5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I Bought This!
The full year is here! I could watch all these episodes in one sitting. In defense of this set I shall point out that others are disturbed by 2 major factors: lack of features and the ads at the beginning. Well, there are a couple of interviews and a "making of" on the last disc. What other special featurse do you want? Nothing is really needed; the shows...

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning!!!
Just want to give you a warning about a few Bug-a-Boos I have with this DVD Collection. First off, I'm a Law and Order fan who loves watching the show, and I'm glad to now have the Collection on DVD, but I'm not sure I would buy it again.

What I HATE about this DVD is that every time you pop it in, you have to sit through the same commercials. You Can't Skip...

In defense of this set I shall point out that others are disturbed by 2 major factors: lack of features and the ads at the beginning. Well, there are a couple of interviews and a "making of" on the last disc. What other special featurse do you want? Nothing is really needed; the shows are all here. The ads in the beginning can not be skipped. They are reletively short anyway. Look at it this way: few commercials first, then four uncut episodes; or 15 minutes worth of commercials, plus one episode that is cut up for the commercials. The set is totally worth it for any SVU fan. Check out Christopher Meloni on OZ, those DVD sets are now available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice!!!, Jun 28 2004
This review is from: Law And Order - Special Victims Unit: The First Year (DVD)
Okay, okay, im biased rating this five stars because I've been a loyal watcher of it for awhile now; but I think anybody can appreciate the high quality acting, and DVD extras that this treat comes with. You get all 22 episodes in an awesome case, complete with 2 extras that provides you Actor's Commentary and behind-the-scenes action. No one can dispute the electricity that Meloni and Hargitay have working together. At some times thrilling, other times wittythe stories always touch a chord with me. I think, if you like this sort of thing, you will definetly consider it a worthy investment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning!!!, May 30 2004

This review is from: Law And Order - Special Victims Unit: The First Year (DVD)
Just want to give you a warning about a few Bug-a-Boos I have with this DVD Collection. First off, I'm a Law and Order fan who loves watching the show, and I'm glad to now have the Collection on DVD, but I'm not sure I would buy it again.

What I HATE about this DVD is that every time you pop it in, you have to sit through the same commercials. You Can't Skip Them!

Here's a preview of the ads you aren't allowed to Skip.

1. Watch Law & Order on USA
2. Watch The MiniSeries Traffic on USA
3. Watch Taken by Steven Spielberg
4. Buy the Law & Order Video Game.

Also look at the ad insert to tell you AGAIN. Watch Law & Order on USA.

(...)6 unavoidable ads before seeing even 1 Episode!

The purpose of purchasing this OVERPRICED DVD is to avoid the commercials, and I'm more than annoyed that after buying the DVD, I have to sit through the same 4 ads time and time again. Pressing the "menu" button or the "title menu" button won't do. (neither will that snazzy "next" button.)

Look, I'm a fan...
I already watch the show on USA,
I also watch the original on TNT,
I can't stand Criminal Intent, but
I also have the video game,
I see the new episodes on NBC, and
I used to watch it on A&E,

So it looks to me that Dick Wolf isn't going to squeeze any more viewing time out of me by tormenting me with these annoying commercials. WHY! WHY! WHY! Torment me?!?!?

Ok, glad to get that off my chest.

Quick review on the first season. The show, to me, has gotten
better with the addition of Ice-T and the loss of a few characters. It's intersting to see how the show got to where it is, in the order things occured. Future seasons will be much anticipated, but please let me watch them in commercial free peace.

IMPORTANT!!!
(...)I don't like writing negative reviews, but I was disappointed with this set. No extras by the way. To leave on a happier note. The Three's Company DVD of Season 2 is a great deal and a great price here at amazon. The extras are well worth it. The pilot without the real Janet and Crissy is something special. I wish Law & Order could have produced a set to leave the customer more satisfied. Just to be clear. Amazon has a fair price, but as a fan, I don't feel it's worth the money you'll be charged for this DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing show., April 11 2004

This review is from: Law And Order - Special Victims Unit: The First Year (DVD)
This show has impacted me enough to want to spend $50 on a boxed DVD set. I watch it every night and when I am not watching it, I'm studying it.

First of all, I love the first season, I must say. Mariska Hargitay looks absolutely beautiful as the empathic Detective Olivia Benson, a character I have fallen in love with. Christopher Meloni is nothing less than hot as Detective Elliot Stabler, and the chemistry between the two is absolutely extraordinary. They are what pull you in, whether you realize it or not.

Of course, Richard Belzer as John Munch is great - the character's dry sense of humor is fantastic, and he can sense a conspiracy in anything. There are quite a few people that I know of who, in part, watch the show because of him.

Michelle Hurd is a very strong actress as Monique Jeffries - I was very sad when she left - and Dean Winters did a good job during the duration of Brian Cassidy's too short stay.

The plotlines are compelling - you are left wondering how people can do such things, especially when they get away with it. There are many amazing episodes in this season especially - Stalked comes to mind immediately. As Liv is my favorite character, this episode really struck a chord with me. But I'm drawn to those types of plotlines as it is.

Overall, you can't go wrong with a cast like this. The chemistry between all of the characters - especially between Benson and Stabler - is overwhelmingly good sometimes. I really hope you take time to watch this season. The only complaint I have is the lack of the fantastic Stephanie March as ADA Alexandra Cabot - guess we'll have to wait for Season 2 for more of her.

...i love wathcing Law and Order SVU. I love Detective Benson and Stabler, because even though this is a drama show, they make it funny. I love Fin Tutuola(played by Ice-T) because he's a gressive and sensitive at the same time. Munch i really funny when it comes to talking to a suspect. I really love Alexandra Cabot, the defense attorney.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother, Mar 4 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Law And Order - Special Victims Unit: The First Year (DVD)
I agree with the earlier reviewer that the two main characters, Detectives Stabler & Benson, are difficult to like. Unlike the original Law & Order, this show is more contrived, slower moving, and terribly preachy. The two detectives are a little too "perfect" for my taste, and I find myself irritated when they tell absolutely everyone how to live, how to act at a crime scene, how to choose their friends, how to raise their children, etc...and that's just in the first four episodes!

With all the quality shows on DVD such as Homicide: Life on the Street, CSI, NYPD Blue, and The Shield, I'm really sorry I wasted my time and money on this load of garbage.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved SVU!, Mar 1 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Law And Order - Special Victims Unit: The First Year (DVD)
I'm surprised on the reviews here. I'm glad I didn't base my judgement on buying this DVD set on the reviews. I loved this boxed set of Law and Order SVU. I'm a huge Law and Order fan all the way around. I thought the quality of it was fine. I've seen worse. I'm waiting for the Second Season to come out. One I sat down to watch these episodes it was hard to get back up and do anything else. I did finish this set in two days.
