At Last ,a true Greatest Hits package,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Very Best Of (2CD) (Audio CD)
The Eagles have 2 previously released Greatest Hits packages. Both of those are very good, but do not include all of their best material. Songs like James Dean and Doolin Dalton are not included. This package also includes their best from "Hell freezes Over" This is the first time they all appear on one CD collection. The Eagles have always been among the best American groups and have always appealed to Pop, Rock, and Country Music fans. This CD includes every song that I would want in a Very Best of Collection.....This was long over due.........enjoy

The Perfect Place To Get Into Eagles Music,
By
This review is from: The Very Best Of (2CD) (Audio CD)
The Eagles were one of the most successful bands during the 1970's, they have the best selling album in the U.S. with Their Greatest Hits 1971-75 and is one the most successful American recording artists. Their songs are now considered classics and have left a stamp in music with their distinct and unique California Country-Rock style. Released in 2003 Eagles: The Very Best Of is just that the best of a classic and talented American band with 2 CDs of 33 songs that represents the best of the band. It's not the first Eagles compilation or the most successful but it's by far the most complete one and it offers more of the band for your money. What I feel are the essentials are all here, there is not much to complain and what needed to be included has been included. Everything that was on two of the band's best-of album Their Greatest Hits 1971-75 and Eagles Greatest Hits, Vol 2 is included with some more added. I won't go in details but "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", "One of These Nights", "Hotel California", "New Kid In Town", "Heartache Tonight", "I Can't Tell You Why", "The Long Run" and other are all great Eagles songs and the songs that are here deserve to be. We even get 1 song from the 1980 live album Eagles Live (Those Shows) and 2 songs from Hell Freezes Over the band's 1994 live album ( "Love Will Keep Us Alive" and "Get Over It") which are nice additions. Also included is the 2003 single "Hole In The World" influenced by the events of September 11. There's a good number of selections from each of the band's 70's albums so the listeners gets a solid overview of the band's career. The tracks are all in order of album releases which while not essential and not always characteristic of a compilation is a good thing. I particularly love the big 46 page booklet that comes with this collection. There are no liner notes but we get some nice photos and comments on each of these tracks by Don Henley and Glenn Frey on how these songs came about and the events surrounding the recording process. Maybe it's not something that those buying this greatest hits package will think is special but being a fan I think it's very cool that they took time to make a heavy booklet and include those comments and photos, it makes The Very Best Of feel special. The Very Best Of is what it claims to be which is truly the best of The Eagles. It has the band's hits, the obvious picks and then some more. The band's studio albums are excellent and contain some great music that did not find its way here, however if you don't want to get all of the original albums this collection may be the best possible alternative. I don't usually go for "hits" collections but this one is exception to the rule and it may very well be all the Eagles you'll ever need. There's nothing here for a die-hard fan except the single but for those seeking a little more than the 10 songs Greatest Hits. 5/5.

Another Great Compilation From The Eagles,
By
This review is from: The Very Best Of (2CD) (Audio CD)
The Eagles began their mainstream career run in 1972. From there until their break-up in 1982, they continued releasing great albums and great singles for listeners to enjoy, including their most successful "Hotel California". Their success never stopped. Some may be surprised knowing that they lost the Grammy for Best New Artist of 1972 to America. However, the legendary music continues living more intensely. "The Very Best of The Eagles" is a great compilation album that presents fans new and old their successes. The variety of musical genres proves that The Eagles mastered music fluently: rock, pop, and country. Regardless which is accented most, the songs were always written beautifully. They speak to a variety of listeners. Every song has its own unique flavor that keeps listeners in joy. The song quality remains through the switching of lead singers. Their ballads remain beautiful, and their upbeat songs remain fun for dancing. This album compilation presents how they evolved as a band through their historical run, even through the occassional line-up change. The evolution proves to continue through two reunions: 1994 and 2003. Through these greatest hits, they recorded a new single specially for this album, the Grammy-nominated "Hole In the World". This is a great commemoration of the events in 9/11. It was written and performed beautifully. Don Henley sings the lyrics expressively. "The Very Best of The Eagles" is a great album that will surely please many listeners. This is one of the few albums that contains all of The Eagles's greatest hits.

