One of the best albums I've ever heard,

This album is absolutely awesome, and has something for everyone. It brings together R&B, Rap, and Jazz with socially conscious lyrics. There is not a single song that I don't like on it. Fergie, the newcomer to this group, definately adds a new feel to this album.1) Hands up - a high energy start to the album. The saxophone on this song is very jazzy, and has the whole song has a bit of a retro feel. 2) Labor Day - Pure Fun. You can really dance to this song. 3) Let's Get Retarded - This song starts out by saying that it means no disrespect (look up the lyrics if you're concerned about it) Actually, it uses "retarded" to describe losing control of your body when you dance. Anybody who listens to more than just the chorus of this song would realize this. 4) Hey Mama - Has a latin, almost jamaican, feel. Sounds a little like Sean Paul's "Get Busy." Fun song. 5) Shut Up - Fergie shines on this song! More pop sounding than the rest of the album, but it still has a groove. Fergie's vocals alone make this song worth listening to. Beautiful. 6) Smells like Funk - This also has a retro feel to it. Nothing particularly spectacular about this song, but it's still solid. 7) Latin Girls - Very latin feel to this one. Another fun song to dance to. 8) Sexy - Funktastically Beautiful Song. They did a nice job mixing the piano into this slower song. 9) Fly Away - This song is my absolute favorite - Fergie really shines on this one. A wonderfully free song... you just have to hear it. 10) The Boogie that Be - Mostly rap, with a classic sound to it. 11) The Elephunk Theme - An exotic song, with melodies that sound middle-eastern or Indian, blended with aggressive rap. 12) The Apl Song - An calming song, with beautiful melodies. 13) Anxiety - Aggressive rap on top of a some rocking guitar. 14) Where is the Love - This is a little longer than the radio cut. 15) Hidden Track - I don't know what this one is called, but it's a nice song. It's slow, soft, and sexy with rap verses blended into a melodic chorus.

Could have been way better,

I know this album could have been iller than this, I mean, its the Black Eyed Peas! Some songs were undoubtedly good, but theres something missing about the songs. Weird..I dont what it is though. I don't really like it, but if you do buy it you won't hate it either.

This is the best dance/funk CD that I've heard in a while. I'm not into urban very much, but I love this album. I enjoy the Peas' top 40 hits, especially "Let's get retarded". The one, non-charting hit that especially impressed me is "The boogie that be". It's got a fantastic beat and I really dig those funky sirens. They totally make the song! Although it's a very basic dance track that doesn't have a lot of instrumentation, it has such a great sound that totally makes up for it! It reminds me of Daft Punk's "Face to face", off their album "Discovery". If you liked "Boogie that be" you will love "Face to face". Anyway, Elephunk is an excellent CD. Get it, play it, love it!!!

I bought this cd for my niece and I ended up listening to it more often. It is not so much about the offensive lyrics that some of the songs have that I did not let my niece listen to it but because I genuinely like this album. This is refreshing as oppose to most of the gangsta rap and those bling, bling, bling mediocre rap that dominates the airwave and mtv. Metal rap is okay since it provides outlet for those teenager angst that every teenager goes through as long as there is this label for explicit lyrics. Four stars for this album since 1)I think it is so irresponsible for them not to put a warning and 2)there were two songs that are just filler, other than these reasons this is THE PARTY album. You can help but shake and sing along.BEP could still make it through the mainstrean arena without the help of Mr.J.T. with this fine crafted album but then, you get by with a little help from your friends.

Before Elephunk, I hadn't even heard of the Black Eyed Peas. Now, they're everywhere. With 4 smashing hits, and tons of great songs on their CD, the Black Eyed Peas have landed.1. Hands Up: 8.5/10

Ok so I usually read these things, trying to base my purchase with the rating systems. But when I check up on one of my favorite albums and saw that there were only four stars. I had to speak up, this album has everything you want and need. If you like Jaz with a little rap in it you have it, if you like Indie music with a little rap in it you have it, if you like Alternative with a little rap in it you have it.I also must say that if you need an album with great bass this cd has it. I love this cd and it has been in my car blasting itself away through the highways of Montreal. So stop reading this crappy review and purchase it. I guarantee you are going to like this album. ;)

I bought this CD for my kid and NO EXPLICIT CONTENT LABEL!!! There are MAJOR swears in "Hey Mama" and other songs. Great songs, poor words P.S. Don't expect to find "Let's Get It Started on any of their CD's. It's really "Lets Get Retarted". |
