Amazing...,

This review is from: Wicked (Audio CD)
There are honestly no words to describe this recording. Ever since I first saw Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth perform "Defying Gravity" at the 2004 Tonys, I've been an absolute Wicked fanatic. No, I haven't seen the show (though I hope to before all of the original cast leaves), but I don't need to in order to love this recording. It's very easy to follow the story, even if you've never heard of the musical, and so many of the songs speak to so many different people. Yes, they're about the citizens of Oz, but the character's feelings and problems are universal. All in all, an amazing CD-buy 2, in case one of them gets scratched (you want these songs to be perfect)!

Firs off, it is important to state that I am not, generally speaking, a fan of muiscal theatre. Indeed I would go so far as to say that, for the most part, I activley dislike it. That said, I adored Wicked. I have seen it live twice now, hope to see it at least once more while it plays here in Toronto, and simply cannot get the songs (well, most of them anyway) out of my head. There are two things that stop me rating this a five. First, that it is the original Broadway cast rather than the current touring company as I believe the latter to be superior. Shoshana Bean (Elphaba) and Megan Hilty (Galinda), both of whom have also played their respective roles on Broadway, are heartstoppingly talented and bring more playfullness, vulnerability and humanity to their roles. Second, and more importantly, the music itself is not uniformly good. The Wizard's numbers, for example, can easily be skipped and there are a few missteps in general - the dolorous moans that each woman must intone at the end of Not That Girl leap immediately to mind. Overall, though, this is a damned-good soundtrack to a wicked-good show.

This Is Truly Wicked!,

I love this soundtrack! It is amazing quality and Kristin and Idina sound amazing!! The only downfall to this soundtrack is that it is missing a song from the show. "The Wicked Witch of the East" song is missing. I wish it had all of the songs!

Well, the songs are GREAT!!! they sing well, I love how this entire musical can be related to so many people and its positive message. I love" popular", it is funny, and great duet! I think it would be great if you listen to the musical first before buying CD so you can understand better. I love this show!!!

I saw Wicked in Toronto, sadly I didn't get to see the originals on broadway, but Stephanie Block and Kendra Kassebaum (as Elphaba and Glinda respectively) were perfect. It was fantastic and I can't wait to see it again. There are no words to describe how much I love this CD. It is perfect to belt out in the car. I hadn't heard Idina Menzel before but she shines in the role of Elphie and proves she can really sing. I mean, with some of the notes she holds, the girl has to have a third lung. Kristin Chenoweth is funny and lovable as Glinda, and the role showcases her voice perfectly. Even if you haven't seen the production my advice is to get the CD, learn all the words and GO SEE WICKED. You'll love it!!! It will never leave your discman/CD player/car. It'll make you happy. And the music will forever be stuck in your head. Which is a good thing.

You wouldn't expect a teenager to love broadway music, but Wicked has me hooked!I can't get enough of "The Wizard and I" and "Defying Gravity".Other great tunes on the cd are "Popular", "As long as you're mine","I'm not that girl", and "Popular". The vocalists are fabulous, the tunes are catchy, and its a fun cd to listen to! If you want to hear a GREAT CD, listen to Wicked!

Wicked, in my opinion, is a very fun musical. The songs are enjoyable and catchy, and Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth (as Elphaba and Glinda) are truely a unique pair. The one issue I have with this musical is the lyrics. Sometimes, they are so horrid (or cheesy, at least), that you marvel that Stephen Schwartz couldn't think of anything better. (Then again, I am not a fan of Stephen Schwartz's material: I hightly dislike Godspell.) All in all, however, Wicked is an enjoyable musical, and it's even better if you have the oppertunity of seeing it performed on Broadway (although, if you plan on seeing it, I recommend listening to the album after seeing the show).
