5.0 out of 5 stars SO UNIQUE
This cd sparked my interest in consuming music again. Since I bought this cd about 2 months ago, I have bought about 9 or 10 other albums(Jimmy Eat World(2), Thursday(2), Brand new, Tacking Back Sunday, AFI, Saves the Day, Incubus.) AFI came close but only 1 album has out done Billy Talent and that was Clarity by Jimmy Eat World, which is probably the most revolutionary...

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the hype
I have to admit I haven't given it a big listen, because... I try to take this album seriously, but I can't help laughing when I hear the songs, because the vocals really remind me of Weird Al Yankovic! Wow, that was deep.

Ben's screaming may take a while to get used to, but it definetely grows on you. After a few weeks I didn't even notice his voice, all I heard was the amazing music. Below are my favorite tracks:

Prisoners of Today(favorite by a long shot)
Voices of Violence
Line/Sinker(2nd fav)
How it Goes
Nothing to Lose

Honorable Mentions: Lies, Standing in the Rain

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Sound - Punk at it's best!, Feb 18 2004
By
This review is from: Billy Talent (Audio CD)
I don't normally listen to punk music, but this band has brought something truly unique to the genre. They have a unique melody I wouldn't mix with any other band. They stand out in a big clump of mainstream punk bands that sounds the same. The guitars bring a sound that just makes me jump and enjoy myself. The lyrics are so much better than just angry punk.

My best picks: "River Below", "The Ex", "Prisoners of Today".

I'd recommend them to anyone who wants a taste of something new. At one point when I was listening to them, a thought passed through my mind "if these guys keep doing what they're doing [and forgive me for this blunt comparison], they could become The Beatles of punk." I'm not sure if anyone's earned this title yet. But for a new, fresh sounds, this is your band!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Plain Amazing, Jan 2 2004
By
This review is from: Billy Talent (Audio CD)
This C.D is nothing short of perfection. Every track is filled with energy. How a band can go from fun up beat tracks like try honesty and line & sinker to an emotional/suicidal punk ballad like Nothing to Lose is just one of the many examples of why you should own this record. When i first heard the name, i must have thought to my self over and over again "this album is gunna suck", (my first impression was weak country music i.e billy crawford) but hell, everyones entitled to make mistakes. Bottom line, this is a great band, and with more exposure and a better label, they could be on top of the pop punk world, like blink 182, green day and sum 41.

How could any of you who think you know music so well ever think that these guys didn't write their own music and that "Try Honesty" is the only catchy song on this record? Is it that maybe they are slightly more original than probably 99% of the bands out there right now? We Americans always make of Canada but I'm thinking of moving there because of the bands that come out of there. Canadian bands have been rocking harder and better than American bands for quite awhile now.

Other non-catchy songs: "Line and Sinker", "Lies", "River Below", "The Ex", "Nothing To Loose".

For those who have heard Billy Talent's single "Try Honesty" and have enjoyed it, pick up the album and expect to hear even greater things than the single. Excellent songs include "River Below", "Lies", "Standing in the Rain" and "How it Goes".
The album doesn't stop for a minute, but continues with great melodies and amazing lyrics. This is definately punk-rock at its best.
This CD will please everyone who purchases it. A great addition to your CD collection.
The most amazing thing of all, is that all the songs are great. There is no song on this album that you will skip....ever.

This cd is timeless. Billy Talent is one of my favorite bands, and they only have one release! Some bands grow on me, but this one just took Try Honesty. 5.0 out of 5 stars Exploding With Talent, July 24 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Billy Talent (Audio CD)
It had taken me a while to find an album that I wouldn't get tired of. Then I came along Billy Talent's self titled album, which was creative, unique and just overall great. I was amazed by this CD from the first song "This Is How It Goes" until the last song "Voices Of Violence."

1. This Is How It Goes: 10/10(My favourite song on the CD, lots of energy)

2. Living In The Shadows: 8/10(A great song, but gets annoying after a while)

3. Try Honesty- 10/10(The first single off the album, has a great riff, one of my favourites)

4. Line & Sinker: 7/10(Good, but not great. Was featured in the movie Grind)

5. Lies 7/10(A little bit different from the rest of the CD, more emo-ish)

6. The Ex: 8/10(Lots of energy, a fun song)

7. River Below: 9/10(Great song, but extremely overplayed in Canada)

8. Standing In The Rain: 5/10(My least favourite song on the album)

9. Cut The Curtains 5/10(this song gets annoying as hell)

10. Prisoner Of Today: 10/10(Great song, lot's of energy, great lyrics)

11. Nothing To Lose:9/10(Very sad, slow song)

12. Voices Of Violence 8/10(A great way to end the CD)

Overall, this is my favourite band, and if you don't like them, I don't know what you consider "good music"

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD I have ever bought!, May 25 2005
By
Heather (British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Billy Talent (Audio CD)
I have never been a huge fan of EMO or pop/punk music. I've always found it very whiny and just plain stupid...until I bought Billy Talent's cd.

I had heard 1 or 2 of the songs quite a few times and they were starting to grow on me, so one day I decided to just go ahead and buy the cd for the fun of it. Wow, was I amazingly surprised. Every single song was great! After a week or two of listening to the cd, I was hooked. Even 5 months later I still listen to it almost every day.

11 out of the 12 songs are absolutely AWESOME! The only song I'm not too fond of is "Cut the Curtains"...it's just kinda boring. Otherwise...some of my favourites on the album are "Line and Sinker", "River Below", and "Voices of Violence", because they have lots of energy. BUY THIS CD! It might even change your taste in music like it did for me.
