There is not much additionally that I could say about Eva Cassidy that hasn't already been said so instead I will just give my thoughts about this CD.1.Drowning In The Sea Of Love: She does a good rendition of this song. I would consider it an old standard if classifying an era for this song. As always the vocal is good as is the musical arrangement. 2.True Colours: A Cyndy Lauper song which still to me although I love Eva's version as well I still prefer Ms. Lauper's. Eva's voice is precise & clear which is what I think is missing from this interpretation; it's what I love about Cyndy's vocal. Having said that I do have it on one of my playlists because Eva's voice is always comforting. 3.Hallelujah, I Love Him So: This again is what I would consider a Retro song from another era....40/s, 50's. The arrangement is also time dated back to that time. If you like that style of music then you'll like this song. I think it would have been more interesting if she had attempted to change up this song from the usual old standard to something more current & relevant in her generation. But it is sung well & performed well paying respect to that era of music. 4.God Bless The Child: Again a retro but bluesy rendition of this magnificent song. I love Eva's version and have this one on one of my playlists. Myself I like the original or the more current version sung by Shania Twain of this song. But she does real justice to this song as Eva does do Blues so well. 5.Dark Eyed Molly: This sounds like an Irish ballad to me. Eva's voice sounds lovely on it. The instruments sound great also! 6.American Tune: This song is one that many remember Eva singing. She does a really, really great job on this one. It is just sung to perfection; such wonderful lyrics & the guitar work is so fitting on this song. So many pivotal points in her vocal on this song. This song is worth getting the CD for as it's relaxing to listen to after a hard day at work! 7.It Don't Mean A Thing: This is another classic standard....likely more from her parent's generation. It is a bluesy jazzy version & she does that well. Not my cup of tea but I do appreciate anyone who keeps this music alive and more than likely is reliving their own childhood memories of their parent's generation music era and possibly how it also directed her into her own musical tastes somewhat. I think Eva had a broader versatility being able to crossover in many genres and do them well especially blues but she performs this well if it's your cup of tea. 8.Yesterday: The classic Lennon/McCartney (Beatles) song that I think still is one of the best ballads ever written in music. No wonder Eva wanted to do her own rendition of this song. She does justice to it for sure and shows her powerful vocals on this piece. I have it on a playlist just because I could hear this song done over & over again by many different artists. Having said that my favorite is still the Beatles version....nothing like a John & Paul combo. But it was interesting especially to hear a woman singing this song for a change. 9.You Take My Breath Away: Okay folks....this song will do just that....take your breath away. I bought this CD & thought after hearing this song...that this CD was worth what I paid ...JUST FOR THIS SONG! It is vocal gymnastics to such an extent that no one could ever bring the genuine angelic performance of this song as Eva does. You might as well just set up your player for a constant "repeat" setting on this one. Heaven! These are the songs I am critiquing on this CD; some of which I have on playlists & some I do not as they just are not my favorite genre. Enjoy your day all!

Eva and Genie make great chill out music - American Tune,
This review is from: American Tune (Audio CD)
I got this CD at the same time as some other Eva and the Wildflowers love songs by Genie. They were recommended together and what a great recommendation - they are both great in their own ways. I splurged but it was way worth it!The Wildflowers Love Songs CD by Genie is slower and more peaceful. It's like the softer parts of Molly and Yesterday, before Eva gets loud. I use the Genie Wildflowers CD for resting and dreaming, and I use Eva for a little variety when i've played Genie's about a million times. It's all good. Great music is great music - nothing else in the world can make me feel so good.

Eva is a must,

With soulful phrasing, and a haunting voice, Eva is one of the best american singers to date. True, however, she is unknown to many, Eva Cassidy is one singer no one should be without. She is to vocal music as Monet was to paint. Her coupling of notes is much like that of an the painter, coungering up images and thoughts, leaving even the most burdened heart left with an uplifting embrace. She was one of a kind, and will serverly and sadly be missed.

Eva Cassidy has the most beautiful voice my ears have ever heard. I put American Tune, The Other Side, Live at Blues Alley, Imagine, and Songbird on my CD-player so I can enjoy Eva's vocal perfection for several hours - a real Eva-thon!I can't say which of her songs I like best, they're all so wonderful. Think of the garbage "music" on the market today - can you believe she was ever rejected by a record company?

bottom of the barrel, quite the contrary, this album has a feel all its own. the recordings on this one seem to be less intense than the music on her other ones, but this has its rewards, she seems more relaxed and reflective, i feel closer to her on this album than any other.

Don't get me wrong, I think Eva was a great singer. I just didn't care for most of the jazz and all of the gospel tunes she did. Now for the positive, I liked the following tunes on this CD: American Tune, Dark Eyed Molly, and I think You Take My Breath Away is the best song on this CD.

I like the slow folky tunes on this CD.The upbeat ones are not my fave, but then my favorite artist is Genie, who does really really relaxing stuff, kind of like the slow and gentle side of Eva.Ttwo singers are the best I've ever heard. Genie's voice is a little softer and delicate, and she writes new songs I've never heard before. Eva is wonderful too, with songs I've heard before and a little more oomph. Both Genie and Eva are very worth your money, much better than that radio noise. I love quiet singers.

5 stars for 'folk Eva',

Having rated Imagine as a 4 star, I feared that this, the next release, might only be a 3. However I was very impressed with the performance quality of some tracks on this CD. It doesn't yet seem like 'bottom of the barrel' stuff, though the alternative performances of songs already released elsewhere indicates that time is coming. Having said that, 3 or 4 great songs on an Eva Cassidy CD still worthwhile.I must confess to not liking everything on this CD. The jazzy numbers do little for me, but the folk & slow songs are a different matter. Every wondrous nuance in her vocals is a delight - so pure and utterly musical yet never overdone. (Best appreciated with headphones.)

The Water is Wide equals Somewhere,

This review is from: American Tune (Audio CD)
I am a big Eva Cassidy fan. I play Songbird and her Live album a lot. But I think American Tune might be my favorite Eva cd. I play The Water is Wide over and over on my commute to work - and it's an hour drive! I never get tired of it. I also just love her Dark Eyed Molly, American Tune, and You Take My Breath Away. I play those four songs continuously and am in heaven listening to her. The Water is Wide is as beautiful as Somewhere on Songbird. You just can't beat Eva Cassidy for the pure, angelic voice. Buy this album!!!
