3.0 out of 5 stars Adopted Nightmare-Child Reforms -- "OK" Comedy
John Ritter is great as middle aged adoptive dad who takes on the challenge to give a loving home to an incouragable 7-year old who makes Dennis The Menace look like a choir boy. His already skiddish marriage to a chronically disagreeable dim-wit appears even more stressed with the arrival of "sonny boy".

His already skiddish marriage to a chronically disagreeable dim-wit appears even more stressed with the arrival of "sonny boy".

Overall this film is not thaaaaat funny, but it has a message: If you refuse to give up hope that there is good in every child, no matter how difficult it may appear to get to love him/her, then you will be pleasantly surprised. As long as there is life, there is hope, even for the most extreme of all problem children. As a 4th grade teacher, I can relate several such stories.

The Theme song to this movie, performed by The Beach Boys is well worth the price of the DVD. If you're in it just for laughs, you may want to skip this one.***

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Fun - A Treat!, Jan 4 2004

I know, I know, 5 stars???!!! To me yes, 5 stars... If it makes me laugh out loud it get's 5 stars. Why? These movies can be watched again and again without seeming stale to me. Finally, these movies are available on DVD. These movies are pure silliness, but loads of fun. Ok, it's not art, but I laughed my butt off throughout the whole movie(s). It's nice to see that Ritter will be remembered - he was a joy to watch in these two films. I would compare these movies to Dennis the Menace (Dir. by John Hughes). Special scenes to my heart are Martha Quinn (yes, the MTV VJ Martha Quinn) blind date; the food fight in the Bubble Room (in Maitland/Orlando FL -The Bubble Room closed down a few years ago, and it's nice to see it is preserved in this movie); and Lorraine Newmann (from the Not Ready for Time Prime Players aka Saturday Night Live Original Member) wedding scenes. Pure Fun -Pure joy!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Too Short, Sep 21 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Problem Child (Full Screen) (DVD)
I liked the movie, I've seen it many times. But, there is always a problem, the movie ends too quickly. The movie is only an hour and, maybe, fifteen minutes? A movie should be one hour and thirty minutes/two hours. And the begining is too long. OK, so the boy goes from house to house because nobody wants him. I get the point. Does it really have to be five/ten minutes to tell us that the boy is a troublemaker? And what ever happened to the wife, Amy Yasbeck? For fifteen/twenty minutes, she's in a suitcase! I think you should see this movie but don't get your hopes up. It's not the best John Ritter movie. :(

4.0 out of 5 stars A sad day for comedy lovers, Sep 12 2003
This review is from: Problem Child (Full Screen) (DVD)
It is a sad day for comedy lovers as we lost John Ritter. Problem Child is an entertaining movie. Both Ritter and the young child actor are brilliant in this too-short amusing tale. The only warning I could give you is consider whether or not you want to give your children this movie - it might give them ideas. Know what I mean? :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movies, Bad DVD, April 20 2004
This review is from: Problem Child Tantrum (DVD)
These are some of the funniest movies ever up with my favorites "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star" and "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" "Problem Child" and "Problem Child 2" are classics. It's the best of the great, late John Ritter. The sequel is better I think, but the first one's good. I almost cried in the first one once when Marty shoots Ben. That was sad. But it turned comic when he shot the prune. I saw the sequel first. My favorite sequences are the scene in Peabody's office, the carnival - blecch - scene. Wonderful performances by Yasbeck, Ritter, Oliver and Gottfried. These are up there. But the DVD sucked. The only feature is a trailer for each film. But when I saw two movies on one disc, I understood. Next time.

4.0 out of 5 stars classic childish comedy, Mar 31 2004
This review is from: Problem Child Tantrum (DVD)
finally here two classic laugh out loud no matter what age you are comedys.problem child 1 and 2 are a classic example of comedys that dont take themselfs too seriously and in the process make for heilirous viewing.the jokes are more hit than miss and especially in 2 push the bounderies of what you get in a pg rated movie.number 2 is still my favorite and after all these years these movies sure do stand the test of time.finally movies that live up to the fond childhood memories.plus junior is a total (jerk) and a great role model for all young kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent movie, but NO DELETED SCENES?!, Feb 9 2003

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Problem Child (Full Screen) (DVD)
This is easily one of the funniest movies I have ever seen (I admit, it's stupid, but that doesn't mean it's not funny!) It tells the story of Junior, an unloved orphan who is VERY short tempered. This makes for some of the most funny scenes ever seen in a film. When one of his temporary foster parents destroys his favorite toys, he knocks over the house. When he is mistreated at a birthday party, he does a variety of bad deeds, such as replacing the cake candles with firecrackers, replacing the candy in a pinata with pickles, throwing the presents in the pool, and a whole lot of other acts you won't stop laughing at. When on a camping trip, he tricks his foster father into giving his neighbor a concussion. When he is insulted on the baseball field, well, when someone like that has a baseball bat, you kind of know what will happen. Great movie, and damn funny. But the DVD is a bit lacking in the extras department. There is some director commentary and the scene selection option. but not much else. As many of you know who watched the edited version of the movie on the USA network, they put deleted scenes in that version to make it long enough to run. These scenes are NOWHERE TO BE FOUND ON THE DVD! (They include a hallucinatory sequence by the Bow Tie Killer before he breaks out of jail, a scene where the Healys get insulted for their cat going to the bathroom in a neighbor's bushes, a scene where Junior is drawing a picture of his neighbor being injured, a scene where Junior pilots an R/C helicopter to terrorize both the milk man and the paper boy, a scene at the circus where the Bow Tie Killer runs into a bearded lady, and there might be others.) If you have the VHS don't bother getting the DVD. If you want the deleted scenes, tape it off TV. Only get the DVD if you don't have the VHS yet, or you're replacing all of your VHS tapes with DVDs. Good movie, but keep these warnings in mind.

god lighten up folks. dont think you're destroying some kind of intellectual element of yourselves. this is so funny and is quite of the wall as it rejects a lot of the cheesy stereotypes of kids movies. i think people fail to realise this. touchdown, touchdown!!!!!
