3.0 out of 5 stars As much as I loved the original,
The translation of this game didn't go over too well. I felt the GBA buttons made playing this game too difficult. I was stuck in level 5 for the longest time (NOTE I've beaten this game many a time on the old NES) and I finally gave up. I'm rating it middling, because the game and idea behind it is still excellent, just this version of it isn't so hot.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the second greatest games of all time!!!!!!, May 31 2004

Alot of people say different things. You have people who are Nintendo fans but say that the Zelda series are the greatest games of all time. Then you have Playstation fans claiming that the Final Fantasy series are the greatest games of all time. Now you have people claiming that Super Mario Brothers 3 is the greatest game of all time. As for me, i have a couple of games that i believe are tied for the title of the greatest game of all time. Here's my ranking:

TIED FOR #1: Super Mario World

Dragon Warrior I&II
Dragon Warrior III
Mario Kart Super Circuit
Mario Kart Double Dash
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario Sunshine
Game and Watch Gallery II
Game and Watch Gallery I
Game and Watch Gallery III
Dragon Warrior Monsters II: Tara's Adventure
Pokemon Gold & Silver
Pokemon Red & Blue
Sonic the Hedgehog I
Sonic the Hedgehog II
Sonic the Hedgehog III
Army Men Turf Wars
Super Mario Land II
Wario Land I (Super Mario Land III)
Mario Party 4

#2 Super Mario Brothers I
Super Mario Brothers III
Bugs Bunny: Crazy Castle I

This is just an example i have more to rank but not now. super Mario Brothers III is a great game, but not of all time. I loved the game sure but i felt that a couple of other games deserve the title as the greatest game of all time. From what i remember, it was a great game, the graphics were hot, and Mario was entertaining. The SNES version was much better than the NES version.

5.0 out of 5 stars AHHH...GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!, May 3 2004
This review is from: Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 (Video Game)
YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. THIS IS WHAT I"M TALKING ABOUT. A TALE OF MASSIVE PROPORTIONS.

IN THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM, WE GOT SEVEN KINGS LIVING THEIR LIVES...THEN KOOPA TROOPAS COME AND ATTACK. SEVEN KIDS KOOPAS THAT PWN AERIS AND CLOUD STEAL THE WANDS AND USED THE MAGIC STICKS WITH ONE SHOT AND BOOM...ALL 7 KINGS TURN INTO MONSTERS. MASTER CHIEF CAN BEAT THEM...NEITHER CAN GORDON FREEMAN, RIKKU, GEORGE BUSH, CRONO, MEGA MAN, MEGA MAN X, SIGMA, GANONDORF, GANON!, RYU, RYU, RYU, RYU, RYU HAYABUSA, THE RYU CHARACTER CREATED FOR FINAL FANTASY XI, THE RYU CHARACTER CREATED FOR EVERQUEST, THE RYU CHARACTER CREATED BY STARCRAFT FANBOYS...

SO, THE TWO PLUMBERS ARE OFF TO THE RESCUE...THEY TREK THROUGH BEAUTIFUL TERRAINS...FROM THE GRASSY LANDS OF MUSHROOMIA, TO THE KALAMARI DESERT, TO THE RISINGS SEAS AND THE ISLAND OF THE GIANTS, TO THE SKY KINGDOM OF CLOUDRANIA (WHERE THE OTHER 'CLOUD' IS HELD AS ETERNAL PRISONER), TO THE ICY AREA OF PIRALAX, TO THE LAND OF FLOATING PIPES....AND TUBES OWNED BY PIRAHNA PLANTS, AND FINALLY BOWSER'S DARK WORLD (WHICH IS NOTHING COMPARED TO LINK TO THE PAST'S DARK WORLD), FILLED WITH FIRE, AIRSHIPS (WHICH PWN THE HIGHWIND...ALL OF THEM), MILITARY TANKS (WHICH EVEN SNAKE CAN'T DESTROY), RISING LAVA TURNING ANYTHING THAT TOUCHES TO ASHES, AND ONE TREK WHICH WILL TAKE AS LONG AS BEATING OCARINA OF TIME FROM START TO SCRATCH WITH MANY TWISTS AND TURNS.

