ALRIGHT!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Core (Full Screen) (DVD)
I watched this last night and really liked it. I enjoyed the whole premise of the movie which is to save our Earth a craft must drill its way to the core and plant bombs to correct the Earths motion. Lots of neat ideas come up as they fiqure out how to do it. Of course its really beyond our science right now but I liked how they handled it. The movie keeps you interested as they encounter problems along the way. The actors portray themselves as really beliving that they are in the Earths core which helps the movie alot ,plus the special effects are very neat. Somthing besides space and car explosions. you have to suspend your serious side and just sit back and enjoy this movie and I belive you will.

Great Disaster/Science Fiction Flick!,

This review is from: Core, the (VHS Tape)
Just a really good movie all around. If you liked Deep Impact and movies like it then you'll like this. There are a couple technical things to nitpick but overall it's believable.

Pretty Good,

This review is from: The Core (Widescreen) (DVD)
As seeing so many disastrous disaster films, with only a few exceptions, I had put off seeing this for a long time. But, this film is pretty good. Yes, some of it is predictable, but there are also some novel ideas presented. Much of it is believable. The action is not edge-of-your-seat, but it is nail-biting at times.

I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE,
By
This review is from: The Core (Widescreen) (DVD)
THE CORE is a great movie....not because it has a marvelously written script. It's a great movie because it's what you want from a disaster movie, and has a tremendously talented cast. Aaron Eckhart is marvelous as the heroic Joshua Keyes---not your typical matinee idol handsome, Eckhart has a masculine tenacity, a lot of sensitivity, and performs his role as if it were a Shakesperean oddyssey. Eckhart is the heart of the film. Stanley Tucci is appropriately snooty, self-serving and annoying, yet even he metamorphasizes into an almost hero. It's to Tucci's credit that he pulls this one off so well. D. J. Qualls as Rat is awesome in his nerdish role as the computer hacker supreme. Alfre Woodard in a small role shows why she's such a good supporting actress. Delroy Lindo is great as the shy, soft-spoken inventor who finally breaks loose in a dramatic scenario. Hilary Swank doesn't posit the "I'm an Oscar winner...let me steal this movie." She fills her role admirably and shows no signs of prima-donna hysterics. Richard Jenkins and Bruce Greenwood fill out this cast.I liked this movie a lot, as it reminded me of those great old disaster movies like "Towering Inferno" and "Posiedon Adventure." The effects, particularly of the birds going wacky in Trafalgar Square, are great. See if you can find the trout which was included as an inside joke by director Amiel. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A WILD RIDE!,
This review is from: The Core (Widescreen) (DVD)
I liked this move, the whole concept is that the core of the earth has stopped rotating and we as mankind are about to die. Thus, the government comes up with top-notch scientists and avaitors to solve the problem. How? By a big old craft that can burrow down to the core, withstand heat that is hot as hell, literally (perhaps they are going through hell?) and restart the planet's engine, so to speak. I loved the actors, especially D.J. Quall who played the cyber-nerd and I liked how they added some comic relief through a very serious problem. The graphics were great bringing you right along with the crew and my favorite scene was the singing whales. Wonderful! All in all this movie to me was entertaining in a big way, pulled at my heartstrings when many of the crew members were lost and ended with me having a chuckle at the antics of our cyber-nerd! Good job! Good movie!

When the core of the Earth stops spinning, chaos ensues. Birds fly into buildings and international landmarks are destroyed. A group of scientists is assembled to travel to the Earth's core and start it again."The Core" is one of the most underrated movies I've seen. Firstly, I don't think that the technical aspects are so laughable. Why wouldn't we be able to go to the Earth's core? I am not a scientist by any means, but if we are determined to do something, what could stop us? Besides, if you are focused on the technicalities during the entire movie, you might be watching it for the wrong reasons. Although all of the actors are fabulous, Aaron Eckhart completely outshines the rest with his impeccable portrayal of Doctor Joshua Keyes, a witty college professor. One of the really refreshing things about this movie is the fact that there is hardly any romance. Some slight flirtation in the beginning, yes, but it never leads to anything significant. I am a hopeless romantic, but sometimes even I get sick of romance in movies. It's nice to see one with just action, suspense, and humor. The DVD features are very good. Special effects are broken down, deleted scenes are shown (great stuff), and there is a commentary from director Jon Amiel. Once again, I have to say that this movie is depreciated far too much. Watch it once and see how you like it.

ACTION-PACKED SUSPENSE JOY-RIDE of the YEAR !,
By cybernery (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Core (Widescreen) (DVD)
The concept of the earth's core having stopped spinning, resulting in a gradual disappearance of the planet's electromagnetic field which protects us from cosmic radiations, and how people would be able to resolve this global catastrophe was enough to make me watch this movie. But then you add actors and actresses who INGENIOUSLY portray a wide variety of characters that represent the best in their field (scientists,Computer Genius,Nasa Pilots, etc.), Introduce the outrageous technology of the Earth-burrowing super ship, And then captivate the viewer with the actual voyage to the Center of the Earth and the non-stop action & suspense of the never-ending problems, the sorrowful deaths, and the overwhelming persistance of the crew to complete their mission and save the planet (and eachother). Also, I forgot to mention the nice special effects. This has to be one of the best (if not the best) action suspense thrillers of the year. I was going to give 4 stars because of the scientific flaws, but then I thought Hey, this is a sci-fi flick, not a documentary!

Easy to like,
By A Customer
This movie is easier to like than Armageddon. The film doesn't take itself too seriously, which Armageddon did, plus doesn't have the sappy-sweet, oh-so-obvious attempts to tug on your heartstrings as was painful in Armageddon (in which I wished that Ben Affleck _would_die already). The Core is altogether more innocent and straightforward, and just plain good entertainment. It also moves alot faster than Armageddon, which I found painfully slow unless Billy Bob Thornton was in the scene. The character development in The Core is pretty good, actually. You do end up liking most of the characters, though the female lead isn't particulary memorable compared with the strong male cast, all of whom you do like (or love to hate), and there are some really nice moments of comic relief, and the characters relate to each other in a believable way (unlike in Armageddon, where all they did was stare at each other and attempt to look gritty/beautiful). I like the combination of alittle bit of science in the movie, too. Also, the characters in The Core really had to act, as opposed to just standing there looking resolutely one-dimensional, as they did in Armageddon. My impression is that The Core may have been aimed at a slightly younger, more interested-in-science crowd than Armageddon, and that makes The Core altogether fresher and easier to enjoy for everyone, regardless of age. Will be very happy when I can buy this one for home viewing! Where is it???

This movie is awful on every level. Diologue, acting, special effects, direction, what else is there? It isn't even suspensful. I can honestly say this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen
