1.0étoiles sur 5 I Wonder What the Wind Would Say, Jui 14 2004
Par V. Marshall (North Fork, CA USA) - Voir tous mes commentaires
(REAL NAME)
First of all I will say that the importance of the concept for this film is necessary and much overlooked. The involvement of American Indians in war is sadly left out of too many history books.

I was hoping this film would be better than it turned out to be. The historical facts should be recoginized along side all of the other celebrations of war heroes. Sadly this film was a complete bomb. The direction was predictable and the action scenes could have been shot by a five year old boy playing "war hero" in the backyard, alot of noise and piles of dust and actors pretending to be dead. All this with the constant drone of a musical score best left for a karoke bar to hum along to.

And what happened to Nicolas Cage? He used to be a great actor with individual style and presentation. It seems that he just keeps slipping away. I just was not convinced of his "hero" ability in this film....and his death scene is almost the most horrendous I have ever witnessed, not for the gore or emotional impact, but because it was simply awful acting!

1.0étoiles sur 5 Skip this one!, Avril 18 2004
Par AdamYYZ (Toronto, Canada) - Voir tous mes commentaires
I really like war movies, but this one was hard for me to sit through. The concept of the movie was fine but the movie was so poorly done. The battle scenes were cheesy and unrealistic. The musical score was like a cheap action movie. I would avoid this one like the plague.

1.0étoiles sur 5 Needs more Navajo talking, Avril 12 2004

Why is it called Windtalkers? It only has about 2 scenes of Navajo talking. When I saw it I thought it going to have a lot of code in it. This movie should be called Notalkers!

If you really want to find out more about this film, go to the "See All Reviews" link at the end of the following reviews, select the link, and when the next page appears, Select "Lowest Reviews First" in the dialogue box. Then, hit the "Go" button. Needless to say, all of the reviews you'll see at that point say how awful this movie is much better than I can.

Incidentally, as of this writing, the VHS version of "Windtalkers" is going for $1.20.

1.0étoiles sur 5 Windtalkers, Fév 18 2004
Par Un client
Disappointing to say the least. This WAS NOT a factual film....this was an insult to the Brave Men who gave their lives and saved thousands. The Navjo Windtalkers were the deciding factor in the Pacific Theater and their Nation should be given a formal apology by this entire nation as well as Nicolas Cage and John Woo. Both have lost a devout fan...how sad! Windtalkers is a disgrace!

1.0étoiles sur 5 It blowed up real good!!, Fév 14 2004
This review is from: Windtalkers (VHS Tape)
I love World War II action films, but I can't tell you how much I hated this movie. There's absolutely nothing redeemable about it. From the bottom up, everything about this film is wrong.

To use an analogy, this film is like a $500,000.00 home in Malibu built from clapboard, thrown away furniture crates, and discarded soda bottles.

I'm not going to go into the specifics, all I'll say is that this film has nothing to do with an accurate portrayal of history, or any reality in this dimension!!

The acting stinks, the actions sequences are laugable, and the main characters seem about as real as Bert and Ernie. The pyrotechnics are so unreal, I half expected that guy from Second City to appear on screen and say, "It blowed up real good!"

If I were a Navajo code-talker, or even a relative of one, I would be totally insulted at some of the insinuations that this movie makes. It's too bad that these brave men couldn't have been honored with a more accurate picture of their heroism.

1.0étoiles sur 5 Remake of the Old War movies !, Janv. 20 2004
The terrible soundtrack, the story, the plot made me remember some of the Old war movies like those with John Wayne, Richard Burton and other famous actors of the same period. Sometimes I even found Nicolas Cage very bad, even laughable. The fights with the Japanese are quite funny..kind of when you think they are all dead, there is more. The end of the movie is laughable. Nicolas Cage carries on his back one of the indian soldiers while the Japanese are shouting all over the place.A scene 10 000 times seen in movies. I will not forget to say that it's full of cliches about honour, pride...They are all real men in this flick and they are all american of course. John Wayne could have been great in this one.

1.0étoiles sur 5 Wow, Janv. 12 2004
I bought this movie hoping that it might be good. I was dead wrong. this is the worst movie i have ever seen. This movie seems like a comedy the way cage tries to act. Since when does a thompson hold fifty rounds? See U-571 if you want a good code movie.

1.0étoiles sur 5 Oh, Brother..., Janv. 5 2004
Par Michael Crane (Orland Park, IL USA) - Voir tous mes commentaires
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
I knew that going into this movie that it wasn't going to be great. After hearing all of the terrible reviews and hearing people after people express their disliking of the movie, I knew that it wasn't going to be pretty. Still, I was watching the movie with the impression that if it was a terrible war movie, it'd still make an entertaining action flick--well, I couldn't had been more wrong. As this was a TERRIBLE movie on all fronts. "Windtalkers" is a horribly flawed movie with very little positive in it, if any.

The movie is centered around WWII. Navajo soldiers are used to transmit codes that the Japanese can't understand or decipher. Such a code-talker is Ben Yahzee. Sergeant Joe Enders is ordered to watch over him and make sure nothing happens to the code... and to insure that the Navajo soldier doesn't fall into enemy hands.

Directed by John Woo, this so-called "action film" is so clichéd and rancid. The script is wishy-washy and has not a trace of emotional power to it. The movie is melodramatic in every way, shape and form. Not to mention that the film has some of the most god awful acting I have ever seen from Nicholas Cage. I never thought it'd be possible to see him in a terrible movie and watch him do such a horrible job, but that day has come. I do not exaggerate when I tell you this; this is the worst acting ever from Cage. When he "flips out" and unleashes his "violent-furry" against the Japanese soldiers in an earlier war scene, you actually laugh at the way over-the-top expressions on his face. I do admit that the movie has some cool action sequences, but there is nothing that can save this rancid movie. It would've been a lot better had the film dealt more with the actual Navajo code-talkers and the actual process that went behind it all.

I really thought that I'd like the movie if I took it as an action movie, rather than a war picture. However, I was very much mistaken. It took me three times to actually get through this movie. I almost wanted to cry because it was so awful. It's as bad as "Pearl Harbor," if not worse. I just want to ask John Woo, "Why? Why, oh why, John?!" He should definitely stick to regular action movies.

"Windtalkers" is a must-miss flop of cinematic garbage with almost no redeeming value to it. Stay away from this movie at all cost. There are so many other great movies out there that deserve your time. I can't even recommend this as a last resort. While I'm sure that there are people who enjoyed this movie, I have to say that I loathed almost every second of this uninspiring thing that's supposed to be called a "movie."
