Awesome album to say the least. Todd is the best singer in Rock & Roll today. He's right up there with Layne Staley as far as my favorites of all time. I went to see the Burden Brothers two nights ago, and they were great on stage. They started the show off with a punch in the nose and never let up through the end of the set. Luckily, only a few idiots insisted...

3.0 out of 5 stars Well its...
Kinda good and kinda bad.

First the good. This album brings some bang with a bluesy sound, some cool guitar riffs, and an above average garage/blues/rock musicianship. It is simple and great music for a new guitarist or easy listenin while having a bar B que.

The bad. The singer repeats himself way to often, it gets annoying.

4.0 out of 5 stars What can I say?, Jun 19 2004

I'm all about it! Thats what. Hopefully people will realize that this is NOT the Toadies (although I LOVE the Toadies!) and just allow this band to be itself. Its like people now with A Perfect Circle and Billy Corgan's new band Zwan. People just keep harrassing and comparing these bands to the lead singer's former groups! They're not in those groups anymore, go away! Like-wise, Todd Lewis(or now Vaden Lewis as he's going by these days) is not in the Toadies anymore. Let it go!

That being said, this is good solid alternative rock! Quite a few songs on this album kick A$$, to include 'You're So G.D. Beautiful', 'Walk Away', 'Conditional' (my favorite on the album, and 'Beautiful Night'. I say its a pretty solid first full-length album and definately recommend it. If you don't like it, then you're just a retarded loser and I hope you die in a horrible car-crash and one of your family members gets paralyzed for life!

Have a nice day!

Pop this CD in your player and you wont be dissapointed. The higher paced tracks in 1-4 truly are great. Shadow is a gem that thankfully most radio stations haven't touched.

The only beef I have with this CD is the slower songs just dont seem to fit well with the rest of the CD your fault can be the exception. The band opted to put in a slightly slower version of beautiful night which takes away some of the power the CD offers to fans IMO (esp for me a big toadies fan).

For Toadies fans this CD will definately be worth the 10 bucks. Most of the tracks resonate an old toadies feel.

Luckily, only a few idiots insisted on yelling for Toadies tunes. I love the Toadies too, but the music of the BBs is just as exciting as the Toadies if not more so. Get this album now. You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, But..., Mar 6 2004

This is a great album, but the version of Beautiful Night found on their EP is a lot better. Todd over-emotes like Celine Dion on this version. All the other songs are real good and have excellent production values. Why they had to over-produce what was already a perfect song is beyond me...

Hey, I understand if the music is not for you -- but you're missing the point. The lyrics of "Come On Down" are supposed to be simple and direct... combined with the forceful delivery, and the guitar and drums, the lyrics are like a punch in the face -- a poetic expression of forceful emotion. this isn't shoegazing twee or disdainful post-punk. this album is knowingly simple and direct, with unashamed references to southern rock and G'nR. but even in the super cheesy, If You're Going To Heaven, Lewis delivers some sublime moments. i miss the Toadies' darkness and Pixies-punk influences... but this is a great rock record -- a cross between the Toadies and G'nR.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good Lord, this is bad., Feb 11 2004

I certainly realize that different people have different tastes, but this CD is really, really bad. The sound of the band is quite outdated and the lyrics are so simple its almost offensive. ('Come on down, I want to meet you, I want to meet you, I want to meet you, ALLLLLL!'..blech) The only song I could listen to all the way through was "Beautiful Night" and even that one had the early 90s yelling part which almost ruined it for me. But if you enjoy totally thoughtless lyrics and singers yelling over simple loud music, this cd is for you.

I absolutely love this album, and this band. They are the best live act I've ever physically witnessed, and many others would agree. They are quite possibly the best example of what "Texas Rock" should sound like. With angelic vocals, Vaden Todd Lewis rocks the mic, and never lets you down. Every show is worth the time and money, and a few loyals actually travel great lengths to catch as many shows as possible, me being one of them. BUY THIS ALBUM! SEE A SHOW! Until you do, all this talking of mine will make absolutely no sense.

4.0 out of 5 stars Return of the Texas Rock King, Jan 24 2004

Ok, I've always loved The Toadies, and I followed them forever, esp. since im from Fort Worth/Dallas, TX, and they've always rocked my pants off. When The Toadies broke up, i couldnt help but cry since they were one of my favorite bands ever. Thats why when i heard about the burden brothers i jumped at the oppertunity to see them and later to buy this cd. its TOTALLY BITCHIN, although a bit on the lighter side. The Toadies have always been a bit dark and heavy, so its kind of refreshing to hear the Burden Brothers. Buried In Your Black Heart is loaded with plenty of great melodies and rockin vocals. Just as Hell Below/Stars Above was a step above Rubberneck in the upbeat style of writing, Buried In Your Black Heart is a step above Hell Below. Any fan of The Toadies will love this cd, and I suggest you go out and purchace it as soon as humanly possible. Although the Toadies "Rubberneck" album will always be my favorite, Buried In Your Black Heart is awsome, and a must have for any Rock lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars RAAAWK!, Dec 19 2003

Folks not familiar with Toadies should definitely check out the Burden Brothers....powerful band, excellent songwriting, and killer vocals. Any fan of the Toadies will love Todd Lewis' vocals on this album. I felt wrapped in a warm blankie of familiarity. The songs are more up-tempo and a little less heavy than Toadies tunes, but all are new favorites.
