars Only the Best for the Best
A refreshing new sound. A start to bringing the golden age of music back to the airwaves. Michael in phenomenal. I saw him in the movie Totally Blonde and not only can he sing, but act as well. He is the total package, a triple threat if you will. His voice carries through all ages. This CD gives you the feeling that love and romance will never die. Great Job!

2.0 out of 5 stars imitative and shallow, but promising
I first heard cuts from this album while shopping at a bookstore, specifically "Come Fly With Me" and "The Way You Look Tonight." My opinion was and is that he has a good voice, excellent pitch and an obvious affection for the genre, but there was a lack of convicition and style a la Sinatra or Sammy Davis Jr.

I'm disappointed with most of the rest,...

I'm disappointed with most of the rest, especially "Crazy Little Thing" because of the echoplex or reverb. If he's just going to be imitative, why bother? Why not do something different? He's got a good voice and a capable backup band...
I think that may be the fault of producer David Foster, who took the group Chicago from innovative to syrupy in a very short time.

I'm not happy at spending $20 and getting so little for my money (which I spent based on exposure to two of the best cuts). However, He's got potential, and I look forward to having someone to help erase my memory of Sinatra's pitch problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Young Man's Art, Nov 16 2003

Breathing new life into a type of music that Sinatra sang and Nelson Riddle conducted takes a heck of a lot of breath support and support is what this Michael Buble's CD seemed to have in the making of it. David Foster producing, Paul Anka executive producing, Barry Gibbs singing back-up, Mandel, Foster, and Costa arranging. Whoa! It didn't hurt to plug a few power cords into these legendary sources.
Unequivocally and indubitably, this is a new sound coming out of an otherwise vintage music type. Buble's voice displays the confidence and emotional range which are qualities often only mastered by old-time craggy crooners. Often, the cruel irony in music is that by the time you learn how to sing and life experiences provides you with something to say, your voice wears out. But apparently Buble's wine has aged before he did. His voice is strong and vital. And all the technicals are there--amazing breath support, super control, fine-tune pitch, mellifluous tone. And he doesn't sing with a tight throat like Sinatra.
Buble's phrasing is Carmen McRae quality. McRae always had the ultimate respect for the word and so does Buble. Words have endings and Buble finishes them off nicely without a pedantic harshness. Then, like McRae, Buble puts the words together and tells a story. The magnificent singer not only effectively conveys a musical idea, but also attaches a verbal idea to it. The result is rich.
This Buble CD incorporates newer songs with the usual standards and its a real nice blend. The offering of songs are varied yet connective--that has got to come from a strong sense of who Buble is and what he can do. Apparently, he can do a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Generation's Sinatra. Bublé rules!, Nov 11 2003

All I ever heard from my dad is that Sinatra 'ruled' - well maybe in his day. Today it's Bublé all the way for me.
For me, a 17 yr. old to find myself TOTALLY blown away by this music is just so cool. Michael has 'swayed' my thinking. I think it's the first time ever that my dad thought my choice of music was good.

I hope he plays in Vancouver or Seattle soon. All my girlfriends and I will be there.

5.0 out of 5 stars GRAMMY award winner? Bet on it!, Nov 10 2003

This cd must be recognized! It's flawless and beautiful to listen to. Having had the good fortune to hear M.B. sing live I knew his first major release would impress! And M.B. doesn't disappoint. Incredible rich vocals....M.B. has the most pleasing voice I've EVER heard. Sorry Sinatra, you were my #1 until now.

Producers Foster, Anka and Gattica show their talents as well - to take the variety of songs they did and make each song sound as if they were just written for M.B. takes some kind of skill.
Orchestrations are beautiful and just the greatest compliment to the making of beautiful music.

Bublé, Foster, et al - you've created a winner - please give us more & soon!! (I'd love to hear M.B. & Norah or Krall duet)

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, Nov 3 2003
This review is from: Michael Bublé (Audio CD)
For me it was great to see anyone in the music industry taking someone seriously on this kind of music. Since Harry Connick Jr. there hasn't been anyone else, in my opinion, who comes close to singing these old classics the way Frank, Dean, Sammy or Tony had. I would like to thank whomever is responsible for the great arrangements such as George Michael's kissing a fool, Van Morrison's moon dance and the BG's "how to mend a broken heart" to mention a few,( as well as the rest of the CD ),to showcase Michael's wide and diverse singing range. Though I must say that his second CD did not have the same effort from the arrangement people as his first one, still, Michael comes through with another Great effort. Hopefully more people will get on the band wagon and give this young man all the help he richley deserves to reach his destiny.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's truly an American Idol!!!, Oct 28 2003

Since the day I bought this cd, about a month ago, I have not removed it from my cd player. I just love this young man's voice, suitable for the music genre he represents. The song selections and arrangements on the cd are perfect for Buble's velvety vocals. It's an engaging and enjoyable cd that I will probably have with me if stuck on a remote island by myself. Buble's truly "American Idol" material even though he's Canadian. Buy this cd and you too will be hooked!!!!
