4.0 out of 5 stars Great yoga
I also thought this was a great yoga video, very much like a class. The background music is soft and does not distract from the yoga practices. The only reason I did not give it a 5 was because of an audio technical difficulty. Rainbeau appears to have been dubbed or rather, her lips do not match the words you hear, even though she speaks English and the words are in...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not the best
I have four prenatal yoga workouts and this one is not the best. Yoga Journal's Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea is by far much better then this. However, let me clarify why. Both workouts are good and safe to do. I found Rainbeau Mars to be sweet but not soothing or spiritual. She has a high voice and talks way too much during the workout. Shiva Rea also talks a lot but it's...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great yoga, Mar 8 2004

I also thought this was a great yoga video, very much like a class. The background music is soft and does not distract from the yoga practices. The only reason I did not give it a 5 was because of an audio technical difficulty. Rainbeau appears to have been dubbed or rather, her lips do not match the words you hear, even though she speaks English and the words are in English. It is weird. This might not bother some people, but it bothered me when I initially watched it. It seemed to me like a timing thing. Once you are doing the routine comfortably and look at the screen less, it might not be a problem. Seems like it would be easy to fix, I'm emailing the company to see what the deal is. Amazon was great about giving me a new DVD, but it did the same thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great yoga session, sometimes annoying instruction, Mar 6 2004
By
This review is from: Zenmama Prenatal Yoga W/O (DVD)
If you haven't done yoga before, this might be a tough workout - it's not too strenuous, but her instruction can be confusing (eg. "Move your shoulders up... down towards your back") and she doesn't explain the poses in-depth. Still, it's not watered-down and has more "true" yoga poses, unlike some of the other options.
I do this video as part of my fitness routine, but each time I cringe at some of the more annoying chatter - problems with grammar like "the femur bones is the bone," or telling us that chest stretches along with a good oil are great for preventing stretch marks (to which my dr. said she sounds like an enthusiastic, first-time mom.) The good news, if you have the DVD, is that if you're distracted by her instruction but want the thorough workout, you can select the video with music only.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great prenatal yoga video for all levels, July 3 2004

ZenMama is a terrific prenatal yoga workout. I originally bought Yoga Mama by Crunch because of its rave reviews and also the recommendation from Fit Pregnancy magazine. I was highly disappointed due to the feeling of being rushed through the workout, not getting an adequate stretch. I felt unsatisfied after every workout and decided to purchase ZenMama.

I consider myself at an intermediate level of yoga. My personal preference of yoga video before pregnancy was Baron Baptiste's Power Yoga, level II. I say this only because everyone has a varied preference in style.

ZenMama provides great stretching, has helped me with digestion, and also keeps you in tune with your baby throughout pregnancy. It's gentle and easy to follow for beginners (with a couple of exceptions in her wording), but definately a thorough workout for all levels. Rainbow Mars has a bubbly personality that is refreshing. Those who are annoyed by it can choose to play only music throughout the workout. I've been enjoying the video 4-5 days a week for 4 months now and haven't gotten tired of it. That combined with a mile walk every day (which is really not that much) has kept my weight gain steady and minimal. I highly recommend this video to anyone who is pregnant- it will truly help you through your 9 months.

Shiva Rea also talks a lot but it's in a soothing low voice that's not interfering. I like my yoga to be meditative and somewhat serious. Rainbeau jokes too much and I can not take her seriously as a qualified yoga instructor. Yoga Zone Pregnancy tape is okay, though Zen Mama's workout is better.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this DVD, Jan 10 2004

I want to say this is the best yoga dvd for pregnant women! Rainbeau is a very good yoga instructor and very easy to follow. I like the modifications she has for each trimester. I recommend this video for every pregnant woman who is looking for an invigorating yet relaxing workout throughout their pregnancy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feels good but not very challenging, Jun 2 2009

I bought this DVD after doing Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea because I needed a change of pace in my workout. Rainbeau does a good job of guiding you through the workout, however can be very hard to follow with her words at points and talks a LOT during the video and stumbles on her words. It was a nice easy yoga session, but after doing Shiva's workout for a couple months, it didn't give the same full body good feeling as Shiva's. I would still highly recommend it, however, even in partnership with Shiva Rea's because it does offer some aspects that Shiva's does not, such as downward dog, which is supposed to be really good for pregnancy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great yoga, Oct 1 2005

Amber (Kelowna, British Columbia Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zenmama Prenatal Yoga W/O (DVD)
Although this is the only video I've tried for my pregancy, I thought it was very refreshing. With a bit of yoga background I found it easy to follow, just the right length, and it left me feeling great.

People without any yoga knowledge may find some of the instructiong vague or confusing, but if you know yoga poses at all, you should be able to follow it with no problem. The options given depending on your trimester are also useful, and I found myself using both the second and third trimester poses, depending on which felt most comfortable.

I'll be doing this one right through to the end of my pregnancy!

1.0 out of 5 stars yuk, instructor is too spaced out for me, July 6 2004
This review is from: Zenmama Prenatal Yoga W/O (DVD)
i did this workout once and traded it, the instructor is TOO SPACED OUT for me, she is the ultimate California Yoga type who will bother the heck out of alot of people. She greated my nerves and was not very good at motivating, relaxing, or teaching. This is two thumbs down

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good workout, Jun 24 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Zenmama Prenatal Yoga W/O (DVD)
I really enjoy this dvd. Rainbeau Mars is charmingly goofy and the workout is a good one. There is nothing in here that stresses my mind or body - I just feel good when I do it. The only problem with the dvd is that the audio track is off in the beginning which is really creepy to watch - I just avert my eyes. Otherwise, it's a good stretch with a gentle workout; highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars not a favorite, Jun 7 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Zenmama Prenatal Yoga W/O (DVD)
This video falls into the category of: seems like they did it in one take. The main problem is the instructor. She makes numerous grammatical mistakes, doesn't explain certain things well, and makes "off-the-cuff" remarks that seem staged. I don't know if there are better yoga videos out there (I bought this one since its reviews were better than most), but this is NOT something I happily reach for. One caveat: this may be the snobbery of someone with several yoga studios within walking distance. If your fitness access is limited and you're not picky, it is certainly better than no yoga.
