A STEP AWAY FROM DESTINY,
By Kenneth (San Antonio, Tx) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dangerously in Love (Audio CD)
I don't think Beyonce could have come out with a better cd to set her apart from Destiny's child to emerge as a spectacular solo album....well at least i think. When you listen you can tell she made a strict effort to make sure it did not sound like another Destiny's Child album. Obviously "Crazy In Love" is a VERY catchy, radio-friendly song that you would strangle someone just to get the hook out of your head, but you learn the depths of her as an artist/songwriter and becoming a women in the seductive and sexy "Speechless", and the old-school groove of "Be With You". You also need to keep in mind that Beyonce is an executive producer on the Cd and wrote/co-wrote almost the entire album. "Baby Boy" the 3rd track on the album is DEFINITELY a certified hit single and great club song. "Hip Hop Star" is a very different kind of song, not one of my favorites but it has it's own type of funky offbeat upbeat vibe. "Signs" a Missy Elliot collaboration is a nice slow groove song....signature Missy and very creatively written. "Dangerously In Love 2" the album's title track is also wonderfully written. Even though it can be heard on Destiny's Child "Survivor" album and is pretty much just a remixed version of the DC version, it STILL makes you feel the heart and emotion she poured into writing that song. You can definitely hear that she FEELS this song in her voice. I could comment on EVERY song but the one I think needs to made known more than any other is the soft yet hard "Yes". Beyonce is taking a stand against a new companion tryin to get into her pants before she's ready. Could very well be a new way to look at pop music or create yet another new blended genre of music all its own. Here's my rating for all of the songs...1. "Crazy In Love" - 8/10

The leading force of Destiny Child family has matured in this album,

When this album came out half the world probably was waiting for it and the other half could of careless. When I heard it was coming out I thought it was going to be a bunch of mess coming from this lead singer. I mean we've seen her say "No No No" and ask her man can he pay her bills, from telephone bills to the Automo-BILLs. She wanted her man to say her name, and then he turn out to be a Bug-a -Boo. But when she got fed up she left her man @ home and went to the club and got "Jumpin Jumpin" She came out on top because she is a "Survivor." Then she got very "Bootylicious." With all of the good things happening, she then let "Emotion" take her over. Then she starred in Austin Powers: Gold member. We saw her "Work It Out." Clearly being on top of the world made her "Dangerously In Love!" for her long time boyfriend. She didn't stop there no-sir-rey because she felt extremely confident with herself which lead her to prance around in the film "The Pink Panther" (which I hate) giving her lover a special tease with "Check on It." (Of course that's not how it All went down that was just a quick overview.)But Imagine to my surprise to hear this album. Although very ballad-heavy, it is obvious that Beyonce still loves a great up-tempo beat (and the rock-feel of 'hip hop star'). Her collaborations with other artists (Missy, Jay-Z, Big Boi, Sean Paul, LUTHER!) are impressive and show a depth and maturity that you probably would not have imagined the young lady having. Beyonce once said in an interview that she wanted to make the album seem timeless. Several of the tracks have a very 70's "Age of Aquarius" feel to them, but she shows her range and talent throughout the album. "Baby Boy" with Sean Paul is my favorite because he is the prince of dance-hall. Even if you don't like her lyrics (which come a long way from "Bootylicious"), you'll love her ever-hypnotic beats. Beyonce clearly demonstrates her vocals well on this album. The collection of songs will easily take you for a ride inside your mind and maybe down to your heart. Definitely worth looking into if you haven't already. For a solo artist who has left a group proves she is not hurting. Beyonce really knows how to work it on her own.

Undeniably talented in the areas of songwriting, production, and singing, Beyonce is just a talent that makes the word talent stand so true.Dangerously in Love thus far as sold over 8,000,000+. That's a statistic that shows that she is appreciated and the quality of the album is unbreakable. How can you deny this album as a great R&B album? Everything from "Crazy in Love" to "Daddy" is just treasurable. And songs like "Yes", "The Closer I Get To You", and "Gift From Virgo" are just stand outs. This album stands proof of Beyonce w/o DC in reference to her individuality and spark to music. With the group or without the group, she is her own star that shines bright.

I'm so adicted to Beyoncé. I'm her number 1 fan! Beyoncé has to be my favorite performer. She is a very talented actress, writer, dancer, and this cd proves that she is also a very talented singer. Dangerously In Love has all the positive aspects that people look for in a cd. From the pop vibe of Crazy In Love to the sexy, danchall flow of Baby Boy to the more slow, vocal balads such as Speechless and Dangerously In Love 2. The album was very well put together with the help of Scott Storch, Jay-Z, and daddy himself, Mathew Knowles.Crazy In Love - Booty Hopping, Fun Time Song Naughty Girl - Sexy, Upbeat Song Baby Boy - Danchall flow w/ Sean Paul Hip Hop Star - Pop/Rock track w/ Hip Hop flow from Big Boi of Outkast & Sleepy Brown Be With You - Exellent, Slow song w/ Great Vocal Skills Me, Myself and I - Beyoncé's tribute to a woman who can make it on her own; Very niceYes - Pretty Good, Slow Song Signs - Beyoncé's ode to all 12 astrological signs w/ vocals from Missy Elliott; Great Song but many people don't like it Speechless - This song proves Beyoncé is the greatest singer out there; STRONG, POWERFUL VOCAL SKILLS! That's How You Like It - Cute, Innocent Song w/ Jay-Z The Closer I Get To You - Duet w/ Luther, very nice; very popular with the older crowd Dangerously In Love 2 - POWERFUL VOCAL SKILLS YET AGAIN! Remake of Destiny's Child song from the album "Survivor" Beyoncé Interlude - It's an interlude. Beyoncé has a nice talking voice Gift From Virgo - Emotional, Touching song with the words "I Love You" repeated at the end; Very Nice!! Daddy [Hidden Track] - Sweet ode to her father Mathew Knowles (her manager) A+ Job Beyoncé!!

and even this is too much, really...,

Just another conceited airhead with no intelligence and looks that blind people into thinking that she's the biggest thing to happen to music spewing out the same old crap, just oversinging her words and saying nothing. Most of this album has everyone and their grandma guesting on it. If she truly is what she and everyone else says she is, can't she do ANYthing by herself??? Alicia Keys can. Tori Amos can. Lauryn Hill (where ARE you when we need you?) could. India.Arie and Ashanti are the only girls in R&B that I care to listen to because they keep it positive and are real females and have talent. Otherwise, females in R&B have just gone down the drain, and that's why I don't even bother to listen to women too much (or R&B), cause they seem to have nothing to say besides doing that played-out booty dance. Listen to rock music, listen to jazz (Diana Krall and Norah Jones especially), listen to ANYTHING but this overrated garbage. Remember when R&B used to mean something? Marvin Gaye, Aretha, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, all those people not only were truly soulful but were deep as well. I don't see how that girl won all those awards for this...oh well, I guess style will trump substance every time. And as long as it does, R&B music will continue its downward spiral with people like her representing it and I'll continue to listen to people from other genres or older music, because that's when artists were truly artists and music was really music.

I didn't care too much for Beyonce before this solo thing occured. Now I just love her new album and career. It was a good album, something i can just put on and listen to from start to finish, not many albums out there like that! Overall she's proved herself as a very talented artist. She's proved that no matter what lengths people may go through to get u down you can still succeed in life. I wish her the best!!
