Very moving and meaningful movie,

I actually just watched this movie last night, I was expecting a movie more focused on the actual shooting and the shooter but it wasn't. It was focused on the strange and deepening relationship between the two main characters. This movie was rather long but you never noticed how long until it was over, I don't feel as though it dragged on at all. It really kept you hooked up to the last minute. It was a very beautifully and wonderfully made movie. I was very impressed to learn that it was an independent movie because it was done so well. The story was great the way it was told and I absolutely loved this movie. It really does change your perspective on people and you realize that someone may be mean or different but it may be for a reason--you have no idea what happens in other people's lives and this movie really makes you see that. I recommend that everyone go see this movie--if you go rent it, it's only like $4 or $5 and it's WELL worth it!

I don't see why this movie is highly rated. Very unlikable, simple characters, predicatble story - could have been told in 44 min tv show.

OMG! This movie kicks! It's complete irony til the end. K, there's this terrible shooting @ school. The only one who saw the whole thing is this "goth" chick named Alicia. Well, the police and the principle want her to tell them exactly what happened... she doesn't give a s***. Well, the days go by.The police come, blah blah blah.... she ends up at a funeral for one of the students that were killed. Hates it there. Ends up at a hospital to sit with one of the injured students. The girl's name is Deanna. What seems like an " I hate you, You hate me" relationship blooms into a real friendship. But for some reason, Alicia hates the hospital. But why??? and since she hates it so much, why does she keep coming back to visit some prep?? Like i said earlier, the story is complete irony to the last seens... The question still stands, why does Alicia hate the hospital so much? especially that particular room, room # 201. I'll let you figure it out. There's a touching ending, so get your tissues ready!!!!!!! I urge anyone who has ever felt alone or has ever hated someone b/c of what they look like, i promise, it'll change your perspective... b/c EVERYONE HAS A STORY...

The most phenomenal movie I've seen,

For me, a teen age girl still in high school who is not in the popular class this movie put everything in prospective. If the only people in this movie were other character such as Deana then the movie wouldnt have been so great. You dont realise what it is like to be another type of person, you dont realise how greatly other poeple have dealt with lose and why they are the way that they are. But in this movie you get to see both sides of two very different poeple and realise that they arent that different at all. I belive that this movie was made with very good intentions on how it was going to help people. I think that after the Columbine shooting adults more than anyone asked the question that the entire movie trys to answer... "why did it happen?" And the movie helps you to realise that there are so many different answers to that and even the people that comitted the shooting cant answer it. Its a wonderful movie full of mystery, love, hate, differences, pain, lose, and friendship. Theres something in there for everyone. I dont think that anyone should go without seeing it.

I WASN'T SURE IF I WAS GOING TO LIKE THIS MOVIE. I SAW "HOSTAGE HIGH" WITH RICK SCHROEDER AND FREDDIE PRINZE JR. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AND WAS EXPECTING THIS MOVIE TO BE SOMETHING LIKE THAT. BOY WAS I SURPRISED. THIS IS A WONDERFUL, EMOTIONAL, AND HONESTLY A VERY HEART-WRENCHING MOVIE STARRING TWO VERY TALENTED ACTRESSES, BUSY PHILLIPS AND ERIKA CHRISTENSEN. I REALLY DID LIKE HOSTAGE HIGH BUT I LIKED THIS MOVIE SO MUCH MORE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT MORE I CAN SAY ABOUT "HOME ROOM" THAT THE OTHER NUMEROUS REVIEWERS HAVEN'T ALREADY SAID BUT I DO HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. AND EVEN THOUGH IT NEVER SPECIFICALLY ANSWERS THE QUESTION "WHY DO SCHOOL SHOOTINGS OCCUR" IT DOES GIVE THE VIEWER A VERY CLOSE LOOK AT THE IMPACT THEY (THE SHOOTINGS THAT IS) HAVE ON THOSE WHO SURVIVE ONE. A VERY HUMAN STORY. IN OTHER WORDS, A MUST-SEE. 5 STARS.

