1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work correctly.
Item was not wrapped appropriately for shipping. When playing a game, the device would reset in the middle of a game, causing one to lose all the playing they had accomplished. When contacting the seller, she was rude in her response and not willing to discuss possible return.

5.0 out of 5 stars Way Better than GBA!!!, Dec 8 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Game Boy Advance SP - Platinum (CD-ROM)
The SPs controls are much easier to use, plus the built in light makes late night game play possible. Gameboy Advance SPs are only 100 bucks now, so if you're planning on buying a Gameboy, get SP.

NINTENDO
to much fun

4.0 out of 5 stars Portable but comfort is so-so, Oct 27 2003
This review is from: Game Boy Advance SP - Platinum (CD-ROM)
Let's do a background check of my exerience with gameboy systems. I've got all the past models except for the non-colour screens with a pretty colourful casing. =P

I still use my game boy colour! hee hee because the Gameboy Advance looked like Sega's portable system... was it genesis? ^_^; I've never owned a Sega system in my life. It was really bad since it was difficult with soo much lighting/glare! It's pretty comfortable compared to this item.

The Gameboy Advance SP (GBA sp) is portable and cute. I like the new design of the screen folding up/down like the new cell phones that Samsung has! <3 The screen is smaller than GBA but heck that screen was all glare. The "L" and "R" buttons are at the top corners which is quite awkward for big and small hands. I have small hands and it is not that comfortable to play for a long time like the original Gameboy (colour) design. The angle of how you hold GBA Sp and how long your nails are can be an issue. As a girl, I have long nails (I'm too lazy to cut them...) and find it difficult to have my fingers actually on the buttons. If my nails are too long, I won't be able to press the buttons with my fingers, using my nails as alternatives (think of playing the violin).

Well that's my ranting review. I'd use it for short travellings like subways but for hour-long trips stick to the original Gameboy design <3 ^_^

4.0 out of 5 stars Backlighting makes it worthwhile..., Nov 2 2004

Anyone who owned this units predecessor, I hope, can appreciate the ability to actually see the godforsaken screen. On my old GBA, unless I was under direct lighting I found it nearly impossible to enjoy the much-touted superior graphics of the GBA (to Gamboy Color). Needless to say, I had to purchase a light/cover that made my GBA twice as bulky and caused it to drain the batteries about 1/3 faster than normal. I found that little twisty light(dont know its proper name) no be not much better as it required much fiddling with to get it perfectly aligned.

Admittedly, the configuration of the L+R buttons are a chore to contend with on some games in particular but I find it a lot easier to get used to than squinting at the screen. The fact that it sacrificed comfort, to an extent, in exchange for increased portability has also blunted my criticisms on this point.

Furthermore, although the original GBA did not chew up batteries and spit them out on a daily basis it is still infinitely more cost-effective than the old model. And, from an environmental standpoint, much cleaner than the old one.

100% worth the trade-in for my old model due to portablility, backlighting and rechargeability.

2.0 out of 5 stars GameBoy Advance SP, Oct 22 2003

Hi i've played with the new Gameboy Advance SP and really its not worth the money at all, Nintendo have just made another desperate bid to boost profits by creating a slightly modified product. The small design is uncomfortable for adult gamers, the buttons are too close and this modification will decrease your gaming experience. No earphone jack is completely annoying, now u can't play u'r favorite games while commuting for example, without disturbing strangers, and the backlight is not great either. The battery life is however a great improvement but really who plays the device for 18hrs, really a couple of Duracell AA's last for ages. Plus the system has the same spec's as the original GameBoy Advance, graphics, speed of processor, etc. are all the same. Not worth the $149.99, just buy or keep the original one.

3.0 out of 5 stars GameBoy Advance SP, Aug 27 2003

I have played on a friends SP and to be honest i do not think it is very comfortable. True, it is smaller and more compact than its predessessor, but it has its drawbacks. I have heard that you have to pay extra for a headphone socket (although it may only be roumour). An integrated backlight you don't really need, i bought one for my advance, it only cost £4.99 and does not use 2 AAA batteries. Another thing is the rechargeable battery. You can buy an adaptor for around £5, a car adaptor for around £5, and a charger for around £10.
All in all, i do not think there is much need for one, it takes the same games, fits in your pocket just like the advance and i think it is just another way for nintendo to make more money because of people who have to have the latest in fashion.