ENEMIES LIKE KOOPAS, PARATROOPAS, SPINKYS, PIRAHNA PLANTS, BOB-OMBS, BULLET BILLS, CHEAP-CHEAPS AND NEW ONES LIKE FLYING GOOMBAS MAKE THIS GAME A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE.

MARIO PWNS ALL!! GET THIS GAME...OR GET THE NES ONE...OR THE SNES ONE...ITS THE BEST!!! GUARANTEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Great game - but why so costly?, April 20 2004

Don't get me wrong - Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of the greatest games Nintendo ever made. I remember paying an exorbitant amount of money so I could play the Japanese version before the original game was released in America - and then playing it literally all night and into the next morning. In fact, I just had fun playing it the other day on my Super Nintendo.

Which leads to the question - why the heck does this cost $29.99? As far as I could tell, the only changes are some annoying random voice samples, and a few text changes that I can't explain (i.e. the "cards" that you get at the end of each level are now called something else - tiles, maybe?).

I have a game called Mario All-Stars for my Super Nintendo. It features four full Mario games, with extensive updates to the graphics and sound of each game. Yet, if I remember correctly, that game sold for only $39.99 when it was brand new. The fact that Nintendo now is selling a 10-year-old game for more than $10 is ridiculous.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best is back, Mar 17 2004

I grew up with this game so when it came out for gameboy advance, I HAD to have it. All the old challanges and bosses, it's truly a classic. I love the old Mario Bros. a lot more than the newer games. All they focus on now are the graphics. It's a pity they don't make games like this anymore. Treasure this.

About the game:

Mario Bros. 3 is jammed back with levels, enemies and weapons. It's especially good if you have an E-reader card where you can play NEVER BEFORE PLAYED levels. As most games, each level you progress to gets harder and harder. It's an excellent game...really, there isn't much more to say. Buy it and you'll understand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great port, but I was expecting more, Mar 14 2004
By
Mycroft (Grand Rapids, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 (Video Game)
First, the original Super Mario Bros. 3 was a great game, and the original Legend of Zelda is the only competition for the greatest NES game of all time. This greatness is carried over well.

While is is more or less a direct port, the graphics have been improved (taken from the SNES re-release of the NES Mario games, Super Mario All-Stars), as well as the sound and music. Unfortunately, they also added in voices for the brothers. While novel at first, you'll start to get annoyed the hundredth time Mario exclaims "Oh, just what I needed!" when he picks up a mushroom.

My main disappointment lies with lack of extras. When a favorite movie is re-released on DVD, I've come to expect commentaries of some sort, deleted scenes, and a few other extras. I guess that doesn't hold true for videogames. Want to know what the great reward is at the end? Level select. That's it. You can warp back and re-play any previously beaten level. Somewhat of a let-down if you've just spent the last two days powering through to beat them all.

There are some extras, yes, but they're only available through the e-Reader add-on, and it also requires a friend with a GBA so you can link. Or if you're going it solo, you'll have to pick up an extra gameboy yourself just for this purpose. I haven't yet dropped the near-$100 to get these accessories, and I don't think a few extra levels are worth this great expense.

I love all Mario games but this one was my favorite. I love going to all of the little islands and beating up monsters. It is a long game but keeps you entertained. Very cool game. You should buy it.

I remember the first time I heard that Super Mario Bros 3 was coming to the original NES.I was 9 and in heaven.I always loved Mario Bros and I was hoping that it would be the best in the series.Well I was right until 1991 when an even more impressive masterpiece called Super Mario World came out.It was a superior game with excellent music but enough of that because this is a review of Super Mario 3.
To start off with the music is almost better than Super Mario 1 and 2 and the graphics are definitely better too. There are lots of levels but for me the most fun ones are the most challenging ones. That would be levels 5,6,7 and 8. The easy ones are fun too but since there isnt much of a challenge there it is slightly boring. There wasnt anything like it back then but it just doesnt seem as exciting to me as say Super Mario 64,Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario World.Super Mario 64 is more exciting because the graphics are better while Mario Sunshine and Super Mario World are more exciting because theres more of a challenge.Still Super Mario 3 is a fun game and a classic so its really not worth complaining too much about.