For the ones who are wondering...,

This review is for the ones like me who were concerned about scary images. Not too many worries here, there's no gruesome cadavers or blood spurts, they only show a close-up of a teen who had gotten shot, but all you see is some blood on one girl's head. There is a scene with a dead body, but it's not presented in a scary "Hollywood" type of way, it's very peaceful, and the dialogue between the two main characters is beautiful here. FYI: the body is not a shooting victim. I actually found that some of the dialogue was more disturbing than the film itself. For example, near the beginning when Busy Philipps asks Erika Christensen if she knows why carnations have become the "funeral flower" and she tells her because back in the old days before they could embalm the body, they would use the flowers to try and "cover up the smell of the rotting flesh," that kinda creeped me out. So yeah, there's just a few little things like that. Overall the movie is fairly intense, if you're super sensitive to movies and such you'll probably need to watch something light afterwards. But please check this out, it's not too scary, it's amazing, and the acting and writing are terrific. If you liked "Thirteen," "Swimfan," "Gossip," or even "My First Mister" then get this.

Deserves more respect than "Bowling for Columbine",

This is brilliant. One of those movies that makes you tingle a little after you see it because it's so emotionally gripping. The acting is amazing. I know some people exactly like the characters portrayed in this movie. There are alot of cool plot twists and it has a cool message as well. Makes you think alot. It's a good picture of modern youth culture, and no I'm not just some 45 year old parent or whatever saying that because my daughter has a couple of friends that I like. I'm a 15 year old kid, and I originally picked this movie up because I thought Busy Philipps was hot(I still do actually). I got alot more out of it, however, than something to entertain me for two hours. Even if you aren't really a movie rat(I'm not), if you want in on something that 'bowling for columbine', or the news won't give you on the topic of school shootings, watch this movie. It'll surprise you. It scared me with how real it was.

"Hoom Room" is Outstanding!!,

I rented this movie solely on the fact that two of my favorite actresses, Busy Philipps and Erika Christensen, star in it. I was completely blown away at the performances the leading actors gave in "Home Room," especially that of Busy Philipps. In my opinion, Busy Philipps was definitely the best actor in this movie, but was surrounded by other great actors such as Vince Gilbert (of "Alias") and Erika Christensen ("Swimfan," "Traffic)This is perhaps the best movie I've seen in an extremely long time and I am more than satisfied that I saw it. The portrayal of young people who have experienced or are experiencing loss is perfect. The performances given by Philipps and Christensen renewed my faith in Hollywood. Lately all we see in theaters is crappy movies with less than par acting ability. However, independent films such as "Home Room" give hope to the industry and prove that there are still writers and actors out there who can give us 200% of themselves. I hope everyone gets a chance to see this film at some time in their life because it is one of the best films they will probably ever see.

Totally Contrived Movie,
By

I've had the opportunity of seeing this movie on DVD recently and I have to say that I wish that I would have my time and money back. The characterization, performances, and premise of the movie was totally contrived and also this movie never explains how and why school shootings occur(which is mainly why I watched this movie in the first place), which I think is an exercise in futility and is totally overlooking the real issue here.If anyone wants to see a good movie that really makes you think about how and, most importantly, why school shootings happen I would recommend the "Zero Day" movie(which I think is still playing in select areas) instead of "Home Room".

No Doubt about it, Nice Film that got overlooked by Oscars,

This Movie will make you think that there is a madness out there that needs to be understood. This motion picture is really sad, but it has a good message. There is a world that is going on in the nations schools that really needs to be explained and home room provides several answers to the areas that parents, teens and faculty need to know. I thought about this movie for 3 days, thinking about the ending which to me personally was so touching. One actually cares for the characters to have a happy ending. In my Vision, this is a Quality film that got overlooked by the Oscars. homeroom is just right up there with traffic-meaning in where these are emotional films that will make you believe, think and wonder about the issues that people are facing today. homeroom is recommended, and it is pretty good that this film has reached 10,000 units. great accomplishment.home room has actress e. christensen, busy phillips and viktor garber-who plays officer van zandt. I also recommend "Blue Car" and Agnes Bruckner is in it. Agnes Bruckner is also in Home Room with E.Christensen. |
