A Hidden Gem of a series,
By A Customer
This review is from: Traders: The Complete First Season (DVD)
OK, I'll admit that I bought this just to see David Hewlett BUT I was hooked by the time I reached the end of the second episode. PLEASE, someone tell the production company to release the other seasons onto DVD as I'd be queueing up to buy them!

Just to see them in Order its worth it,

Early on in the series, Timeslots where moved and episodes skipped till much later in the season if at all. They have cleaned up the episodes so it is much better quality to purchase them on DVD rather then to simple "Tape" them. The Aired TV Episodes in the first season were somewhat hazy they have done MUCH to correct this in the DVD's. It does not have commentary and Deleted Scenes and all the other stuff you watch once if ever, For the price its worth it, the show itself is amazing and worth a try, it really gets alot better in season two, but thats not to take away from season one which has its moments and will easily hook most viewers

I'd never heard of this series until I stumbled across it browsing Amazon. Bought it on the strength of the reviews-and it was worth every penny. Absolutely absorbing from the first episode. Brilliant writing and acting-had to watch all epiisodes without stopping. If there was another season, please release it: one of the best things on TV.

I bought this series on a whim, and I am glad I own it. After the second episode, I was hooked. The show is intelligent, well written, and all the characters have more than two dimensions. The actors play off each other well, and the stories have a good mix of drama and light moments. When the powers that be decided to release the remaining seasons, I'll be first in line.

If you buy anything today -- buy this DVD! You will never be sorry."Traders" appeals on so many levels - drama, comedy, romance, intrigue, suspense. But how can a show about a bunch of people in banking, stock trading, investment, and finance be exciting? I don't know, but this show surely is! Whether they are at their computer monitors on the trading floor tracking the ticker or in the boardroom handling the fate of unsuspecting others or on location assessing the value of some investment, these characters are intriguing, addictive, appealing, and believable. Some are young upstarts; some are old-timers with lots of experience; some are in the "game" for the thrill; some are in it for the money. Just watch the show a few times and you get an idea of what "Doing a Marty" means. Then there's the invisible rival McGrath -- a character who never appears but always gets (or sends) the dreaded Grim Reaper fax. This show is different -- even the theme song by Lou Natale sucks you in. When I gave a co-worker a few episodes I had taped off CBC, he came back the the next day with "More!" He had watched all the episodes in a single night, unable to put the show aside. Yes, "Traders" is THAT good. The full run of this show deserves to be on DVD. It deserves extra features to explain how some of the episodes came to be written. Much of the activity came from real life. The writers used "moles" to ferret out some interesting material. Real-life traders were willing to share their scares and victories. And some of it is pretty scary! But it is doubtful the entire series will be released on DVD. Alliance Atlantis has ceased responding to requests for such a release. In the past, the company responded with a "no plans at this time" reply. Now, it doesn't even respond. If any series deserves to be released in full, it is this one. "Traders" remains my #1 favorite TV series of all time. Nothing has come close to the blend of story line and character. It actually spoiled me with regard to episodic television. "Traders" and the people responsible won many awards for their efforts. They deserved every win. And "Traders" deserves to be released on DVD.

This is an EXCELLENT series. Most, if not all of the characters have flaws which affect how they interact with each other and how they conduct business. If you ever wondered what a school of sharks in business suits would look like, this is it. You'll find yourself loving and hating them at the same time. The story line assumes the viewer has some intelligence. The fast pace keeps you on the edge of your seat. Make a few sandwhiches and a thermos of coffee before you watch the first show cause you'll have a hard time getting away from the TV after that!I've already seen all the episodes on TV a couple of times each, but still wanted to own this series on DVD. I sure hope they get around to releasing the remaining 4 seasons on DVD. I want them all!

Great Show - Well worth a look.,

I too primarily bought this because it featured David Hewlett and I expected to hit the fast-forward button quite a lot. However, I was engrossed after the first episode. The interweaving plotlines worked very well to draw me in.The mid-nineties 'edgy' hand-held camera work takes a bit of getting used to, but it is certainly worth the effort. Although this is not the kind of show I would usually watch, I'm eager to see more and hope that further seasons will be released on DVD in the near future.

Really good TV drama. Why are there not more seasons on DVD? Characters were complex. Acting was superb. So much grittier than later Canadian TV.

This is a pretty original idea for a TV series - and largely succeeds in what it sets out to do. That's to say, it's both pretty plausible and at the same time entertaining. I don't know whether stockbrokers make the kind of subject that most people find entertaining - but I certainly got my money's worth. Performances are mostly creditable, and the stories sufficiently varied so that one's interest never flags. I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is a particularly memorable series, but whilst it's on it's fun. Otherwise I might have upped the rating to 4 stars.

The Best TV Drama,

I first remembered the hype for the pilot of this show. I didn't bother to give it a look, but years later I remember watching an episode because CTV was showing a figure skating competition instead of ER. I was hooked instantly! This has to be the best show EVER on TV and I'm so proud it's Canadian. I was hooked religously from the 3rd season onwards. I'm so glad this first season DVD came out, but I'm praying... no I'm BEGGING they release the other seasons, no matter the cost!