Excellent Eagles overview,

In October of 2003, The Eagles became the latest addition of great bands from the 1970s to get their own 2 - disc best of collection entitled The Very Best of The Eagles. The Eagles' set comes in the wake of other rock acts' 2-disc best ofs like Pink Floyd(Echoes), Queen(The Platinum Collection 3 discs), The Rolling Stones(40 Licks), Black Sabbath(Symptom of the Universe) and The Who(The Ultimate Collection) as examples. Disc 1 of this Eagles best of covers the cream of the crop of their early years from 1971-75 with one from 1976. The whole Greatest Hits Vol. 1 disc is on disc one with classics like Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Tequila Sunrise, Desperado, Already Gone, Best Of My Love, One Of These Nights, Lyin' Eyes and Take It To The Limit. Also two songs from the second volume close this disc After the Thrill is Gone and Hotel California. There are also great forgotten gems on disc one like On the Border, Ol' 55 among others. Disc 2 picks up with more from hits. First, there's the hard rocking Top 15 hit Life In The Fast Lane, the Top 30 Seven Bridges Road, Victim of Love(a hard rocking album cut), the Top 10 hits I Can't Tell You Why and The Long Run, and the #1's Heartache Tonight and New Kid in Town. Then there are some more album tracks like Wasted Time, The Last Resort and In the City among others. Also, this collection features the album debut of the band's 1978 Christmas hit Please Come Home for Christmas. In 1994, the band reunited and scored two more hits, the pretty Love Will Keep Us Alive and the hard rocker Get Over It. Finally, the collection ends with the new ballad the stirring Hole In The World. The song is great and is one of the major reasons why I bought this album. When this best of came out, it peaked at #3 and two million immediately showing that The Eagles are still popular, even today. If you want both greatest hits albums, buy this because it is a) cheaper b) extra songs not on the two hits albums and c) the sound is incredible. Highly recommended!

Brilliant Career Overview,

This review is from: The Very Best Of (2CD) (Audio CD)
One of the most succesful acts of the 1970s', The Eagles are the latest in aline of superstars from the same era to get their own 2 - disc greatest hits set, following Elton John and Fletwood Mac. And I think theirs is the best. Disc 1 features all of their big hits. You can do no wrong with a disc that contains "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", "Best Of My Love", "One Of These Nights", "Lyin' Eyes" and "Take It To The Limit". What sets this album apart from the other greatest hits albums I mentiond is that doesn't rely solely on hits singles. There are some excellent low - charting singles here: "Peaceful Easy Feeling", "Tequila Sunrise", "Already Gone", "James Dean". In addition, there are some classic album tracks, like "Desperado, "Ol' 55", and the transcendent "Doolin- Dalton". And while other reviewers complain about the fact that "Hotel California" closes this disc, I think it's a great way to close it, since it leaves the fans craving for more. Disc 2 begins with 5 more songs from the "Hotel California" album. First, there's the havy - hittinghard rock top 15 hit "Life In The Fast Lane". Then comes the pretty "Wasted Time", the punk rocker "Victim Of Love", and Don Henley's haunting American - Indian opus "The Last Resort". Finally, there's the album's other number 1 single "New Kid In Town". This has always been one of my faorite. I love the message this song conveys: enjoy your time at the top, because gonna come and knock you right off. Their Christmas hit "Please Come Home For Christmas" is an expertise yuletide number sing with great, bluesy gusto by Don Henley. "Heartache Tonight" is a nice romp that was their last number 1 hit. It makes for a great singalong. "The Sad Cafe" is a majestic ballad. "I Can't Tell You Why" and "The Long Run" are my two favorite Eagles songs. Timothy B. Schmidt's vocals on this one send shivers down my spine. And the song itself sounds like a Motown number. "The Long Run" glides along a carfree melody and Mephis - style horn vamps. "In The City" and "Thos Shoes' are also really good. "Sven Bridges Road" is a great live number with nice a capella breaks. In 1994, The eagles got back together and scored two top 40 hits, the pretty "Love Will Keep Us Alive" and the hard rocker "Get Over It". Finally, there's the stirring "Hole In The World". While I'm probably gonn catch a lotta flack for this, I think this is such a great song. I suggest this cd. It is filled with timeless music that you will play for hours on end. Alao pick up "Desperado" and "Hotel California", their 2 masterpieces.
