5.0 out of 5 stars My 16-month old loves this video!
My 16-month old loves rubber duckies and I bought this in an effort to find the Ernie classic, "rubber duckie you're the one". It's not on here, but it didn't matter because my son loves "Put Down the Duckie". Loves it. It's all he wants to watch. He's relentless, but I'm limiting him to just once a day, and then only a few of the segments. He will watch the entire...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Tunes, Bad Skits
My one year old son loves the song "Put Down the Duckie" so much that we sing it in the tub. (I sing; he holds up the duckie.) There were other very entertaining musical performances on the video as well.
The skits on the other hand were absolutely pointless. (Sorry, Phil.) I disliked that Grover Waiter skit even when I was a kid, and the Thirty-Nine Stairs is...

He will watch the entire thing, which is amazing for the short attention span of a 16-month old (it's almost an hour long). I don't even mind watching it since it's got so much music. I think the lack of Elmo and Zoe can only be a plus. ....

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Sesame Street video finally comes to DVD!!!, July 26 2003
By
This review is from: Put Down the Duckie: An All-Star Musical Special (Sesame Street) (DVD)
This is probably one of the best Sesame Street specials on video. Great songs which range from Bob doing a round of "People in Your neighborhood" and Patty LaBelle's "How I Miss My Ex" to "Sing Your Synonyms" (a Sesame Street remake of sorts of the classic song "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off") and the title song. Great clips include "Monsterpiece Theatre" and a segment with Grover as the bumbling waiter.

Even though kids of today might like it, I think probably those who watched the show when Jim Henson was alive (R.I.P.) would enjoy it more. Shoot, even my MOM likes it. The reasons I think younger kids wouldn't be as interested in it is because, since this video is from the 80's, Zoe and Baby Bear aren't on there, and Elmo only shows up during "Sing Your Synonyms". Also, it's fun for the adults to watch because of how the celebrities who on it like Barbara Walters, Rhea Perlman, Danny DeVito, and Jeremy Irons (to name a few) have changed over the years.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one's for Mom, Mar 29 2004
This review is from: Put Down the Duckie: An All-Star Musical Special (Sesame Street) (DVD)
This is possibly the only Sesame Street video not made for kids. This one takes the best of the adult-humor material from Sesame Street and puts it all on one video. The ubsurd, the sublime, and the really cool.

Put Down the Duckie is Sesame Street poking fun at itsef. It's Phil Donahue digging up the dirt, Sesame Street style. And Barbara Walters *trying* to interview the ever-innocent Bob.

Don't buy this one for the kids. Some may like it, but I guarantee Mom and Dad will like it better!

5.0 out of 5 stars I think I can stand to watch it again, Oct 21 2003
After repeatly being subjected to one of the all Elmo all the time videos, I thought might barf if I had to watch another muppet video. Whaddaya know? This one has a mixture of old classic bits as well as a few celebrity singers (James Taylor performs a great little tune). My son enjoys this video very much(otherwise it wouldn't make the cut).

This one's a great addition to any Sesame Street collection!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too many celebrities not enough Sesame Street characters, Aug 18 2003

This review is from: Put Down the Duckie: An All-Star Musical Special (Sesame Street) (DVD)
Just bought this for my 21 month old daughter, a Sesame Street Fan. She sits glued to the TV for "Elmopalooza" (worth every penny). When we got home from daycare she found the "Put down the Ducky" DVD on the table and insisted on watching "Ernie". She couldn't contain her excitement as I unwrapped and placed the DVD in the player I recieved cheers of "yeah, Ernie!". She was enthralled during the 1st number but then got up and left the room during people in the neighborhood (right around the time Barbara Walters showed up!) Then it gets worse with Ralph Nader!
Anyway to sum up, she showed interest during the few numbers that had Sesame street characters (puppets) but was disinterested in the celebrities. I am sorry I bought it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Put down the duckie, April 13 2003

My daughter has several Sesame Street videos and this is by far the worst. It does not capture her attention and really has nothing to do with Ernie or the duckie. It shows many adults running around singing. The only one who like this video was my husband, it brought back some memories of older episodes!!

5.0 out of 5 stars For kids of all ages, Dec 26 2002
By A Customer
Sure, I loved these sketches when I first saw them in '87/'88 when I was (gulp!) 5 years old, but I saw them yesterday for the first time in 15 years. Of course, there were still some people who I didn't know who they were until my Mom told me, like Joe Williams, as well as Jean Marsh and Gordon Jackson from "Upstairs Downstairs".

I think my Mom wanted this more than I did. I told her she should have bought two copies: one for me and one for her.

:-)

3.0 out of 5 stars Sesame Street for grownups, May 17 2002
By
Michele S. Hays (Evanston, IL United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I personally enjoyed this video very much - but I can't say the same for my toddler. It's a collection of celebrity clips and most of the humor is directed at adults, rather than kids. Celebrities include Phil Donahue, Ralph Nader, Martina Navritalova, Barbara Walters, Paul Simon, and Jane Curtin, to name a few.

Unfortunately, these were all cameos - the celebrity songs you get on Sesame Street where a celebrity sings a song all the way through just doesn't happen. There is one clip of Grover as a waiter that used to be a running gag on Sesame Street - but since it stands alone, my toddler didn't think it was funny. There's some cute stuff here, but, really, it's not that much fun for kids.

It's worth getting for yourself, though. Funny to see how much Barbara Walters and Ralph Nader have changed!
