5.0 out of 5 stars Bravo Gerard!!
Gerard is fabulous in this one. It's a heart warming picture about two characters with very different personalities, forced together in human circumstance. Five stars!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful American remake
This is a very poor remake of a Canadian film called "Les Noces de Papiers". If you can get hold of the original, you will not regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming little film, April 10 2003

For those unfamiliar with Gérard Depardieu, GREEN CARD is a charming introduction. Good performances from both Depardieu and Andie MacDowell, and Bebe Neuwirth is delightful in a supporting role. When things get "unfair", the reminders that the central marriage of convenience is illegal are refreshing.

The DVD is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen with both English and French Dolby 5.1 audio tracks. No extras, but even so an excellent bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars "when are you coming, cherie?", Feb 15 2003

a fantastic surprise of a romantic comedy involving two mismatched people embarking on a marriage of convenience and a planned quickie divorce who, of course, fall in love to their surprise and seemingly too late. of course, gerard depardieu commands the movie but andie mcdowell is perfectly cast as his tightly wound counterpart. one of the all time greatest, most romantic endings that features great acting from both stars, especially depardieu. an oddly fulfilling ending, even though it leaves you longing for a sequel. what a great little sleeper of a movie this is, with an equally strong soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Endlessly entertaining, and Andie MacDowell is enchanting, Aug 29 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Green Card (VHS Tape)
I never tire of this movie, watching it probably five or six times a year. Here is absolutely enchanting Andie MacDowell of the subtle Southern accent and prim Peter-Pan-collar blouses, who is happily single and dating but wants a penthouse-cum-greenhouse in a New York City co-op and needs to present herself to the co-op board as a married, dependable type. And here is somewhat bumbling and beastly although undeniably sexy Gerard Depardieu, supposedly a French composer of African-inspired music, who has a shady history and strange tatoo and wants to marry for a green card. The ending of the movie always makes me cry, no matter how many times I've seen it. Oh, the way that Gerard Depardieu looks at her after The Kiss! One of my all-time favorite movies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well done but no surprise, May 20 2003
This review is from: Green Card (DVD)
It's not a holywoodian love story. It's a simple story of 2 people meeting "randomly" - with some fun, some sadness, some laughs and some love.
Good picture, good film, but not that more.

5.0 out of 5 stars I shall be waiting for your letter, Cherie..., Jun 15 2002

What a great movie...very funny and very romantic! Illegal alien Gerard Depardieu marries American gardener Andie MacDowell for his Green Card in this absolutely charming comedy. The INS is investigating their marriage to make sure it's for real. Depardieu's got that puppy-dog face that women find irresistable; Andie's goal-oriented modern woman has a sweet, vulnerable side. The scene where they take "honeymoon" photos is really cute. You'll be cheering (and crying!) at the end. Both stars give unforgettable performances and the script is delightful. A wonderful "date movie!"

I caught this one by accident on TV. I had never heard or it or about it. I was taken in and captivated by this one immediatly. This is the best romantic comedy ever made. I have seen it maybe 20 times and never tire of watching it. If you liked "Youve got Mail" or "Sleepless in Seatle" you'll love this one because it's better!

Ever since I saw this wonderful film I have always dreamed of somebody making Green Card 2, in which Bronte follows Georges to France.

Also, I would love to see the film coming out in DVD format!

I saw this movie on HBO when I was sick and there was nothing else on. I ended up getting hooked to it. It is so romantic. The ending is the best part. I always cry. I can't help it. It is so moving. Buy this movie and you won't regret it.

This is a sweet and funny film about two strangers, Bronte (Andie McDowell) and Georges (Gerard Depardieu)who agree to marry to keep Georges from being deported. Before they know it, they encounter immigration and have to live together in order to give the premise that they are happily married. It is when these two are forced to live together, that they begin to fall in love! This movie is a lot of fun to watch and Gerard Depardieu is terrific!
